Posted by Corbie Dillard
WiiWare helicopter sim is on its way.
Digital Leisure has just announced that their Copter Crisis WiiWare title will be coming to Europe on November 27th and North America on November 30th.
You can check out the official game description below for a taste of what you can expect from this unique helicopter title.
You're in the pilot seat now!
Copter Crisis puts you in the pilot’s seat! As a member of the elite Helicopter Rescue Squadron you’ll be assigned to respond to any type of emergency anywhere at anytime. As the most recent member joining this elite rescue squad, you’ll have to complete training missions and get yourself comfortable with the latest in helicopter rescue technology. Once the Captain thinks you’re ready, you’ll be tasked with executing rescue missions all around the Black Wolf Canyon.
Your Wii Remote™ becomes the control stick as you guide your copter along the canyons while avoiding falling rocks, severe weather conditions and even anti-aircraft fire! You’ll be charged with rescuing lost hikers, delivering supplies to remote areas, assisting on scientific missions and even blasting your way into hidden underground cavern systems. Complete all of your objectives and rise through the ranks to take on the toughest of rescues.
Features:
- Over 30 Exciting Missions
- Up to 10 additional military copters via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection Pay & Play
We'll have more information on Copter Crisis as it becomes available, as well as a full review of the game when it hits the WiiWare service the end of this month.

Oh good god this looks abysmal. Is the entire game that horrifically plain canyon? Oh, it's by Digital Leisure. That's a yes, then.

Yeah, the graphics look bad. If the gameplay and controls are ok, I'll be in. I'll just take it as a "N64 inspired" game or something, lol..... This has been on my radar and I will require a review.

Just don't buy it. lol I feel sympathy for developers that clearly have tight budgets and probably...2 people working on a game.

@DigitalLeisure: You stated before that this game will have additional copters as DLC, is this still planned for the game?
#18
DigitalLeisure said:
@WolfRamHeart - Yup, the game will have 10 additional military style copters that you will be able to purchase through the game’s DLC menu. Each of these helicopters have unique features such as extra hull plating or the ability to do loops allowing you to double back on missed landing zones. The copters will be available at the launch of the game and will cost 100 Nintendo Points each.

Yeah, I noticed that too! The font makes it go for a more arcade feel. Hopefully it'll do well!

@DigitalLeisure: you've got a lot of skeptical people on this site alone... i'm not familiar with any of your previous work, and this actually looks like it could be good to me, so i'm very open minded to the possibilities at this point... but i admit that even i'm iffy, just based on what i know. you better do a LOT of testing and make sure the controls and overall quality are TOP-NOTCH, or this will fail. just be prepared that that's what will happen if it's not spot-on in the QA department. and take a hint from ghostfire games... take your time.

I remember an arcade game many years back that looked like this that was a blast. It had two players sitting in pods next to each other, and you'd essentially fly through canyons and hunt each other down. It had machine guns and a lock-on missle. when you hit each other with fire, something would ram into the back of your seat until you were downed and then the whole seat would wiggle all over. It was great fun, and there were stealth power ups where you could disappear on the others' radar. I don't remember the name but the 2-p battles really made it. This kind of dogfighting could make it really fun but solo? It would have to be really great not to get panned. I don't mind bad graphics as long as the basic 3-d is there, but the vs fighting has to be included or it will be all fail.
Ah-ha! I found some info! Steel Talons! oh, the memories. If you can steal a few bits from that game, and even slightly upgrade the graphics, I'm there.

Apart from that horrible canyon texture (which is really horrible), I like the look of it. DLC is fair too.

Looks a bit tooooo much like an amateur Homebrew game for me personally.

The graphics just aren't doing it for me on this game so more than likely I am going to pass on it.
