Sakurai Testing, Testing Kid Icarus: Uprising's Online Features

Posted by James Newton

May have versus mode, may not. Who knows?

We didn't get chance to wrestle with Kid Icarus: Uprising at the 3DS event in London as the game's still being feverishly worked on behind the scenes, and a recent interview with GamesMaster Magazine reveals the game's online modes are still taking shape.

Masahiro Sakurai: The online capabilities are currently being tested. There could be some versus play but we can't go into the detail. As far as going forward, there are lot of capabilities that expand on what was in the DS that people are taking advantage of.

A typically cryptic answer from a seasoned Nintendo developer, particularly the tease that the machine's expanded capabilities will feature more heavily going forward, but we'd expect nothing less from the new console.

Online multiplayer is always a good thing to have especially in a game that looks a lot like Star Fox.

I hope it doesn't lag like Sakurai's other Wi-Fi-enabled game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Either way, multiplayer Kid Icarus sounds like a blast!

Part of me is really exciting based on what they've done with the game, but part of me wishes instead that this was a new Kid Icarus Side Scroller. Instead it looks like Kid Icarus fuised with StarFox :p

Pit vs. Pit battles would be the most epic thing since Little Mac vs. Little Mac! Please, Sakurai, make it so! :)

Seeing how the game is played, I think an online vs. mode would be very fun. Imagine taking to the skies and shooting down your opponents, or run around a town in a battle mode. It can be done. I wonder what the playable characters would be besides Pit? Multi-colored Pits?

Guess this isn't going to be done for the rumored October launch.

Sounds good. Hope it's a good proving ground for the 3DS's online fea... tures...

Wait a minute...

...Proving ground... proving grounds... Duke Nukem Proving Grounds... you... don't think it's being held off for the 3DS, do you? Perhaps as a 3DS swan song 8 years later? 0.o;;;

@Adam: Sakurai said as much, he said he wants it close to launch but it most likely won't be at launch.

Which seems weird considering it's the flagship title.
