Earlier today we reported on a rumour that Crytek USA may be interested in buying the Darksiders IP, as it's one of the franchises that's been left unclaimed in the sale of THQ's assets. That's a pity, as despite the odd frustrating section Darksiders II was a thoroughly decent action adventure title.
In what seems to be a legacy of its status as a franchise in limbo, a message has been posted on the European Wii U eShop advising that the title will no longer be available to purchase after 31st March; if you already own it and need to re-download, you'll still be able to do so after this date. Typically when titles have disappeared from the Wii Shop in the past, for example, it's been due to licensing or legal issues. No details have been provided by Nintendo, so it's unclear whether this was a Nintendo decision or something enforced externally.
At the time of writing there's no similar message in the North American eShop, but we'll keep an eye out for any updates. If you are in Europe and fancy having Darksiders II sitting safely on your hard drive, you'll need to take the plunge this weekend.

It's on sale on the Playstation store as well as other THQ titles. So I wonder if it will disappear from the Playstation store as well. I believe titles have disappeared from the Playstation store in the past without warning.
Ill just keep holding to my physical copy. Who knew, the first THQ game on the Wii u would also be their last...
Well, crap. I'll have to snag it right now then. I've had my eye on it a while but was dragging my arse.
May just have to grab a physical copy before it is gone FOREVA!
This was one of the games I was looking forward to whenever I got a Wii U. Looks like I may never get to play it cheap anyways.
As I understand it All THQ game franchises that havevnot found a new publisher are being removed from all online stores.. steam, xbl, psn, estore..
Its just a matter of when it will happen.
The sad thing is all the titles removed will become highly sought after titles to collectors pushing the retail/ebay prices up.
@Zellybeanie . You won't regret it! I'm liking it a lot! I saved my money and patiently waited for a sale. When Target had the buy 2 get 1 free deal last week i picked it up along with Monster Hunter and Need For Speed.....T'was a good week indeed.
@ArkOne77 I got Monster Hunter (both versions) and LEGO City last week. My checking account is suffering from whiplash.
I'm glad I went ahead and got this when it came out. It's a really good game and a shame at where the franchise is heading to.
@Zellybeanie ....LMAO. I couldn't agree more!!! But hey......we now have games galore! So we'll be broke and happy gamers. I'll just eat Ramen and PB & J Sammiches.
Who was getting the money from DSII sales in between THQ's closure and now?
Who would buy this game digital when you can get it for £15 on disc? Not a big loss at all, but I really hope someone other than Crytek gets the IP, because they have been very anti-Nintendo in the past.
@ArkOne77 Make extra, please. I'm coming over!
@Bones00 yes thay have i notest when the Vita came out as im sure Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2 were on there to d-lode also i notest some games and DLC disapering when the New PS Store went live ( i dispice that new shop so mutch -_-)
@ArkOne77 @Zellybeanie Where is this get-together? XD
@Chriiis At @ArkOne77 's house! Ramen and sammiches for all! Woot!
Hopefully there'll also be punch and pie.
@Zellybeanie & @Chrilis.....Anything's possible! haha....You guys might have to help make the stuff. I think I am developing the same repetitive stress injury to my thumb as our beloved Smash Brothers producer from all the games lately!!
For anyone that doesnt have this game Best Buy is having a sale for Darksiders 2 for only 19.99 from the 59.99 that it still is at any other store. I dont have it yet but will after work today. Glad I waited. Im in NA also.so just thought I'd share it
I got it last week. Excellent game so far.
Wish Platinum buys Darksiders
I really liked this game, if you don't have it, go get it. Lots to do especially of your a completist!
I will go for the retail game, here is in 700 pesos while in eshop is at 1000 pesos.
So glad I got this version when I could, I got it for free during targets buy 2 get 1 free deal (It was the free game on the receipt). But that was the only copy I could find of the Wii U version, it was even the last one they had.
Wait, what? What?
I really need to stop drinking when I read these articles. Now my table is a mess all over again.
I really enjoyed Darksiders 2 despite not getting into it immediately. Once you persevere and dig a little deeper, you will find one of the most enjoyable games on the Wii U yet.
Dang, i wanna get this but unfortunately I wont have the money be the 31st .
Done. I just got the game for less than 30 €.
...Why isn't there a serious analyst that can explain why games, save from the likes of Mario Kart and Smash Wii, are so cheap after such a short time?? Business-wise, this is unsustainable.
Always had DSII & Batman on my 'to download someday' list... Then along came Monster Hunter now I don't care anymore
Makes sense - even if someone buys the IP (I still say it won't be Crytek) there'll still have to be a new system put in place if/when it goes up for download again. Nintendo would be in a bit of a dodgy position taking money for something they didn't own and couldn't pay for!
@luminalace
Completely agree. I started off thinking it was OK and wound up loving it. I'm now playing it through for the second time.
Hooray. The eShop will be better for it.
This is why digital download sucks and why I will never support it. Games tend to disappear on and about when new crap happens. It's better to just get the game physical anyways, I just don't see digital download overtaking physical copies considering crappy servers and automatic deletion of software.
@retro_player_22 If you purchase any game digitally and at it is removed from the download store be it steam/xbl/psn/googleplay/itunes or eStore you can redownload the title via you purchase history.
@Ryno anyone who still wants this game, its being sold for £13 on zavvi.com, they are a great online store,an reliable, the prices they do most times are even better then amazon, anyway £13 is well worth it, for this game! i think the reason why its removed form the eshop, may be the curse of ea striking again, since ea publishes the games for crytek,an since ea tried to get Nintendo to make the online infrastructure of the wii u be origin,an nitnedo declined, ea was pissed, an thats why the ea support for wii u has near enough vanished! even after they were on stage at e3 for Nintendo pledging the support,an now they dont give a damn,an have changes their tune, its the origin curse,an also because Nintendo refused to let ea implement online passes,an also drm,an micro transactions, (the ea way LOL) all of this has made ea mad at Nintendo, an may be because crytek is buying the darksiders i.p, an they will need ea to sell it digitally through origin,am ea most likely told them, get it off of Nintendo's eshop! an so thats they have done, this is all my opinion of course!
Sad, but it was to be expected! Since I don't have a Wii u yet, my only hope is to find a second hand copy someday! Hopefully I am in luck!
