This is another one of those days where we're getting a handful of Nintendo news without a Direct.

This is also the first time where you'll be able to transfer the Pokemon you caught from the original version of a game to its remake version (not directly, it will take multiple transfers from gen to gen).

Oh my gosh! Gen 3 was my entrance into the Pokemon world (outside of the anime).

Sounds like its not a straight remake of Ruby and Sapphire, maybe they'll redesign the Hoenn region to not have so much surfing which will be greatly appreciated. Bit unusual that we basically know nothing at the moment, since main series Pokemon games have a big first reveal most of the time, guess we'll have to wait until E3. (Maybe they just threw this trailer together to try and draw attention away to the poor financial annoucements)

I'll be pre-ordering Omega Ruby as soon as the Amazon page for it comes up.

I'm a little disappointed all we got was the name and box art really, but I still feel the need to dance crazily in a blur of emotions consisting of happiness, joy, confusion, and excitement.

Finally my favorite gen is being remade getting Pokémon Alpha Sapphire just because I love Kyogre.

In honesty though, I'm so happy about this. I remember seeing the Hoenn references as early as 2010, after HG SS. Hoenn is my favorite Pokémon game, and this is coming from someone who's been playing since Red and Blue.

Gotta love Nintendo's last minute reveals, I get much more hyped when games come out of no where and soon to be released .

Who knew so many people were looking forward to a remake? All we know is that the Hoenn region is getting a new makeover on 3DS right now, so I'm not really excited for it right now, but will keep a close ete on it. Lets hope it'll be the first oppertunuty we get at using that hassle free Pokemon transfering from Pokemon Bank, the guys at GameFreak were hoping it would last for generations to come, making transfering as easy as possible.

Well my kids keepng asking for red and green, hopefully this will make them happy. I think they played sapphire so maybe they can get the updated ruby now.

Maybe they'll pay the $5 for the bank now, they tried the demo but didn't see the point in paying. I dont think they ever have enough Pokemon in any game to need the extra space.

And I dont think they waited until E3 b/c last year X and Y announced in Jan or Feb w/ an Oct release, Pokemon people* know how to take a year to build up excitement. Expect to hear more about this on an almost weekly basis.

*I know Nintendo owns this, but only Pokmeon get big month long build ups w/ dates. SSB gets lots of build up w/o a date, and MK8 only got dated recently. They are doing a good job w/ MK8 now though.

Oh, and bonus points for the "alpha and omega" names.

Well, I have to buy a 3DS now, at least if it lives up to the original third generation..

@Tsurii897 The original designs for Kyogre and Groudon looked better. It has nothing to do with the gen 1 argument as they are not gen 1 anyways.

@Technosphile @DanteSolablood I'd be careful about talks of losses (unless they declared bankruptcy). Financial reporting is one of the easiest ways to manipulate results due to the amount of flexibility in treatments based on company policies and no clear guidelines for certain items. Not to mention, the numbers always have a good portion that lie in the realm of historical costs/estimates (like depreciation). Accounting is also not very consistent either. Some things like research/development costs need to be expensed immediately (except for VERY strict guildelines). Possible future losses also need to be expensed immediately though future gains are not allowed to be recognized at all.

Reading statements alone is NEVER enough information to get an idea of how a company is doing. You need the notes to the statements as well and the written report. However, most of these so-called "news" sites do not mention these aspects and prefer to spew propaganda for hits.

@DanteSolablood Sony is a huge company with money coming in (or out) from many different markets in consumer electronics. Nintendo has one business, and that business is failing. Miserably.

As bad as Sony has had it the last two years, the Playstation brand is healthy. The Nintendo brand is dying.

@Technosphile While iIt's true that Sony has money coming in from various sources as well as the Playstation brand, Sony has been hemorrhaging cash for far longer than the last two years, Kazuo Hirai took over as CEO after Sony's FOURTH annual loss... and these are all losses are despite any money coming in from Playstation brand.

Taking into consideration that the TV side of the business has not made money in at least four years, they've exited the PC market leading to a massive drop in share price & loss of 5000 jobs and Sony hold little share in the phone market, it seems one bad year for the PS4 could wipe Sony out.

Oh man...Ruby was the first game I ever played! When I saw the article, the part of my brain reserved for hype exploded! Groudon and Kyogre look amazing, by the way. It would be hilarious to have an option to have a "fully" orchestrated soundtrack consisted of only trumpets! Looks like the Rainbow Road Hype Train flew right into Hoenn!

