UKIE has issued its update of the latest comings and goings in the UK software all-format charts, and there are some positives and negatives for Nintendo to consider. At the higher end of the scale we have Pokémon X & Pokémon Y in fourth and fifth place respectively, both pushed down one position by the multi-platform release of Skylanders SWAP Force, which did also arrive on Wii U, Wii and 3DS. Activision's toy-based adventure did sell over 35% less launch copies than its predecessors, with the Wii being the most popular format with 37% of sales — the Wii U accounted for 4%.
The debut of Sonic Lost World may disappoint SEGA, with the Wii U and 3DS versions combining to reach 11th place, missing a symbolic debut in the top 10; its position next week will be a source of interest in gauging its momentum. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD follows up its debut in fourth and second week in tenth by dropping down to 16th, not necessarily impressive in pure numbers but some of the best staying power we've seen with a Wii U exclusive in recent times.
On the 3DS front we have Animal Crossing: New Leaf keeping steady in 17th, while Mario Kart 7 sneaks into 39th.
There's certainly good news for Pokémon, the Wii's share of Skylanders sales and, to an extent, The Wind Waker HD — Sonic's début could have been stronger.

The Pokemon games deserve to stay in the first and second positions for ETERNITY.
Sonic Lost Worlds WiiU is a great game 8.5/10 (great presentation, excellent gameplay & genuine challenge) IMO, let's hope it makes Sega some money in the long run.
Aww poor Sonic. Not surprised though, the boxart isn't exactly appealing, and the enemies on the front have to be some of the most generic things I've ever seen.
Well, for a Sonic Game, this isn't really bad.
But Pokemon beaten by Skylanders?
WTF?
I believe Pokemon X/Y is not selling that well in Europe. The franchise is declining here.
Most kids that were into Pokemans years ago have obviously grown up into the iFad generation... Angry Birds are the new Pocket Monsters
@Rief Lol ikr
The most disappointing thing for me here is the 37% Wii vs 4% Wii U sales for Skylanders. That's really not looking so good. :/
Given the poor review, Sonic the Lost World may flop just like what Wonderful 101 did.
@DilMan33
Im the same age as you man, just could not buy a pokemon game. However, really want to see what all the fuss is about. Seen so many people on here in their 30`s that have bought it (play it) and really rate it. Would you recommend it for our age range?
Uh, bit weird that people are saying Pokemon is not doing well when everything ahead of it sells huge numbers. Being outsold by FIFA, GTA and Skylanders does not mean you're doing poorly.
@SnapDragon - given the customer base, 4% of total sales might not be all that bad...... Remembering that Wii U is maybe 2.5% of market?
POKEMON SHOULD BE NUMBER 1 FOREVER! (`Δ´)!
Strange that the UK charts list X and Y separately. If you combine the two they would place higher.
many people cry like bit!@$!# when they see bad reviews before they even play the game, they complain like if they know the game already plus must of nintendo fanboys just buy nintendo software on nintendo consoles, the ones who talk about pokemon as everything this world needs.
@DilMan33
Thanks for your response, it`s very kind of you and really good to get an opinion from someone the same age. The thing is, I really enjoy a good RPG and grew up with the likes of Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana. I can remember when Pokemon first came out and how crazy and strange it all seemed. What the hell, I will make a purchase of Pokemon (Y) but I`m pretty sure I`ll not mention it to my girlfriend, haha.
@jayclayx I laugh when you say "most of nintendo fanboys just buy nintendo software on nintendo consoles." It is ironic that Nintendo fans want more third-party titles to resurrent Wii U on one hand, and do not quite support anything other than Nintendo-titles on the other hand.
@Drop-Dead-Fred Perhaps Pokemon is really good, given the raving comments from people. Unfortunately, the first Pokemon game I tried was Pokemon Rumble on Wii and that game was just boring...
@GreatPlayer
Im with you on that, played Pokemon Rumble on demo and turned it off after 5-10 mins. I also laughed when I read that "Most of Nintendo fan-boys just buy Nintendo software on Nintendo consoles." Reminds me of when I was kid and wanted to play Mario Bros so bad and did`nt have a NES, so I tried plugging a friends copy it into my Master System.
@Drop-Dead-Fred I played the first pokemon a little bit at that time and basically it consisted of just the grinding but not the story. (Which at the time did the same thing for me as reading a really good book).
The newer ones for me are like watching a bad cartoon. (Or only grinding with not enough interesting story like FF4 : The After Years).
@unrandomsam
Just really want a good RPG to get my teeth into.
Sonic didn't do bad considering the harsh reviews and being released on Wii U.
@Drop-Dead-Fred Have you played all the ones that we only got recently from about that time ? (i.e Dragon Quest IV/V/VI - I think V is probably one of the best JRPGS I have ever played. VI at its current cost is certainly worth it.)
@Drop-Dead-Fred At least I was more patient than you and played Pokemon Rumble for an hour... :> It was a waste of my hour anyway.
