Nintendo World NYC Gearing Up For Wii U Midnight Launch

Posted by Orla Madden

Is your body ready?

Nintendo will be holding a midnight launch at New York's Nintendo World Store to mark the release of Wii U; from 6pm on Saturday 17th November you can head down to the store and join in the hype.

You can take a wild guess who will be there — none other than the man himself, Reggie Fils-Aime — to welcome fans and continue the tradition of selling the console to the first person in the queue. Will Isaiah Triforce Johnson be the first to get it once again?

Nintendo will also be selling New York-themed T-shirts with its mascot, Mario, at the event. All proceeds from sales of the shirts will be donated to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

Let us know if you plan on heading down to Nintendo World Store for the event. Don't forget to follow us on Twitter to share some images, as well as on our Facebook page.

More power to ya Triforce Johnson.
I wish Reggie would be in Cross Lanes, WV to sell me mine!

Any chance we can get a link with the info? Their website doesn't have anything listed for the 17th and simply says the console comes out on the 18th.

Well, I missed the per-order options and wish there had been warning that I noticed when Target put out their pre-order cards! (People were picking up 6 at a time apparently. Stores don't enforce those limits very well.)

I'm wondering how much info we'll be able to get about who will have stock and how much before launch day. I'll be making a bunch of direct store calls on Saturday I bet. Since almost every store did pre-orders though I can just imagine the misinformation I'm going to receive.

My body is ready to stare out the window for hours waiting for the delivery guy to hand me my Wii U. It will be awesome.

I went to Nintendo world to pay off my preorder 2 days ago and ask one of the staff members if they were going to have a midnight release. He said they're still waiting for confirmation, I take it this is the green light.

Now I know how i'm going to spend 2 hours of my Saturday and the rest of my Sunday

@rjejr It was a press release, with no links beyond the standard Wii U page on Orla's covered pretty much everything really, and the PR also says that systems will be sold, at this store, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mr. Johnson must have a johnson for a brain, as waiting in line for anything is for morons and farm animals. I'm getting the system on day one too buddy! but I get to take a shower before I go pick mine up. Can we start acting civilized again, please? So my system won't have someone's signature on it? I don't need that, at all. Still, have fun "Triforce"! and the next ten people in line who have to put up with some stinky bum.

Mr. Johnson is the man! I am going to wear a power glove to pick up my Wii U on the 18th!

why dont we all live in castles while we are at it lol, also civilized people are not to be rude to others

ps. cant wait to get my wiiu deluxe definitly going to a launch pickup in my area if they will have it

It's already sold out here.. so.. I will have to wait at least a week after launch. Maybe even longer.

Which will get me a WiiU around mid december, I think.

I find it hilariously ironic that Nintendo fanboys are criticizing Triforce Johnson for....being a devoted fan.

Wow he is a very devoted fan. Regi will probably be like oh it's Johnson again. I hope i can get down there for the event

Ugh.... All of this talk about wii u, and I'm still sad that I can't preorder it... Walmart actually had preorders, but they canceled them monday so I can't get one. I'M SO ANGRY!

No,my body isn't ready.I'm not getting the Wii U on launch day, since I don't have enough to get one yet.Maybe if I get some Christmas money.

Isaiah should be given a ticket to front of the queue, if he isn't there already. Feel bad for the dude in that his plans were ruined by Sandy

Gamestop at the mall in Green Bay, WI is doing a midnight pickup as well. Not quite NYC, but still pretty cool. Can't wait.

Wish I could receive my Wii U from the one and only Reggie! I'll have to settle for my typical Best Buy location next week. So excited!

Normally I'm envious of you guys in the States getting gear before us (Nov 30th in Oz) but I'm actually excited for you guys

Can't wait to hear the reports and hope you have helped sort out any potential teething troubles in time for RoW (rest of world ) release.

Not receiving mine from Reggie obviously... But I will always take the pleasure of having yet another Nintendo console handed to me by the same EB games X360 fanboy that has been there since I got the Wii, 3DS & 3DSXL

I kinda wish i lived in New York. I live in Nebraska. No one cares about Nebraska. According to the "welcome to Nebraska" sign coming in from Iowa, were home of Arbor Day. Great to now that we have nothing else to be proud of except a holiday celebrating trees. And since where mostly open farmland it doesn't even make sense. Luckily I live in Omaha so people know about my city. At least I don't live in North Dakota
