Its sales are roaring along

It's time for the weekly Japanese sales progress report via Media Create, and Monster Hunter 4 continues its strong momentum, hopefully boding well for the future of the series' growing partnership between Capcom and Nintendo. While that blows all competition away in the software chart, the 3DS is doing a similar trick in the hardware stakes, easily outselling all rivals combined.

To start with the software top 20, it was a week with just one new entry and, beyond Capcom's behemoth, modest sales figures. There's disappointment for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, which sees its already modest sales plummet to four figures; lifetime sales are in parenthesis.

1. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 – 140,538 (2,542,615)
2. [PS3] Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate – 24,612 (105,010)
3. [PS3] Armored Core: Verdict Day – 14,622 (73,806)
4. [PS3] The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki – 12,734 (80,452)
5. [PSV] The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki – 11,092 (92,713)
6. [3DS] Tomodachi Collection: New Life – 7,922 (1,458,442)
7. [3DS] Yokai Watch – 6,964 (194,790)
8. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf – 6,586 (3,431,589)
9. [PSV] Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate – 6,538 (32,021)
10. [Wii U] The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD – 6,210 (36,474)
11. [3DS] Disney Magic Castle: My Happy Life – 5,767 (285,326)
12. [3DS] Mario & Luigi: Dream Team – 5,614 (324,414)
13. [PS3] Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn – 5,199 (221,355)
14. [3DS] Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon – 4,442 (910,989)
15. [3DS] Mario Kart 7 – 3,734 (2,132,348)
16. [3DS] New Super Mario Bros. 2 – 3,454 (2,105,202)
17. [PS3] Oreimo Happy End – 3,324 (34,378)
18. [3DS] Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion – 3,263 (8,832)
19. [3DS] Spec: Kan – 3,044 (New)
20. [3DS] Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D – 2,384 (277,466)

The hardware chart tells the usual happy tale for the 3DS, with just a slight dip on its impressive figures from last week. It's rather grim for the Wii U, however, joining the negative momentum of other platforms in dropping further to just over 4,000 units; last week's sales are in parenthesis.

3DS LL – 85,885 (93,757)
3DS – 37,102 (40,487)
PlayStation 3 – 10,232 (11,382)
PSP – 4,093 (4,805)
Wii U – 4,001 (5,909)
PlayStation Vita – 3,538 (6,031)
Wii – 914 (866)
Xbox 360 – 354 (511)

While the Wii U naturally hopes for improved fortunes in the Holiday season, Nintendo must just be relieved to see the 3DS flying so high.
