Top 20 DSiWare Games in USA (16th July)

Posted by Corbie Dillard

It's Thursday and time for our DSiWare Top 20!

It's time to take a look at the most popular DSiWare titles available on the DSi Shop. If you're feeling adventurous you can even take a look for yourself by simply logging on to the DSi Shop, heading into the DSiWare section and then viewing by "Popular Games". It's that easy!

We compile this list using the USA region DSi Shop, so if you live elsewhere your list will probably be quite a bit different. Please feel free to post your region's findings below as always.

Keep in mind that the list below is based on the total number of downloads made recently, not an overall total of downloads since the game's original release.

Here is the list for the 16th of July:

1 (1) - Nintendo DSi Browser
2 (2) - Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again
3 (9) - Asphalt 4: Elite Racing
4 (3) - Paper Airplane Chase
5 (5) - Bird & Beans
6 (6) - WarioWare: Snapped!
7 (7) - Dr. Mario Express
8 (4) - Art Style: BOXLIFE
9 (11) - Sudoku Master
10 (10) - Mario Clock
11 (8) - Mario Calculator
12 (12) - Master of Illusion Express: Deep Psyche
13 (13) - Photo Clock
14 (14) - American Popstar: Road to Celebrity
15 (-) - Art Style: CODE
16 (15) - Real Soccer 2009
17 (16) - Clubhouse Games Express: Card Classics
18 (18) - Master of Illusion Express: Funny Face
19 (17) - Brain Age Express: Math
20 (-) - Master of Illusion Express: Shuffle Games

* (N) - Denotes a brand new entry in the Top 20
* (-) - Denotes a game that was not on the Top 20 last week

The Nintendo DSi Browser and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again are hanging in tight at #1 and #2, but now they're joined by last week's big mover Asphalt 4: Elite Racing coming in at #3.

The big climber this week was Asphalt 4: Elite Racing which once again rocketed up the Top 20, all the way up to #3 this week. The big dropper was Art Style: BOXLIFE, which fell four spots to #8.

Well it's a sad day, as Mighty Flip Champs and Art Style: PICTOBITS have both dropped off the Top 20 this week. A quick end to a couple of very solid DSiWare titles. Replacing them was the re-appearance of Master of Illusion Express: Shuffle Games at #20.

This is terrible MFC should be up there as well as PictoBits.... How Sad...

Asphalt 4 deserves its rank. It's a wonderful DSiWare game that all publishers and game creators should follow.

Nice to see Asphalt 4 shoot up there. I'd love a DSiWare or even better a WiiWare sequel.

It's a real shame MFC fell off, but I'm surprised Pictobits had almost no staying power. I thought for sure the recognition factor (the classic sprites) would keep it in there for a long time.

I bought a DSi recently, and actually contributed to the sales of the 2 art style games!

new DS game friend codes to be up in the forums soon

This is so sad. MFC and Pictobits fell off the chart in favor of a MASTER OF ILLUSION EXPRESS "game". Not to mention the damn Mario Apps are still high. And WarioWare: Snapped should have fallen of the chart a long time ago.
A perfect example of a retarded moron or a four-year-old buying games from the DSi Shop:
sees MFC "Oh, that game looks soooo boring just because I don't know who the f*** that is on the screen, it looks like such a terrible game the graphics suck I won't buy that."
sees a Master of Illusion Express "Oh, a magic game! It looks sooooo fun and it looks like it will be a long game too and not a little minigame like Flip Champs. I'll buy it!"
sees a Mario App "OMG, a calculator/clock with Mario in it! this is an awesome game. I'll buy it!"
...all done in a weird voice.
But seriously. This is the kind of thing that bugs me to no end.
And before someone asks, "Then why are you even viewing the list?", I'll say that I'm happy that M vs. DK 2: MMA and Asphalt 4 are still high.

WHAT!? Both MFC and PiCTOBits are awesome games, and they both got the shaft! DANG!!
@SUPERZELDAMAN-Mighty Flip Champs! is on the best DSiWare games ever. You should download it immeditely.

Well with all the positive reviews I just might try Might Flip Champs out myself.

MFC is great! But the list is obviously still being impacted by new DSis with free points packages. People are obviously grabbing one big game (e.g. M vs DK, Asphalt4, WarioWare Snapped) then grabbing a cheap 200 point game to use up the rest of their points. (Paper Airplane, Birds & Beans, Mario Clock/Calculator, etc.)

MFC just doesn't rate high enough on people's "big item" list compared to the MvDK, Asphalt, and WarioWare. Which is perfectly understandable, but still sucks. It's a perfect storm for killing a great game.

im happy birds and beans and paper airplane chase are still top
(they are the best games)

It boggles my mind that MFC dropped off the charts. I thought DSi owners would eat this one up with it's colorful graphics, cute characters, and old-school gameplay.

@Tony, #23: It shouldn't boggle your mind. Most of the people who buy anything from the DSi Shop are either retards or four-year-olds.

Mixed Messages was a HUMONGOUS RIP-OFF!!!! You could do pretty much the exact same thing on Pictochat or, dare i say it, pencil and paper. I'm so glad that was not on this list. I noticed someone said it was gone. Does that mean they discontinued it?

Dang it people....Finally get great games on DSiWare and you people keep on downloading the freaking Shovelware. I just do NOT understand it.

Regarding PictoBits and MFC: That stinks! Ready for brief laugh?

I had downloaded PictoBits last week and forgot about it because I placed it at the leftmost end of my DSi Menu. I was shuffling through my menu three days ago while waiting for my bus and saw the icon and thought "wait a minute, you're not Aquias...PictoBits...what the heck? Wait a minute! I bought that game?" Then I started playing it and almost let the bus race right past me. It's awesome!

Asphalt 4 does deserve to be on the list, it's too bad that A5 is going to appear on the iPhone/iPod touch. And I'm guessing the reason for all of the shovelware is due to the software being cheap ($2.00 USD?) and either the amount of new DSi owners being too old or too young to discern which games are quality and which aren't.

Wow.... PiCTOBiTS and Mighty Flip Champs! are out of contention....
I'm still shocked that those calculator/clock hybrids are still surviving!
Glad that 3 of the 4 DSiWare titles I downloaded are in the top 5 (DSi Browser, Asphalt 4 and Mario vs DK: MMA!), WarioWare.... I only use it to show off and to get my friends interested in the DSi.....
Oh well, July 27, I predict (correctly) Art Style: KUBOS!!!
Then August 3rd.... FLIPNOTE STUDIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