@Meaty-cheeky Considering that I spent hundreds of hours on Gen 3 and played all three games and enjoyed them all, but can't even push myself to finish Pokemon Black version, I'd say that that's just your opinion. It's also like to point out that no one seems to agree with you, nostalgia or not. @UGXwolf it's not just my opinion, I know many people that play Pokemon and most of them say Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire are the weakest of the series. Most of these people are Hardcore Pokemon players that I know that hangout at the Nintendo World Store in New York City were Pokemon tournaments are always going down.

@Technosphile In a way, I agree. Casual pokémon fans would be okay with a ios pokemon game. However it's suicide for their hardcore pokemon fans. Hey, I'm open to a ios pokemon game, plus a remake would make more sense as it wouldn't be a completely new experience. However I don't really like smartphone gaming in general.

Ruby had the most hours I've ever clocked in a Pokemon game. Hell, I played it till the cartridge no longer booted up. I just hope they don't ruin the charming story by making it about Pokemon's rights or something.

It isn't true, according to forbes there total losses for the last three years were $1.18 billion. Sony is projecting a $1.1 billion loss for 2014 alone. Pretty sure they've lost vast sums for several years running now. I hope both companies can turn things around but you've got to say Sony's position, though for some reason less well publicised, is more dire.

On topic, I was kind of hoping against hope that gamefreak were working an a mainline pokemon game for wiiu, this makes that even less likely; which, in turn, makes me sad. Will get one of these anyway.

Nope, gen 3 still has my favorite story out of all the Pokemon games and is ranked after gen 2 for best Pokemon games in general for me.
Gen 4 and gen 5 were pretty terrible in comparison.

@C-Olimar Indeed, a large amount of mechanics & pokémon used in competitive play actually originate in RSE. Plus let's face the facts, people always moan about not having enough to do after beating the Elite 4... RSE gave us Pokémon Contests, ribbon collecting, secret bases & data mixing. Maybe people just got complacent as RSE gave them what they wanted?

Please keep in mind I'm not a Pokémon fan when I say this but, I'm afraid Nintendo or the Pokémon Company (whomever is in charge of the video games) are going to run Pokémon to the ground like Activision is running CoD to the ground with yearly releases.

@Meaty-cheeky I can't fault you for your personal opinion, but just because the people you hang around with don't like RSE doesn't mean that everyone agrees with them. As for hardcore players, If it helps I play Pokémon competitively online, have a 100% complete Pokédex for every Gen (not including unreleased Diancie) and can't wait for the new game.. why is everyone else SO SLOW at these games?

Fresh take? Well something has to replace the Game Corner and Contests. Oh and I guess HM bloat. I assume they'll take the gen 5 and 6 idea of few HMs required overall (DPP were so bad in this respect which probably contributed to this) but if you do use HMs there are TMs and cool stuff to find.

Gen 3 had some neat ideas even if direction wise it felt a bit random at times.

Personally I probably won't bother with the game (one system so no way to trade and Pokemon bank requires NNID to download, can't get NNID as doing so means I lose download rights for eShop games not available outside of UK...plus Pokemon bank can't trade items) and will get annihilated on battle spot thanks to the overpowered move tutors it adds (classic rule of competitive anything, add stuff that becomes metagame required in the next release it generates more sales). Ah well a fun ride while it lasted.

@Dark-Link73 Pokemon has been at the very least semi-annualised from the start. I've seen timelines posted which I can't recall. I think to make them annualized you have to count oddly (specific regions that sort of thing).

Now we need a pokemon yellow version remake and Pokemon Colosseum for Wii U

I'm going to be honest.

I have no reason to be excited. As much as i love pokemon, I'm getting increasingly annoyed that each remake has VERY LITTLE expansion beyond what's expected. X and Y pissed me off quite a bit despite not being a remake. I want more adventure, hell more myths and mysteries, more quests to accomplish, and new places to discover.

@Tysamu That's understandable, not many games have given us much to do after the main "story" and beating the Elite 4, which is personally why I am excited for the RSE remakes... because they were one of the best generations for giving us more to do, the Pokémon Contests were practically a whole new & fun gym system in themselves. I agree that Gen 2 is the best, too. I just spent more time playing Gen 3, and it didn't get boring, even though I can't seem to bring myself to even try to finish Poke'mon Black. On top of that, it's not like I've lost my touch, or anything, since I didn't seem to mind beating Poke'mon X and playing around with the Friend Safari for a bit.