I have not played any of the Dragon Quest games except Dragon Quest 8 (PS2) and 9 (NDS). Highly recommend any of them, although I like Dragon Quest 8 more (better graphics, with character design resembling those in Dragonball). In Japan and Asia, Dragon Quest is a much more popular than Final Fantasy.
@Drop-Dead-Fred If you are looking for a good RPG on the 3DS and you like dungeon crawling I'd say get either Shin Megami Tensei IV or Etrian Odyssey: The Millennium Girl. Both brilliant games that have been holding me to my 3DS for some time now.
@Peach64 For pokémon it is.
But this is europe we're talking about, we shouldn't be surprised...
@Melkaticox Pretty sure FIFA 13 sold about double what Black/White 2 did Worldwide, so no, it's not poor for Pokemon, nor is it a 'Europe thing'.
I really hope people give sonic lost world a chance, it's such a good game.
Nothing worse than a good game being overlooked.
@jayclayx
What exactly is your point? Or are you just brimming over the top with negativity toward Nintendo fans?
People bitched about W101 getting 7's because the game was phenomenal and the controls were spectacular. The Metacritic user scores are right on par with Grand Theft Auto 5, yet the critic score average had a 20+ point disparity in favor of the game that WASN'T on a Nintendo console. That's why people bitched, and I was one of them.
As for Sonic Lost World, I think people are bitching because some of us have played the game and think it's great, but others in NA who haven't played it yet, such as myself, have seen tons of gameplay footage. And say what you will, but you CAN get a pretty good jist of how good a game is if you watch enough of its gameplay. And from everything I've seen (and I've seen a lot mind you), it looks really fun, particularly the Wii U version. I'm not saying it's a perfect game or anything, but a 5/10 seems a tad harsh. A score THAT low should only be reserved for absolute garbage. You know, Carnival 30 Great Games or ESPN Sports Connection.
@Drop-Dead-Fred
I think part of Pokémon's appeal is that it has a little for everyone. It can be a very deep game, and if you engage in collecting, trading and evolving monsters it can be very addictive. I am 34 and I will be getting this one as soon as I can. But I do agree that Pokémon Rumble was not a good place to start.
@JaxonH - "I'm not saying it's a perfect game or anything, but a 5/10 seems a tad harsh. A score THAT low should only be reserved for absolute garbage. You know, Carnival 30 Great Games or ESPN Sports Connection."
If absolute garbage like that gets a 5, I'ld hate to see what would get a 1 or 2. If you have a range from 1 to 10 something has to get a 1. Something besides Superman and Aquaman.
I haven't played Sonic yet but I'm not surprised it isn't selling well considering its recent past and the low install base is on the Wii U. I'll give you two letters why it ins't selling well on 3DS. Sonic is an "I'll get to it" game, not a midnight opening day 1 game.
Skylanders isn't just abut the game, its about peoples uncontrollable urge to collect toys. Having a good game doens't hurt. Pokemon Rumble U kept my kids busy for about 2 days, 2 hours each day. That was it. They never even had a chance to buy any toys. The 2nd Pokepark game would have been a great Skylanders type game. I really feel like Pokepark 3 will be a toy collection game. Pokepark 2 was actually good. Lots to do, even after you beat the final boss. It's not Last of Us or Beyond 2 Souls but is a god kids game.
Sorry, I have no idea why this post is rambled so long.
@unrandomsam
Nice one Sam, been meaning to try one of them out for ages. Can`t believe I just picked up a copy of VI off ebay for a couple of quid.
@GreatPlayer
Well, grab a copy of Dragon Quest VI, only paid a couple of sobs for it. Will crack on with that next week.
Sonic might pick up if people play the demo, the reviews are bad but it’s a really rather good game (I have 3DS version), with some of the most responsive controls in the series I've played (at least in the 3D style games).
@sinalefa
Topman, played a few hours of pokemon Y after downloading last night. Right up my street, can`t believe I would have missed out on this without a few recommendation on here. It just proves you should never judge a book by its cover. The whole kids cartoon thing always put me off before but I real like the presentation and the feel of the battle system.
@IlovedemRPGS Im based in England brother, really like all the ATLUS games, just wish SMT IV would hurry up and be released in EU. Not long to wait for Bravely Default...
@Drop-Dead-Fred Wow I didn't realize you guys had not gotten SMT IV yet, That really sucks I'm loving that game I picked up the limited edition with art booklet too. Yeah you guys only have less than two weeks, we aren't getting that one until December 6th in the US.
@IlovedemRPGS I`m affaid you have to wait till next year for a NoA release. 6/12 is the release for Bravely Default in the EU. Sure you still be having lots of fun with SMT IV up till early next year anyways. Bit of give and take sometimes, you have SMT IV we have Bravely Default.
@Drop-Dead-Fred Oh damn you are right, The site I read that from got it completely wrong haha that's unfortunate. Well I'll be waiting for that one, but hopefully we both will be enjoying Monolith's X around the same time.
