Grezzo should be a name familiar to plenty of Nintendo gamers — the Japanese developer had an important role in the Mii Plaza offering on 3DS, but is best known for producing the rather enjoyable The Legend of Zelda: Four Sword Anniversary Edition on DSiWare and the outstanding The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. It's the development of the latter that has fuelled repeated, and to date unsatisfied, rumours of a 3D remake for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
To add some additional spice to the rumours that will never end — until they're confirmed, we assume — Grezzo currently has a job listing seeking a new Programmer and Planner. The rather attractive gold text at the top refers, translated, to an opportunity to create a 'Legend'; it should be noted that the main text does highlight the studio's history of creating both original games and remakes.
That history of Nintendo portable projects — Grezzo was also behind the Japan-only WiiWare title Line Attack Heroes — and two Zelda projects remakes cause a tingle of excitement. Even if the gold text and reference to a legend is merely Grezzo's human resources team having fun, however, it's pleasing to see the company recruiting and, hopefully, working on a project for Nintendo.
But yes, some in our team hope it's Majora's Mask 3D, too.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for the heads up.

This is just getting cruel at this point.
2015 will be the year, folks.
Stop it! Stop everyone, this is driving me crazy! DX Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda, just announce a remake already and stop playing with my emotions!!!
Sorry, I'm fine.
There WILL be a Majora's Mask remake at one point. With all the 'hints' Nintendo has been dropping lately and the request for this remake steadily increasing (by what it looks like), you just KNOW this remake WILL happen. The questions is, when? It is certainly very likely that this job listing IS for MM3D.
More Streetpass games pls
@Warruz I know.
I'm guessing it's a new Streetpass RPG or hopefully a Majora's Mask remake.
You know what they say: "Guess we'll have to make our own!"
I know I'm being greedy, but... wouldn't it be awesome if it the remake was for the Wii U instead of the 3DS? I think so at least. It's not gonna happen, but the thought of going back to a remade, HD Termina in a big-ass screen gives me the chills.
Perhaps it's a new IP based on Zelda? Let's not jump to conclusions too soon.
A "tingle" of excitement? Really? I can't be the only one who caught that.
Probably next year there'll be a remake like how last year got Wind Waker HD (a remake) and A Link Between Worlds (new).
So next year we'll get Majora's Mask 3D (a remake) and Zelda U (new)
And in 2011 we got Ocarina of Time 3D (remake) and Skyward Sword (new)
If it's not Majora's Mask 3D (I hope it is), it'd be great if it were a new exciting ip.
@Splatom OMG could you imagine a streetpass game that involved collecting masks and that was what this project was? The internet would explode!
I hope it's not Majora's Mask 3D, as that remake should be well and ready to go by now. Just them waiting to give a release date. I hope this means, however, that Nintendo are further expanding their LoZ development teams, and that Grezzo will officially be part of creating a brand new Zelda game, one for a handheld system, I can imagine.
I could care less for MM3D. Only reason I want it is so people can stop begging for it. Then again, we will probably have 'Where's Twilight Princess 3D/HD' in a couple of years. Oh Remake Cycle, how I hate you.
I would prefer Grezzo to work on a new Zelda for 3DS, not a remake or a sequel IMO.
@LtAldoRaine It could happen, right? I wouldn't expect it to be released ONLY on Wii U, but it seems possible they might release it on both systems. They did it with MH3, right? I don't have the technical know-how to understand how easy or difficult it is to do something like that, but it wouldn't be the first game to be on both. I'll take what I can get, but I would much prefer to play it on the big screen also!
@DakotaM47 Won't be long til we get Diamond & Pearl remake demands.
@MrWalkieTalkie Hahaha.
2020: Where's my X and Y remakes? You skipped BW! Gimme those!
I personally hope it happens as I never got round to playing it the first time round. I'm pretty sure this'll happen at some point in 2015
@dinosauryoshi This is exactly where I am at.
Since E3 I've been checking this site every 10 minutes. It's practically become my homepage
It could just be for Zelda U development.
Could it be the fact that the Majora's Mask Moon is in Hyrule Warriors is a nod to a remake?
They should have started the remake WAY earlier.
@WinterWarm Yeah, that combined with:
Just announce it already and stop teasing us!
Let's not make assumptions now...
