Melbourne EB Games to Host Official 3DS Launch Party

Posted by James Newton

Launch games confirmed too

Oh Australia: in all the excitement about the 3DS European and North American launches, with their special guests and exciting giveaways, somehow you got forgotten about. Don't worry though: we still love you, so here's the 3DS launch events you could be attending next Wednesday night.

The official event kicks off next Wednesday night at Melbourne's EB Games store on Swanston St. There'll be drinks and music, and while one lucky customer will get their console for nothing, everyone will receive a special Mii souvenir. Curious about what that is? You'll have to go down to find out.

If you can't get to Melbourne, several other EB Games stores are open for midnight events next week, including stores in Canberra, Campbelltown, Indooroopilly, and Midland, WA.

The launch line-up for 3DS in Australia looks a lot like this:

*Nintendogs + Cats
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition
Super Monkey Ball 3D
Ridge Racer 3D
Rayman 3D
Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
The Sims 3
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 3D
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars
Asphalt 3D
Rabbids Travel in Time 3D
Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D*.

Anything float your boat?

To celebrate the launch of Nintendo 3DS - 3D gaming without the need for special glasses - Nintendo and EB Games invite consumers to get down to The Nintendo Experience at EB Games, 67 Swanston St, Melbourne from 10:00pm - 1:00am, Wednesday 30 March.

Join in the midnight countdown for one of the most anticipated console launches! Nintendo and EB Games will be putting on food, soft drinks, music and even giving everyone who attends the opportunity to take home their very own Mii souvenir! Everyone who attends on the night will also go into the draw to win a Nintendo 3DS!

Staff on the night will be showing customers the inbuilt software features of the Nintendo 3DS including: Mii Maker, Mii Plaza and StreetPass. For those who purchase their Nintendo 3DS on the night and use it in store, you will be able to activate StreetPass and get started by collecting various Mii characters from like minded customers in the store!

So get down to The Nintendo Experience, EB Games, 67 Swanston St, Melbourne

Nintendo 3DS is available to purchase 31 March 2011. To believe it, you just have to see it.

I remember when there used to be EB Games (and Babbage's) down here, before they morphed into GameStops...

Sounds like a cool event. Wonder what the Mii souvenier will be...

Where I come from it used to be Software ETC, before they were bought out by Gamestop. I miss that store name. :(

If only they would do a party here in the U.S. :(

Sweet, when we go to see my sister in law in Oz, we always go into Melbourne. Been in that store a few times :D The staff are so much friendlier than the ones in miserable old England.

This is awesome! Too bad I live in the Gold Coast. :)

In any case, if the EB Games in Runaway Bay (where I have my preorder) has a midnight launch, I may have to miss out due to my parents being out of town and lack of bus service at that time of night. :|

I really want the 3DS, but none of these launch titles are appealing enough to grab right away. I've played Rayman 2 on the PC, N64 and original DS and have Street Fighter 4 on PC and Xbox 360. None of the other's are really my type of games..

It's weird not have a Mario game on launch :S
