Copter no longer necessary

Those MySims sure do get into some scrapes, and their latest adventure MySims SkyHeroes is set to debut on Wii and DS. According to Scott Evans, General Manager of the The Sims Studio:

We are thrilled to have many firsts with MySims SkyHeroes, like introducing epic boss battles, cooperative gameplay missions and online multiplayer, all available for the very first time in any MySims game.

According to the press release, which you can read in full at the bottom of this story, players will face off against the evil Morcubus and his army of drone soldiers while upgrading and fine-tuning their aircraft. Interestingly, the game's information page over at GamesPress lists it for a DSiWare release, though we're awaiting confirmation of this from EA.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif — May 5, 2010 — The thrill and high-speed action of flying meets the creative, immersive world of MySims™. The EA Play Label of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced MySims SkyHeroes™, a new flying action-adventure and the next installment from the MySims franchise is in development for Wii™, Nintendo DS™, and for the first time, the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

“MySims games have truly become favorites among kids, families and gamers alike, so we have challenged ourselves to take development to the next level and deliver a new style of adventure for fans with game features and MySims-style fun that can be enjoyed equally by all,” said Scott Evans, General Manager of the The Sims Studio. “We are thrilled to have many firsts with MySims SkyHeroes, like introducing epic boss battles, cooperative gameplay missions and online multiplayer, all available for the very first time in any MySims game.”

In MySims SkyHeroes, players take to the sky to lead the resistance against Morcubus and his drone army and to stop his plans to take over the skyways. Starting as an unknown pilot, players fight to become a celebrated hero as they defeat dangerous enemies in aerial combat, test their reflexes in fast-paced speed challenges, and take on massive enemy bosses that demand all their skills as a pilot to survive. As they progress, players build, customize and tune their aircraft to give them an edge in combat – upgrade wings for swifter maneuvers, switch out the engine for a speed boost, or change the paint job to camouflage the plane and avoid enemy fire.

The popular MySims franchise, which has sold over 8 million units worldwide, will debut for the first time on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with MySims SkyHeroes. Expanding to these new platforms, the game will feature a full solo campaign, as well as local split-screen and online multiplayer where fans will be able to fly with or against up to 10 friends in - cooperative or competitive modes.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this turns out... even if I knew this was coming beforehand.

I love the MySims series, and I am really looking forward to this. It looks like a follow up to MySims Agents with Morcubus and all.

Agents was the only MySims game I truly enjoyed. Definitely check that one out if you're at all interested in the series.

Morcubus is always up to no good in the MySims games. I think he was in MySims Racing and MySims Kingdom as well.

Yeah, Morcubus was in MySims Kingdom and MySims Racing beside MySims Agents. I don't know if he was in the original MySims as well.

I'm a bit of a MySims fan myself, so I'm kind of interested in this one. But a lot depends on how this game can capture the feel. I suppose the closest match would be MySims Racing, since that's also an action game. Unfortunately that isn't my favourite game in the series. (I don't know how MySims Party compares, since I've never played it.)

Regarding that video... I'm kind of torn between wanting to hear Simlish vs having the lines read out loud in an understandable language -- which makes more sense in this kind of game in the heat of the battle. I think I spotted at least some Simlish-like voices in the video, though, so perhaps that voiceover was only for the trailer... I don't know.