Then what after F-Zero?
Huh, why do I ask "After F-Zero?"
Because once they do a remake of your precious Majora's Mask and then make your F-Zero....what will you demand Nintendo retread while largely ignoring new IPs, the great games of recent generations, and third party offerings?
You'll turn up your noses at The Wonderful 101, Xenoblade Chronicles, Sin and Punishment, ExciteBots, Rune Factory, and other amazing new games...but beg for remakes and rehashes?
@Genesaur
So The Legend of Tingle confirmed?
Anyway, that "tingle" is just Thomas' work, not Grezzo's, so I hardly see it as a hint. And those "hints" dropped are quickly becoming "Half Life 3 confirmed" by now.
omg...I'm sick of the teasing...
Mother 3 never made it to the west, Half Life 3 is still unconfirmed. Majora's Mask ''3''D is still... wait 3... even Pikmin 3 took almost decade to show up... It's the 3-curse...
@Action51 I bought all but one of those games you listed and would still like this remake. We can have both. There's nothing stopping them from doing both new games and a remake.
@Action51
Fans take it too seriously, and the internet is never satisfied...
@Action51 Ocarina of Time HD of course, Mario 64 HD, Pokémon Fire Red 2? It's going to start all over again, and again after that of course, until we end up with ''New Ocarina of Time 3D HD Revisited Remake Deluxe''.
Yes, please. I've been waiting for Majora's Mask 3DS since I played OoT 3DS!
@sinalefa Man, c'mon. I didn't mean to imply that it was an official hint. I just meant that it was probably an intentionally playful move on Whitehead's part.
@Tsurii897 S'all good. I knew I couldn't be alone on that.
Ok...sorry but im just going to call it now…Zelda U will be DELAYED to 2016 but in an effort to help fans wait patiently Nintendo will release Majora's Mask 3D for the 3DS in 2015…
Personally i dont mind waiting because I want all my Zelda games given the Miyamoto thumbs up no matter how long it takes but MM on the 3DS would make my wait a whole lot better!!!
@Octane - Don't forget Mario Galaxy 1+2 HD collection, Donkey Kong Country 2 remake...whatever the most popularly nostalgia Kirby game of the moment is...
@CaviarMeths - You are the exception. Actually I wouldn't really care and it wouldn't bother me if they do make ANOTHER remake/HD port...but so many Nintendo fans just want to play the same few games over and over while they ignore the great new games and lesser known franchises. We would get more third party support if people tried these games!
How about anyone here try Sakura Wars? The Last Story? Okami?
These games rotted on store shelves and bargain bins while this particular group of Nintendo fans bought New Super Mario Bros, whatever Kirby turd was out, and begged for remakes of old Zelda and Starfox games.
@Genesaur
Sorry if I offended you, I did not mean it that way.
Is that with this MM remake eager fans, anything will be used as a "proof" that the remake is coming, even something as innocent as using the word "tingle".
im really hoping that this is a sign of majoras mask being remade o:
@sinalefa - You are correct!
I think more people cared about Zelda Williams holding her Majora's Mask because it was a 'sign' of a possible remake then they cared about her overall support of Nintendo at E3...lol
Personally, I thought she looked great! I only wish her dad would have shown up, since I love several of his films.
"The Legend of Goomy" perhaps?
Not all remake demands are equal.
It's reasonable to remake a game when it's hard to play satisfactorily with current hardware and there's substantial demand. Both of which apply to MM.
The Wii VC version is off-putting to look at. The framerate is awful! And it has to be played in Wii mode which is unfortunate.
For these reasons it's totally valid to ask for a polished and well-running version on the portable console.
Early 3D games in general have not aged well. I hope Mario 64 will get an HD makeover.
Demanding HD re-releases of Wii games on the other hand is quite unnecessary.
Nintendo knows that we want Majora's Mask. We have had OoT3D in 2011, WWHD and LBW last year, Hyrule Warriors this year, LoZU possibly in 2016, so we have to give MM3D just space to shine in. Late 2015 may be fine, but 2016 or 2017 would be perfect. In my head, 2017 is the last year for the 3DS, so MM3D may be perfect to end off LoZ for this generation.
