It's time for the weekly Japanese charts update, and if you've been reading these articles for the past couple of months you'll already know the story: Nintendo dominates sales in its homeland. The company's performance around the world may be a mixed bag at present, but results in Japan rarely let Satoru Iwata and his colleagues down.
The headline news in the software chart is that Mario Party 9 has jumped one position in its second week to take first place. Games on Nintendo systems account for eight of the top ten and the results are below, including life to date sales, courtesy of Andriasang.

The good news continues in the hardware chart: 3DS once again outsold all competitors combined and Wii enjoyed an increase in sales. Results are below, with last week's figures in parentheses.

These results cover the Golden Week in Japan, a holiday period that can lead to boosts in sales, and it seems that Nintendo has benefited the most from the festivities.

Yes let's all judge a game's quality by its name, shall we? Heaven forbid the Japanese buy a good game that's all about bloodletting. It will never cease to amaze me that people don't bat an eyelid about a game that features ultraviolence. But the very suggestion of contextual sexual themes and it's immediately a game just for perverts.

@waltz: if the name of the game wasn't so blatantly odd, there's a good chance people wouldn't be loling. it's about up there with that 'if i was sealed in a room with a girl i'd _____' (or whatever it's titled) game, lol. way to get uber-defensive over nothing, though-- sounds like you're still stinging over how Love Plus didn't really catch on here either. :3

@ChocoGoldfish Yup, pretty much! Although I also think there would be a market for these type of otaku games in N. America as well, there just needs to be the corresponding platform that will support them...sideways glance to iOS. No really, no explicit nudity so it should fly by the censors and the game itself has a great developer pedigree. Couple that with a higher percentage of the revenue pie and c'mon Chunsoft whatcha waitin for?

Is the title a reference to Golden Week? Also as C-Olimar pointed out, the Vita dropped in sales; that's a little surprising since literally everything else went up in sales that week in terms of systems.
