Earlier this year Nintendo released details of its Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Battle Tournament 2014 regional heats, a Nintendo UK competition that's served as a meaty warm-up to the official Pokémon Video Game Championships that kick off soon, events that will culminate in the World Championships later this year. The Nintendo UK events have not only helped players practice ahead of the big tournaments, but include prizes such as a week-long trip for two to Japan for the 'Ultimate Pokémon Expert' winner and a fast-track to round two of the main tournament later this year.

With the heats all finished, details have been released for the upcoming grand final in London. It's all happening on Saturday 26th April at The Music Room venue in the city and will be hosted by Johnny Vegas, a well known comedian, actor and — according to the press release — "Pokémon fan". If there aren't a host of in-jokes that only 'mon fans can understand, we'll be calling that one a cheeky fib — the pressure's on, Mr Vegas.

In addition to the serious business of declaring champions in the Ultimate Pokémon Expert, Junior Expert, Ultimate Team and Pokémon Apprentice categories, the event will have a chill-out area where attendees can play games such as Mario Kart 7 and Learn With Pokemon: Typing Adventure. A Pokémon 'guru' will also be on hand to provide advice, while StreetPass and Cosplay contests will also take place.

It all starts at 11:30 on the day at 7pm, following which we'll have some new Pokémon champions to celebrate.