Also, competitive community in general can kindly shut their pie-holes. I never agree with them, in the first place because most of them take gaming way too seriously to the point that it just stops being fun. But that's an argument for another time.

The cosmetic changes of the box-art legendaries might be:
a) Just a marketing / design decision,
b) Alternate forms for Groudon and Kyogre.

Also, in Europe and Japan the boxes are red and blue. I miss the good days where the cartridges were all glittery, transparent or just colored. Perhaps the manufacturing process or the material used doesn't allow it. Perhaps they're not longer made like that just because corporate decissions / economic reasons. But it would be nice, nonetheless.

I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I had a feeling we'd be getting these at some point this gen, but I didn't think they'd be revealed so soon (I was almost positive we'd be getting no main game until 2015). Not only that, but I was hoping that they'd shake things up in these games with a more BW2 approach, and from the looks of things, that is indeed the case. This game is going to be big, I can feel it.

@Starwolf_UK The series has seen annual releases since 2009 in the West (Jp missed 2011). Before that, the prior games were released every 2,2,1,2,1* (this year Europe saw two releases in one year to catch up to NA),1,1 years-basis so the series had mostly being released annually in the West. Japan is the one that has seen the most biannual releases.

I'm not even taking into account the spin-off versions nor the console versions.

Just noticed, unlike FireRed/LeafGreen and HeartGold/SoulSilver, it appears the added parts are seperate words this time. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. TBH they've missed an opportunity to release Pokemon Alpha and Omega versions as Gen 7.

Also "Game in 2D. Some areas also playable in 2D." I am disappoint.

I just fear that the scale will be changed. X and Y areas are really small compared to past gens.

@ZenTurtle Almost all RSE pokémon including Groudon & Kyogre are available from DS games forward, while it is true that online trades can seem unfair, there are bargains to be had... for example I managed to trade a UK Geodude for a Japanese Xerneas (Japanese guys seem to go mad for English language Geodudes & traded them for tonnes pre-transporter)... and then the Xerneas for Arceus. Plus I know plenty of people online from forums who helped out on my pokédex.

As for events, I have been to a good few local events where I've been able to chat to fans who have traded with me. While I don't like any form of cheating, you're quite likely to at least get a clone.

More Pokemon?! Good for the fans i guess, I think this is a terrible idea. People say Cod, assassins creed, etc are milked, yet they dont release 2 of same game on the same day every year.

@Ichiban The difference is that CoD has released the same game every year with a couple of new maps & brushed up graphics. At least Pokémon try to innovate each year with vastly different functions and game mechanics.

Nintendo must have games out the yin-yang to be making annoucements this big so close to E3. Logic would dictate staying hush hush for 4 more weeks and then annoucing this to bolster the E3 presentation. But I guess Nintendo's just got it like that this year...

Hmm this is pretty cool Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire back in action on 3DS. This might actually give me a reason to play Pokemon again as I loved the Hoenn region. I mostly stoped playing Pokemon about 3 to 4 years ago as it was pretty much the same thing over and over again. So overall I may end up getting the Omega Ruby game.

My point is, it's getting ridiculously difficult (and expensive) to complete the pokedex. While it's good to include Groudon and Kyogre, they are but two of 729 Pokémon to catch. I've never been to a Pokémon event, but I suppose it is just personal experience...
On the subject of cheating, there is what I would call a higher form of cheating-unlocking the Pokémon events that have finished (or unreleased such as the Arceus event on platinum). I agree that cloning can be useful- Pokémon such as Eevee can be cloned if you're about to evolve it. It can be good for giving the better Pokémon to your friends.

@midnafanboy Au contraire, mon frere..I do more to support Nintendo products than probably most of the drones here. Early Wii U buyer, on my 2nd 3DS, bought all the Rusty's Real Deal Baseball minigames, bought Mario Golf World Tour AND a season pass for it a few days ago, the list goes on.

But the writing is on the wall. The PS4 (which I don't own yet) is going to completely dominate this gen, while the Wii U will continue to be a gushing wound in Nintendo's side, should they be foolish enough to continue supporting it for long. This Pokemon announcement in particular just sort of reeks of panicky desperation; does anyone really expect these to be any more than marginally different from X or Y?

