Top 20 DSiWare Games in USA (20th Aug)

Posted by Corbie Dillard

It's Thursday and time for our DSiWare Top 20!

It's time to take a look at the most popular DSiWare titles available on the DSi Shop. If you're feeling adventurous you can even take a look for yourself by simply logging on to the DSi Shop, heading into the DSiWare section and then viewing by "Popular Games". It's that easy!

We compile this list using the USA region DSi Shop, so if you live elsewhere your list will probably be quite a bit different. Please feel free to post your region's findings below as always.

Keep in mind that the list below is based on the total number of downloads made recently, not an overall total of downloads since the game's original release.

Here is the list for the 20th of August:

1 (2) - Flipnote Studio
2 (1) - Nintendo DSi Browser
3 (3) - Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again
4 (5) - Paper Airplane Chase
5 (4) - Asphalt 4: Elite Racing
6 (7) - Bird & Beans
7 (6) - WarioWare: Snapped!
8 (N) - Guitar Rock Tour
9 (8) - Dr. Mario Express
10 (11) - Master of Illusion Express: Deep Psyche
11 (9) - Sudoku Student
12 (10) - Art Style: precipice
13 (12) - Mario Clock
14 (13) - Mario Calculator
15 (14) - Photo Clock
16 (16) - Art Style: BOXLIFE
17 (-) - Brain Age: Arts & Letters
18 (17) - American Popstar: Road to Celebrity
19 (15) - Brain Challenge
20 (19) - Master of Illusion Express: Funny Face

* (N) - Denotes a brand new entry in the Top 20
* (-) - Denotes a game that was not on the Top 20 last week

While it's certainly not a surprise given its fast rise onto the Top 20 last week in less than 24 hours of release, Flipnote Studio has now moved up into the top spot and might not be leaving it any time soon. Of course this dropped the ever-popular Nintendo DSi Browser down to the #2 spot for now. It's not likely to drop any further any time soon though.

The big climber this week was Brain Age: Arts & Letters, which jumped up from off the chart completely, all the way up to #17. The big dropper this week was Brain Challenge, which fell four spots to #19. Could this one be on its way off the chart completely?

Due to two new entries in the Top 20 we had to watch two titles drop off the chart this week. Art Style: ZENGAGE and Clubhouse Games Express: Card Classics both dropped off the chart, but there's always a chance we'll see them pop back up in the future.

Hooray for downloading apps just because they're free! I don't think I would have bought flipnote, but it's fun to play around with a bit. Glad it's #1 b/c it deserves it. I'll be impressed if a paid app or game is ever #1.

I love Flipnote.

@TokenGirl, I think Nintendos strategy is to entice people onto the DSi Shop with the free 1000 points, and free DSiWare Apps, so they might accidently come across a game that takes their fancy and go back on and spend some moneyz.

Yeah. This is one of the reasons I hate NIntendo's online system.
There's only one ranking and it's based on downloads, so quality is no factor in this.
There really needs to be more charts. A user based "review" chart you vote from 1-10 the value of a game you download if you want.
A hype chart. A user ranked system on games that excite them the most that they haven't downloaded.
Also possibly a paid chart, where companies can pay to be in the top 20.

I always found Nintendo's system to be deeply flawed, because how are people suppose to find the good games in a sea of crap when there's nothing telling you what's good or not, and the main break down is based on price?

Flipnote deserves that #1 spot. I've put a ridiculous amount of hours on my DSi in the last week.

Continued sad face for MFC and Pictobits.

I'll be picking up the Brain Age Express: A & L in the near future. Make some room on the charts for Pop Plus Solo

the title deserves the first place throne! You say its madness due to it being free? This is not madness! THIS IS FLIPNOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wasn´t the big climber this week Guitar Rock Tour, which jumped from off the chart, up to #8? Instead of Brain Age: Arts & Letters which only jumped up from off the chart, up to #17
