Video: Midna's Unique Fighting Style Brings Extra Chaos to Hyrule Warriors

Posted by Thomas Whitehead

Link is the star again, sort of...

Koei Tecmo has been steadily releasing new videos of Hyrule Warriors to show the various playable characters in action, though curiously has been slow to release its Midna equivalent. It's been a slightly odd omission as the Twilight Princess star was revealed as playable a good time ago.

Yet still, we now have footage to accompany the various screenshots that show the diminutive hero in action. She rides Link (in wolf form) for many moves, while also utilising a hookshot chain and that enormous arm to destroy dozens of enemies — 10/10 for style, if nothing else.

You can check it out below — is Midna a character you're looking forward to using in Hyrule Warriors?

This looks to be turning out in an excellent game! Reminds me kind of wonderful 101 but this time you're the one fighting against other 100 enemies

This is another example of why sakurai has his head up his donkey.

Midna would have been far better in smash bros over boringtena.

The style is impressive but I'm unfamiliar with the DW series and every video looks like you just walk around annihilating stuff. Like a dumbed down Bayonetta. Even so, having many playable Zelda characters is cool, so I hold interest for the title.

@AugustusOxy Have you never played Kid Icarus Uprising? She's ANYTHING but boring. In fact, She and Pit are the ones who start many of the jokes in the game. Not to mention that she is a key character in the series. So of course she's going to represent in Smash.

@shigulicious I hear its a hack and slash/strategy hybrid and that this is being played on easy which lacks the element just for marketing reasons. I played a little bit of "Dynasty Warriors Online" before it was shut down and from my experience the enemies are really farming materials for your Musou gauge. You can skip over them if you like. IMO, they are just there in case you get bored from running from point A to point B on the map since you are going to be taking over a lot of bases.

Midna looks like the result of Bayonetta falling into a pit of Dark Ecco.

Nintendos been doing a really good job of advertising this one and getting the special editions in Japan so I hope it sells well. Mixing DW w/ Zelda has the potential for twice as many people buying it but also turning everybody off. Of course its a Wii U exclusive so Im not expecting to see it atop ant charts, just selling well.

I wish midna AND palutena were both playable characters in smash. But atleast midna is a assist trophy.

@AugustusOxy Are you kidding me right now? Everyone was thrilled when she was announced. And she is definitely NOT boring. Obviously you haven't played Kid Icarus: Uprising or you would have known that.

TREASURE CHEST FOR EUROPE PLEASE! They really have to get this out over here...

Well, this makes me wonder why Link had to do most of the fighting in Twilight Princess... Ah well I want to play as Midna most of all!

The wolf (or wolves) Midna is riding in this game is (or are) not Link. It is (or they are) just a Twilit Wolf (or Wolves) that happen to look very similar to Link's wolf form. After all, how the heck would Link and Midna battle on the same field if she were riding him all this time? Additionally, the wolf (or wolves) seem to perform certain feats that even the Wolf Link could not do.

@AugustusOxy I'm expecting an official NintendoLife edit inbound for that 1st line of your statement. Pretty sure they won't let that stand. Let's see how long it takes them... the suspense...

@AugustusOxy I feel the same way about Midna. All i see is just waste of a character slot that could have been used on a character from a different game other than the over hyped twilight princess.

I don't get the infatuation with this game. Looks like a repetitive button masher where you take on giant hordes of enemies over and over and over with no variation in gameplay whatsoever.

Ah Midna, quite possibly Link's best companion.....ah screw it, she IS his best companion. Link will never have another one as compelling as her.

Definitely looking forward to using her in Hyrule Warriors. Now if only she could be added to SSBU/3DS.
