Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (1st July)

Posted by Corbie Dillard

It's Wednesday again and time for the WiiWare Top 20!

It's time to take a look at the most popular WiiWare titles available on the Wii Shop Channel. If you're feeling adventurous you can even take a look for yourself by simply logging on to your Wii Shop Channel, heading into the WiiWare section and then viewing "Popular Games". It's that easy!

We compile this list using the USA region Wii Shop channel, so if you live elsewhere your list will probably be quite a bit different. Please feel free to post your region's findings below as always.

Keep in mind that the list below is a measure of actual sales made recently, not of the total time the game has been available for sale.

Here is the list for the 1st of July:

1 (1) - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
2 (2) - Texas Hold'em Tournament
3 (3) - My Aquarium
4 (4) - World of Goo
5 (6) - Tetris Party
6 (7) - My Pokémon Ranch
7 (-) - Family Mini Golf
8 (5) - Swords & Soldiers
9 (9) - Dr Mario Online Rx
10 (10) - Defend Your Castle
11 (11) - Eduardo the Samurai Toaster
12 (8) - Bubble Bobble Plus
13 (12) - Onslaught
14 (13) - Cue Sports - Pool Revolution
15 (14) - Fun! Fun! Minigolf
16 (N) - Water Warfare
17 (17) - Bomberman Blast
18 (15) - Brain Challenge
19 (16) - Sandy Beach
20 (19) - Mega Man 9

* (N) - Denotes a brand new entry on the Top 20
* (-) - Denotes a game that was not on the Top 20 last week

The top four games remain unchanged from last week's chart, with Final Fantasy IV: The After Years still holding strong at #1. Of course we also saw Hudson's Water Warfare pop in at #16 during its first week of release. Could this be the next #1 WiiWare game in the making? It certainly doesn't look like Swords & Soldiers will make it to #1, considering it's already on its way down the chart.

The big climber this week was Family Mini Golf, which shot up from off the chart completely, all the way up to #7. The big dropper this week was Bubble Bobble Plus, which fell four spots to #12.

Well after holding a spot on the Top 20 since its release on day one of the WiiWare service, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King has finally dropped off the chart. Of course it took Hudson's Adventure Island: The Beginning with it. And judging from the looks of it, Mega Man 9 may very well be on its way off the chart again.

From what I have played with Water Warfare; it deserves to be higher, but I am not surprised with its current placement. Why I say that? The fact the only time I had more than two people to play with on online multiplayer was from our own NintendoLife members while trying to get in a game "Worldwide" fails to see at least one person at most. Sigh, I doubt WW will be the next #1 game, but I do think it is under appreciated, but I hope I am wrong.

Snowboard Riot making a return in the dead of summer? Ironic but kinda logical I guess...

I'm surprised to see Eduardo The Samurai Toaster still holding on to that 11th spot but probably not for long. I expect Water Warfare to make big jump next week. Can somebody please tell me why My Aquarium is still on here?

I should note that, coming to this week, Eduardo actually went in the Top 10, but it was pushed down again by others just before now.

poor megaman is close to leaving top 20 i am shocked that swords and soldiers is doing so bad but i guess that at this time no game can compete with ff4 this should show square that wii owners need more classic rpgs

Water Warfare is awesome. It's a must-have if you like shooters or multiplayer.

I'm glad to see that Snowboard Riot is selling because it could really use some more players.

After all this time Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King is off the list. Hopefully it will make it back up.

@WolfRamHeart My Aquarium is cheap and pretty interesting. I have it and enjoy harassing fish and setting up new tanks. It's a decent screen saver that doesn't require a disc, so your drive isn't getting used.

Haven't checked this in a while. Amazing to see how many older WW titles are still holding their own.

Goodbye: Bubble Bobble Plus!, The Incredible Maze, FUN! FUN! Minigolf and Cocoto Platform Jumper.

My Life as a King is finally off?! Whoa....
Family Mini Golf is doing well as expected.
Also, Sandy Beach is STILL going on strong! Is there something about this title that's actually... y'know... good?

the NA launch titles have had some incredible runs. It seems theres a limit to how much Final Fantasy buyers will put up with though

Little late saying this, but... Thank GOD something managed to knock WoG and Tetris Party out of the top 3!

I don't know about Water Warfare's player numbers, while I can't get a match goiong in most modes when I set it to Battle Royal the numbers shoot up almost immediately with 4 players being fairly low already and many matches going higher.

(2) 1 NyxQuest
(1) 2 My Aquarium
(3) 3 Texas Hold'em Tournament
(-) 4 Water Warfare
(4) 5 World of Goo
(9) 6 My Pokemon Ranch
(6) 7 Fun Fun Minigolf
(8) 8 TV Show King
(7) 9 Onslaught
(10) 10 Swords & Soldiers
(5) 11 FF4 The After Years
(-) 12 Puzzle Bobble Plus
(12) 13 Bomberman Blast
(13) 14 Tetris Party
(14) 15 Brain Challenge
(20) 16 Let's Catch
(11) 17 Cocoto Platform Jumper
(15) 18 Pop-Up Pirate
(16) 19 Snowboard Riot
(19) 20 Equilibrio

S&S seems to have settled in at #10, doesn't look like it'll do a fast dive off the charts. FF4 is still diving, no idea where it'll settle. Water Warfare comes in at #4 but keep in mind games have more time to sell in Europe between the release and chart snapshot. NyxQuest managed to displace My Aquarium, let's see for how long.
This week's goners are Bubble Bobble Plus and SAMEGAME.

@Chibi Link
No, you guys have it. I've visited the Aussie store and yeah, there it was alright. Can't go there right now since I've got left over points that I don't wanna lose but yeah, last time I checked it was there. Can't imagine them removing it, sounds counterproductive.

I'm surprised FFIV:TAY has been on top so long. Are that many WiiWare owners old-school RPG fans?
