Kirby 3 DS Dated JP

When considering important sales months in the calendar year, we suspect that plenty within the game development and publishing industry have January near the bottom of the list. It does bring some new games, such as Kirby: Triple Deluxe in Japan, but it generally represents a notable downturn after the highs of November and December.

And so the final Media Create chart update of the month for January doesn't bring many big numbers for Nintendo's homeland. The software results have PS3 title Sengoku Basara 4 making its début in number one, with Kirby's latest outing being pushed off top spot. A number of the usual 3DS titles retain a presence, though a batch of new releases of titles on Sony hardware break up the portable's hold on the top spots; the top 20 is below, with lifetime sales (physical retail only) in parenthesis.

1. [PS3] Sengoku Basara 4 – 176,313 (New)
2. [3DS] Kirby: Triple Deluxe – 58,015 (353,291)
3. [3DS] Puzzle & Dragons Z – 35,568 (1,300,778)
4. [PS3] Saints Row IV: Ultra Super Ultimate Deluxe Edition – 34,486 (New)
5. [PS3] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z – 30,192 (New)
6. [PSV] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z – 22,901 (New)
7. [3DS] Yokai Watch – 17,544 (345,529)
8. [3DS] Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind – 17,282 (221,249)
9. [3DS] Pokemon X and Y – 16,933 (3,910,658)
10. [3DS] The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds – 15,095 (356,494)
11. [PS3] Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster – 10,412 (266,171)
12. [PSP] Kiniro no Colda 3: Another Sky feat. Jinnan – 10,295 (New)
13. [PSV] Uta Kumi 575 – 9,701 (New)
14. [3DS] Sentouchu Densetsu no Shinobi to Survival Battle – 9,271 (251,197)
15. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 – 8,285 (3,201,132)
16. [Wii U] Super Mario 3D World – 7,667 (470,687)
17. [PS3] Grand Theft Auto V – 7,199 (689,415)
18. [PSV] Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster Twin Pack – 7,033 (214,245)
19. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf – 6,437 (3,656,250)
20. [360] Saints Row IV: Ultra Super Ultimate Deluxe Edition – 5,393 (New)

The hardware results don't bring much happy reading, with only the PS3 avoiding a drop in sales — that and the Vita possibly had assistance from some new releases. The 3DS XL / LL remains on top, a position boosted when combined with the standard model, but the Wii U continues to lose momentum following its improvements at the close of 2013; last week's sales are in parenthesis.

3DS LL – 26,484 (32,393)
PlayStation Vita – 21,498 (24,755)
PlayStation 3 – 13,360 (13,243)
3DS – 11,745 (15,045)
Wii U – 8,490 (11,443)
PSP – 3,428 (4,024)
PlayStation Vita TV – 1,792 (2,208)
Xbox 360 – 260 (273)

That's another week of sales in Japan, rounding off a relatively quiet January, with Kirby: Triple Deluxe being a bright-spot for the 3DS.