Compared to X/Y, no, compared to the originals, yes. Of course people were also expecting a "Gray" version, not direct sequels so who knows. Considering fans have been asking for these remakes I don't see it as panicky on their part, but you'd be a fool to assume the timing was coincidental.

I felt X/Y focused TOO much on graphics rather than the design/movepools of the pokemon.. it seemed more like they were just testing the 3ds hardware on a pokemon game and rushed the entire development saying "meh we'll make this game bad so the next one is awesome!" not to mention only made like 69 pokemon.. since this is a hoenn remake it shouldn't have to worry about that lackluster ammount new gen pokemon.. they already have most of their animations and designs made.. so I hope they focus more on utilities and enviroment than just making everything 3d and calling it a game.. which btw x/y has very little use of the 3d feature but no body cares to get a seizure anyway.

Surprisingly completing the dex isn't that difficult.. annoying but not impossible.

I got all 720 pokemon (yes 720.. #diancie) in very little time. Not much pokebank usage either.

The only Pokémon I'm missing in my X's Pokédex are Arceus, Shaymin, Diancie and the unreleased Volcanion and Hoopa.

Mew, Jirachi and Manaphy can come from various side-games (Ranch, Channel, Ranger) with a little bit of effort in completing them, and I got Genesect, Deoxys, Meloetta, Keldeo and Victini from various events during Gen 5... and Celebi from the recent Pokébank event.

Completing everything else in the dex wasn't all that difficult with the help of the GTS and Wonder Trade. The only troublesome Pokémon were some of the Friend Safari exclusives, and Unown. Though I just headed to the ruins of Alph in HeartGold, caught an Unown of every type and uploaded the whole lot to White 2, and then to X via the bank.
Basically, what I'm saying is that if you're dedicated enough, completing the Pokédex isn't a huge issue outside of being available at the right time for events.

I'm SO looking forward to these games. Pokemon remakes always include new story points that go along with the old story (Sevii Islands in Fire Red/Leaf Green and Safari Zone and Kimono girls in Heart Gold and Soul Silver). I can't wait to find out what they added and when it occurs. I'm also itching to see if it will be in X/Y graphic style. If it is, I will probably die from the joygasm.

Thats a good point, it could be the somewhat long process for transferring Pokemon from older games is partially responsible. You have two separate games to go through to do so.

But... maybe it's the version exclusive hoenn eons who we HAVE confirmed to get their megas. Besides if groudon and kyrogre got megas they would have to be transferable to x/y.. not to mention that x/y has been hacked weeks after release and pretty much we found only 2 new megas and 3 events as well as potentially scrapped or hidden vivillons.

These may be what they're refering to by "never before seen".. or it would be like that if hackers didn't jump to work.

They also wanted these hidden more than anything.. notice how nintendo let action replays and cheating device get arceus and all those pokemon? but only now when there is very little special they actually threaten the company of powersaves (datel) with a lawsuite to stop releasing the unreleased content.. they weren't only spoiling events.. they were spoiling future plans and games gamefreak had all along!

But who knows.. time will tell. We'll know what's up in 7 months.

Thats true, but it might also just be a form change or something. According to serebii it was an email to Daisuki Club members specifically about the boxart, and they also used the same phrase to describe black/white kyurem too.

Items aren't transferable to begin with so it won't matter if you can't get their megas since if its a form change that wouldn't transfer either. It could be mega latias and latios are meant to be transferable but groudon and kyogre's new forms aren't.

The way I see it, they may not be transferable.. but they may be tradable like every other item (which I still don't understand why..)

Wasn't hoenn the time of shadow pokemon? Maybe we have some kinda remakes of not only ruby and sapphire.. but the hoenn GC games as well!

What if this is Basicly B/W2 but for Ruby/Sapphire? It's not sounding like a remake. But we might get an answer Sunday night.

THE REASON IM GETTING A 3DS! Sapphire was my first Pokemon game and I look forward to see what they can do in a remake of it.

Similar to how the Gamecube version of the first Resident Evil game was an RE1 remake built from the ground up, it'd be safe to say that Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire would be built from the ground up remakes of Ruby & Sapphire versions.

I'd personally expect these games to be more successful remakes than Firered, Leafgreen, Soulsilver, and Heartgold versions (which had minor differences from their original counterparts).
