Well the wait has been lengthy, but Giana Sisters DS is finally available to North American gamers.
While there was little (actually none whatsoever) fanfare for the release, the game is now available at various Walmart stores. And if you can't find the game locally, NewEgg has it in stock for $19.99, a far cry from the $70+ the European version has fetched in recent years.
If you're not familiar with the game or are still on the fence about a purchase, you can check out our Giana Sisters DS review to help you make up your mind.

...going out now to find one, argh!
Edit: Been looking around all day. No luck at Walmart, Toys R Us, Target, Fry's Electronics, Costco, Best Buy, K-Mart or Gamestop in my area. NewEgg ho!
YES!
The character designs remind me of Panties & Stockings. (calm down, it's an anime.) I heard about this before. I'm not sure if I'll pick it up though.
Another EU release that weirdly didnt show up in the UK. Suppose I could now import from the US.
about frickin' time! yes! i'm'a check my local wal-mart for it today!
If anyone finds it at their local Walmart, post about it on here.
Awesome! I've been waiting for this game. I thought that it was never going to come out here. I'm ordering from NewEgg.
I'll echo tbd on this: about frickin' time! Well, I now have to go to Walmart.
Wait... 2 Years for release on North America? Man...
DUDE!
They should totally be in the next Smash Brothers
Wow, that really was very little fanfare. I'll get it eventually...
I wouldn't wait too long. LOL
There's just too many games right now! After getting virtually no wii or 3DS games this year, Nintendo releases five in two months. I really want Giana Sisters, but I don't have limitless resources on my hands.
maybe there's hope for xenoblade after all in a few years... lol BETTER not be that long
Never heard of it 'til now. Guess I'll have to read that review.
In WalMart? I hope in Mexico they bring us this gem. (sorry by my grammar, some sentences are difficult to me to traslate).
@DarkEdi: Don't worry, we get what you're saying. :3
i have heard of this game, and TBH, i didn't even know it released in europe, let alone at all. i might buy this, but our wal-mart usually never gets stuff like this in. well, hopefully one will either end up there, or at gamestop. any game that's like mario, and holds a fanbase this strong MUST be good.
I don't know some people are saying this game is amazing others that it's terrible. The thing is that their are so many 2D platformers on the DS, that I'm not sure if this is worth getting. As it is I still haven't played Starfy of Kirby Super Start Ultra. Is this really that good? What makes this game special?
Great news. I liked the Commodore 64 game so I'll have to check this out when I get the chance.
@Scissors (19.): Imo the core of this game is very retro. Like in platformer's that weren't exactly as masterfully refined as Super Mario Bros. I played this game up until the last bonus levels which are quite hard and all in all would say it's nothing more than an okay game. (6 / 10 for me)
Let's hope it's only a foretaste of more EU games made available in the US.
I imported the PAL version from Europe (German manual, but the game is in English) off an ebay dealer, at a cost of 50 bucks +s/h, back in 2009. Wonderful game. I noticed the North American version of this game is not available at all on Amazon, which is highly unusual for a new release, so I ordered from NewEgg ASAP. As a token of support for developers, I usually make it a policy to buy the NA versions of games I've previously imported if/when they ever get released stateside. I did the same with 3D Picross DS (originally a Japanese exclusive) when they released it in the US. I don't normally do this with games, but I'll probably keep my US Giana Sisters shrink-wrapped; due to it's extremely limited release, it will likely be worth a large sum of money 15 years from now...
Newegg.com shipping is retarded. Both Great Giana Sisters and the Nyko Power Grip feature complementary free shipping, but if I try to place them both in same order, the shipping charge jumps up from $0 to $16, wtf! So I deleted the Nyko Power grip, which I'll likely get later on Amazon.
Oh damn. I never EVER could find a single copy of this in my whole country, nor in any european game store I know of. Looks like I will have to import it from the US somehow... Damn that... ;/
It's available for cheap on iOS but that means playing with a virtual d-pad.
The game's kind of a mixed bag, the difficulty is on the lower end (takes a long time to ramp up to anything challenging and even then the jumping is VERY forgiving, even the tiniest platforms are easy to land on) and the boss is fairly lame (he's repeated for every world, just getting a few more attack patterns) but there are also some really cool things in there.
Hmm... I might pick this up.
According to Walmart's website, this is an online only item. I went ahead and ordered one, I am really looking forward to it!
I guess I'll order it this week.
isnt this a sequel to that commodore 64 game?
It's a nice, but pretty basic platformer! Can get pretty hard though if you want to collect all the crystals!
"isnt this a sequel to that commodore 64 game?"
It's regarded a semi-sequel. New levels, but I heard the old levels are also in it!
Whoa! I figured at this point a North American release was out of the question. And yet here it is!
My order arrived today from NewEgg. Took just 6 days in all. I can also confirm this is the new NA box art for it. Thanks for keeping an eye out on the NA release Corbie.
Mine just arrived from Newegg today. Are there any major differences between the US and PAL versions of Giana Sisters? If there aren't, then I'm keeping my US copy sealed.
I missed this article when it was posted, and flipped when I found a copy on the shelf at BJ's! I snapped it up, naturally. So happy it's finally available!
