Making your quest a little easier

It was revealed a couple of months back that Dragon Quest VII would be making a return with a remake on the 3DS in Japan.

The game will largely stay true to the original, but it’s been confirmed that the random encounters system found in the PlayStation version have been changed to visible encounters on 3DS. Dragon Quest VII was the last in the series to use random encounters, as after the game’s release Enix Corporation merged with Squaresoft and all further Dragon Quest titles utilised visible foes throughout.

This new system will naturally make it easier for players to avoid unwanted battles and to seek out enemies with specific skills, but purists may be upset at the removal of random battles.

There's no news on the game making an appearance in the West yet, but considering Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride and Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation were both released on the DS it would be a surprise to see Dragon Quest VII omitted.

What are your thoughts? Would you have preferred the game to stick with random encounters, or are visible enemies the way forward? Let us know in the comments section below.
