Two months and counting

Yesterday Nintendo revealed more details about Kid Icarus: Uprising, and now we have a fresh trailer to share too.

North American residents who pre-order from select retailers (to be confirmed) will also receive a download code for 3D Classics: Kid Icarus.

Check out the trailer below — which contains the immortal line "a space kraken? Well, that came out of nowhere!" — and let us know if you'll be putting down your money on this in two months.

what a sucker

If the game is filled with terrible puns like that, I'm both tempted and horrified.
Also this looks great

I hope it plays as amazing as it looks and seems from the trailer. If it's diverse and deep i can't wait to jump into this dark pit.

day 1. paying this pre-order off the day i ho get mass effect. then pickinguo resident evil in April.

good hear for gaming

TimboBaggins said:

I like everything but the cheesy kiddy voice acting. Might have to turn the volume off on this one, but I will definitely be buying this one

Angel_Fur said:

Looks like it'll do until a new Starfox arrives, although the voiceovers (both the script and the generic cartoon-matinee voices) make me cringe.

Spoony_Tech said:

Anybody else feel a bit nauseous on that 360 pit did. I hope that doesn't happen to often! Still looking really good though. The most intense action I've seen in a while!

shingi_70 said:

I laugh at those cringing about voiceacting. get the hell over yourselves. its a game that's supposed to emulate a cartoon. don't take it too serious.

Kagamine said:

I like the voice acting! it's actually pretty good when you consider that it is similar to a cartoon. It's not meant to be serious like Dead Space or countless others.

Xerxes said:

I love the dialogue, it may be cheesy at times but thats what gives it charm, I can't wait

Karakato said:

@Angel_fur Or maybe it was intended to be Cheezy in the first place? It fits the game pretty well if you ask me. Goofy voice acting can be done well, just look at Starfox 64. I can't make judgment as the game isn't out yet, but I'm getting 80's cartoon vibes from this, so it may be great.

Anyway, I'm excited for this game, Sakurai is really ambitious with this title. The biggest problem for me is the controls. But as someone who dug MPH, I think I'll be alright and the stand could be helpful. Week one for sure.

NintyMan said:

Sakurai said himself that Kid Icarus is meant to be more light-hearted than the seriousness of Zelda or Metroid. Personally, I think this is Nintendo's best attempt at voice acting yet. It does indeed sound like a 80's cartoon, and Starfox 64 sounded silly and yet fans can't get enough of it. Bottom line, just play the game and then see if they crack jokes every minute or not. I don't think they'll overdo it.

Anyway, that music is stellar!

FonistofCruxis said:

@Angel_Fur I can think of many games with worse voice acting than this. If you really think its that bad look up some videos on youtube of voice acting from the likes of Chaos wars, Arc rise fantasia, the original Resident evil, Mega man 8 and Mega man X4 etc.

WingedSnagret said:

I don't care what anyone thinks, I really like the voice acting. its fresh, different. And they are trying to be funny in a cheesy way, and it works! March 23 FTW!

Megajack said:

preordoring and getting on day 1. i was already planning on day 1 when i first saw it at E3 since kid icarus is my altime favorite NES game.

Angel_Fur said:

@mariofanatic128: I agree that there are worse, but that's damning with faint praise. Starfox 64 may be super-cheesy but at least you can tell the difference between different characters with their accents, which gives it a huge amount of charm. When the fight happens here and they do the smacktalk it's impossible to tell the angels apart. Anyway, it's no biggie. Looks a fun game.

Knuckles said:

I'll be getting this game day one hopefullly. Also does anyone know if walmart does pre-orders on video games? Particularly this one. Also i dont think there is anything wrong with either star fox 64 voice acting then again ive only played a demo in ssbb for sf 64, and played 64 3d 10 times

Capt_N said:

I'll def try a demo. The dialogue is goofy, though. Though, spectacular highlights, or epileptic seizure inducing visuals? No, seriously. I'm being really serious. & in 3D too, that could relly cause issues for some. Hopefully not, though.

Edit: Last I knew, Wal-Mart does do pre-ordering, or allows you to, anyway.

Edit #2: Yes, the link here is to the Walmart online game page, where you can pre-order.

I'm going to summarize every single thing Palutina said throughout that entire video in one statement: that's what she said.

bahooney said:

It looks AMAAAAZING. My mind is blown. Although the "Kalamari!! Sucker..." line seriously made me cringe. So bad... just like E3 2010's "BARK LIKE A DAAUUUUGGG."

grumblebuzzz said:

Gonna wait for reviews and maybe even first hand opinions from other people before I drop cash on it. The controls kinda scare me. I'm arthritic (yes, it's not just for old people) so games with all this involvement — like this one and Metroid Prime: Hunters — make my hands hurt.

grumblebuzzz said:

And also, why does Pit have laser guns and all this other futuristic shooter stuff? I thought Kid Icarus was supposed to be set in an ancient Greek-like time frame? I don't know. This has gone from something I was super stoked for when it was announced at e3 two years ago to what looks to me just like some random, generic rail shooter you'd find on the PSP. I wish that they would have made this a platformer in the same vein as the old games, but with modern twists. It's unrecognizable in its current incarnation.

CosmoXY said:

How can fictional characters in a completely fictional setting have guns? It confounds me day and night, it makes no sense at all. I'm going to keep playing Mario where everything there makes perfect sense.

WingedSnagret said:

@Radixxs I think he said puppet, probably referring to Pit doing everything that Palutena tells him to do.
@NintyFan You definitely have a point there, I mean, look at the Star Pirate dudes, they don't look like they belong there at all. And yet they kinda have a fitting part in the story, with them stealing star constellations and all.

lonlon-milker said:

I think palutena also voice acted as gwen for guild wars eye of the north an the 2008 prince of Persia as Elita.

Punny said:

Sakurai, you have outdone yourself again?

"Who are YOU callin' a puppet!?"

zane said:

Calamari! WHAT A SUPPER!!!

Oh and sorry if I kept you waiting EPIC EPICNESS

BulbasaurusRex said:

I'll be pre-ordering this as soon as they reveal which retailers are giving out the bonus download code.

Flutterguy said:

This looks pretty good but I just could never get into Metroid. If it's by the same people I don't know what to think.
Though a game I love, The World Ends With You, was created by the people who made Kingdom Hearts, which I didn't really get into either.
So I guess we'll see.

Kirk said:

I'm just not excited about this game. Something doesn't look quite right. I also think those flying sections are cheating slightly with possible rendered video footage for the backgrounds and only the characters actually being in real-time which is a bit of a cheat and it actually looks as such to me.

misswliu81 said:

i'm loving the clips, really hoping the gameplay lives up to the hype this game is getting.

TheGreenSpiny said:

@flutterguy: This is not from the same people who made Metroid. You're thinking of the old NES games that were made side by side from R&D 1.

This is from the Smash Brothers team.

lord_hades said:

who else loves what they did to the theme song in this trailer it sounds like it should be in the last boss battle

OldBoy said:

Nope.Still not convinced by this game.
The cheesiness is too much for me, though I'm sure kids will love it and the enemy and art design also seems very generic.
If it gets decent reviews I may try it out somewhere down the line but this is way down the list of games I want at the moment.

bonesy91 said:

I need this game like now haha.

/me watches trailer till eyes begin to go numb

B-Ray97 said:

I watch it,
and 5 minutes I look straight.
I was confused,
this is the game where i`m waiting 1 year for. not that i didn`t know that it was in develepmont but, this is a wonderfull game! with 6 new AR cards and even a stand?!?!