Majoras mask is the Final Fantasy 7 of LoZ both are highly overrated
I would be very happy with a remake of Majoras Mask as long as they make it a lot easier to save your game. I didn't like having to start over a dungeon if I didn't finish it within the 3 days given.
To those who are super opinionated and can't enjoy Majora's Mask: Please, leave the majority of us who do in peace. You come in saying you don't like it or you can't enjoy it. So why tell us? What are we supposed with your comments, scrap book them? when you're not interested in something, guess what the mature thing to do is? Ignore it. Why do you feel entitled to spread your negativity in a place it doesn't need to be? Is your sense of entitlement that big? All I ask is that you either say something that's relevant and reasonable, or don't say anything at all. You don't want a Majora's Mask remake so you would rather (quite selfishly I might add) keep those who do from enjoying the possibility of it happening? That's rather rude and inconsiderate.
@siconlol MM isn't overrated, though. The only reason FF7 is overrated is because it's still, to this day, the best selling FF game. The most popular one...
For me this is really cruel now! . . . just announce a MM remake . . . MM:3D or MM:HD . . . dosen't matter to me I would buy the game if it came to the N64 with an additional cartridg to help the system produce HD-grafics . . . but I need this remake in my life!! . . .
ok to stop the drama . . . MM3D/HD has to happen!
I don't know people, this looks a LOT like Super Mario 128 to me...something that the fans are BEGGING for? Something that just looks like it should happen but dosen't...? Something that Nintendo keeps teasing us? HMMM...
Nintendo and Grezzo keep sadistically toying with our emotions! Majora's Mask keeps popping up in games, and it's driving me insane!
Hoping for a entirely new Zelda in a 3d world. Save MM for the next handheld.
FLOWER TOWN LEGENDS CONFIRMED
You can very clearly see that Chef Aonuma has a Makora's Mask Pie in the oven, but he keeps telling you it only might be the Majora's Mask Pie. Chef Aonuma teases you about how much you'd LOVE his MM Pie, but he isn't cooking it. You know he's full of crap and now all you want is a slice of damn pie.
My point? Shut up Aonuma. We know about MM, just confirm it and quit teasing us because it's crossed the line and now it's annoying.
It's gotta be Majora's Mask 3D! It simply has to be! Squeeeeeeee!
@Action51
Rune Factory has actually been doing better each installment, so I don't think Nintendo fans are ignoring it. Part of the world also didn't actually get the latest one either.
Your point still stands though and I agree with it, including Mr William's movies. Most Nintendo fans aren't actually much better than anyone else buying sequels, remakes, and "rehashes". I can't help but wonder how many people will actually go out and buy Bayonetta 2, sure people like to tote it around as an exclusive, but so too was Wonderful 101.
great... another thing where people are going to claim a MM remake is on the way just to get all ticked off at Nintendo later when they don't announce it...
Was hoping it was already in progress. TwT
At this point, I think it's just a Major effort to Mask what they're really up to.
@Zombie_Barioth I only know I bought W101 w/in the 1st month it was out. I also know I will get Bayonetta 2 w/in the first month as well.
@sinalefa I certainly wouldn't say that "offended" is the proper word. You're good, dude.
Sooooo let's see.
2011- Ocarina of Time 3D & Skyward Sword
2012-nun
2013- Wind Waker HD & A Link Between Worlds
2014- nun
2015- Majoras Mask 3D & Zelda U
Well it's obvious that this means one of three things. They are planning on a remake of Link to the Past with the LoZ:OOT3D engine, a re-imagining of four swords with the same engine and 4 player co-op, or a true successor to OOT that tells the tale of the Hero of Time after Majoras Mask.
Majoras Mask 3D will be developed by Sanzaru Games. /end hopeful thinking.
@Goginho
I hope it's not Majora's Mask 3D, as that remake should be well and ready to go by now.
This.
Or at least in progress.
@Zodiak13
Thats why I said most fans. Its become a pattern though, the fanbase hypes up all these (usually) under-rated gems but they don't sell that well. Rune Factory and Monster Hunter seem to be the exception.
It could be too that these games are too niche for the hype to really matter, but even "bad" Nintendo games like Star Fox Adventures beat them so something just doesn't add up.
Hmmm...this doesn't mean the game is not in development now. The game could very well be progressing nicely.
They are making the Legend of Zelda: The CDi Trilogy for 3DS and Wii U. Duh.
Soo... Legend of Groose 3D?
@BlatantlyHeroic spot on!
@Action51 Am I the only greedy guy who wants remakes/reboots AND new ip's?
If it is a Majora's Mask remake, would it take that long to develop? I thought OOT3D only took 6 months, and they must have a lot of the framework for a conversion in place from that game.
Yeah, I guess they will do a Majora's mask 3D eventually. But I hope they go a bit further then: Adding Oot 3D engine, Hero mode, done! I hope for extra stuff (dungeons, side-quests, etc), but I don't think they will add that!
What would be better is a new Zelda though! Maybe a Majora's mask sequel? It may be even topdown, as long as it is good!
My take-aways from this:
1.) If the job listing really does refer to Majora's Mask 3D, they haven't even started development and we're likely 18 months or more from release.
2.) It probably isn't for Majora's Mask 3D.
Nintendo has gotten a lot better at listening to fans, but I don't think this is coming any time soon, if ever. We do enough remakes nobody asked for, like Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, though.
I hope they change the save system in the game. Maybe like ocarina of time. I hate those stupid saving statues.
Too much
@Knux Next year is Majora's 15th anniversary, so...
@DakotaM47 There's a good reason for the remake cycle. Some gamers have never played the originals such as with WW. I've never played the original windwaker since I was 1 year old when it came out. and by the time I got interested in video games, it was a pretty old game. But when Wind Waker HD came out I had the chance to experience the whole game with some neat add ons. But I can also see your side of it if you have already played the game. MM was another zelda game I haven't played because I'm very sure they will make the remake. I just hope its soon.
@DakotaM47 Well, I hope they DO remake Majora's Mask. I wasn't even a year old when it came out! I NEED to play it. .-.
@noctowl please change that avatar pic so I'll never have to see that ugly noctowl's face ever again
I got tired of waiting on Nintendo to remake Majora's Mask and started my game file up over the weekend. I'm at the 4th Guardian and once this last dungeon is done, the final battle will begin.
MM is my favorite Zelda. Clock Town is amazing. My neighbor actually wants a sequel to Majora's Mask done for the Wii U....in HD.......Clock City ftw!!!! lol
Majora's Mask 3D.
I loved it very much when I got it from Club Nintendo. I would buy it again in a heartbeat for the 3DS.
Wonder if they'd make a Majora's Master Quest...
I sense it...Next Nintendo Direct..I feel it..
@Genesaur nope you're not "spins around throwing confetti"
A Streetpasss game (could be Find Mii Zelda version) where Link slashes enemies and collect Majora's masks and those masks are wearable by you mii...
Yus!!
A 3D or HD remake for MM would be cool but a sequel would be fantastic!
Keep in mind folks, this is not the final generation of video games. 3DS is not the end of the road. Nintendo's gonna need some classics to remake next generation too. What happens when they remake BOTH Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for 3DS, along with the re-imagining of Link to the Past on top of it, NOT TO MENTION the remake of Windwaker on Wii U? What's left for their next batch of hardware? It'll have all been cashed out from 8th gen remakes.
Be patient people. We can't get every single classic remade in one generation. If they do they do, but I wouldn't get in a fuss about it.
@Action51 Well not everyone ignores the new ips or hidden gems. However people go with what they know...even as they lament doing so. Still MM was a really good game and with the OoT remake a precedent was set. I do agree that the lopsided support of new IPs is annoying but when you think about it there is a reason why that is the bread and butter of many of the third party devs. I don't think most people realize how few sequels Nintendo has put out in 30 or so years compared to devs like EA or Ubisoft.
While I didn't ask for WWHD I'm very grateful for it since when the original came out I was young enough to be a graphics snob (read: young idiot) and didn't properly support it when it came out (got it used later but I made sure I got HD day one).
I will say I loved okami so much I bought it on three systems (ps2, wii and ps3), still working on finishing sakura wars and last story though.
My question is where are the fighting game fans? Am I the only person that wants another Tatsunoko vs Capcom?
At this point I'm just assuming Nintendo have been deliberately teasing it for the sake of gauging the potential response. I hope they get the picture. We want!
It's a guaranteed million+ seller with something that you've already got an engine + 1/3 of the resources for.
