Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (27th May)

Posted by Corbie Dillard

It's Wednesday again and time for the WiiWare Top 20!

It's time to take a look at the most popular WiiWare titles available on the Wii Shop Channel. If you're feeling adventurous you can even take a look for yourself by simply logging on to your Wii Shop Channel, heading into the WiiWare section and then viewing "Popular Games". It's that easy!

We compile this list using the USA region Wii Shop channel, so if you live elsewhere your list will probably be quite a bit different. Please feel free to post your region's findings below as always.

Keep in mind that the list below is a measure of actual sales made recently, not of the total time the game has been available for sale.

Here is the list for the 27th of May:

1 (1) - World of Goo
2 (2) - My Aquarium
3 (3) - Tetris Party
4 (4) - My Pokémon Ranch
5 (5) - Dr Mario Online Rx
6 (6) - Defend Your Castle
7 (8) - Onslaught
8 (9) - Fun! Fun! Minigolf
9 (N) - Bubble Bobble Plus
10 (7) - Cue Sports - Pool Revolution
11 (11) - Brain Challenge
12 (12) - BIT.TRIP BEAT
13 (14) - Mega Man 9
14 (13) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
15 (--) - Crystal Defenders R2
16 (--) - Silver Star Chess
17 (16) - Sandy Beach
18 (15) - Bomberman Blast
19 (18) - Wild West Guns
20 (17) - Target Toss Pro: Bags

* (N) - Denotes a brand new entry on the Top 20
* (--) - Denotes a game that was not on the Top 20 last week

The Fabulous Five has now turned into the Super Six as the top six WiiWare titles remain unchanged from a week ago. It's hard to believe that Defend Your Castle was a WiiWare launch title and still has itself entrenched in the top 10.

The big climber this week is obviously Bubble Bobble Plus. It is one of those few games that manages to crack the Top 20 during its week of release, and it even managed to break into the top 10 coming in at #9. That's easily one of the most impressive WiiWare debuts in the history of the service. The big dropper this week was Crystal Defenders R1 which fell from #10 all the way off the Top 20 completely in one week's time.

We also saw two new entries this week with Crystal Defenders R2 coming in at #15 and Silver Star Chess coming it at #16. But with new entries comes the dropping off of other titles. This week we lost Crystal Defenders R1, Midnight Bowling, and Pop'Em Drop'Em SAMEGAME.

The evolution of the Fab Five?!?! And is it possible that NL will run out of WOG pics before WOG leaves the No.1 spot??

Megumi said:

lol WOG, love that game. When are they planning on giving us updates anyways? I do hope they give us the level editor too...but somehow I doubt that will happen.

As for Canada's highlights, Family Pirate Party is 18th, Silver Star Chess is 20th just below Same Game and Crystal Defenders R2 is growing strong. Cue Sports is back on our charts as well and I don't recall how well BB+ is doing. Hopefully someone will post the Canadian charts.

Also, Majora's Mask is now #1 for Canada already!

I'm very glad for Bit.Trip: Beat. I was nervous about how it would be received by the WiiWare community, but it looks like they're doing great. Many happy returns, guys.

Down: My Aquarium, for now. Equilibrio & Tetris Party down 5 each.
Hello: My Life As A King, again. Crystal Defenders R2 and Penguins & Friends fail to make a dent in the chart.
Goodbye: LostWinds. You'll probably come crawling back...

@Rum Rapture
TIM is STILL ranking over there?! What's wrong with your countrymen! Jeez... And Pop-Up Pirate in 6th is rather perplexing aswell...

Wow no Adventure Island, ouch!

It's amazing that Defend Your Castle has held on so strong for over a year. It just shows that a cheap price point and accessible gameplay is a winning combo.

Super Six? Seriously Corbie? Those six haven't been in those spots long enough to get there own title. Though one does ponder if there is actually anyone left in the world who "hasn't* bought WoG.

@Corbie: Don't you always

World of Goo is on the only place it belongs to, I hope it stays there for many months to come.

Anyway, nothing much happens in a week so maybe it's time to do this update every two weeks. This really isn't interesting enough to see each week. :s

Twelve of the twenty games changed places, we had three brand new entires, one in its first week of release, and three games dropped off the charts completely. I think that's enough change to warrant the Top 20 each week.

Curt said:

You're going to have to run out of World of Goo pics sometime.

@ Chicken Brutus! Thanks for the vibes! I hope you like CORE as much as BEAT!

@ Corbie, we over here at GG love these lists. Keep 'em coming!

Not a surprise for me that Bomberman is still on 2nd, it's a popular game here.

its great to see bubble bobble plus at 9 i hope it stays in the top 10 longer and megaman went up a number but its to bad that adventure island didn't crack in the top 20

(-) 19 Bubble Bobble Plus
(17) 20 Crystal Defenders R1

Wow, the whole top 10 (and 11) are unchanged from last week, Swords & Soldiers isn't moving from the top spot. Hey, That's My Fish failed to rank, Bubble Bobble Plus is back with a vengeance as Rainbow Islands dropped from 14 off the charts. Adventure Island made room for CD R2 and the biggest dropper that still remained in the charts was Bit Trip Beat.

Crazed said:

@Sean- What is Asobu Made in Ore? It's been tops on the Japanese charts for quite some time.

Also, congrats to BB+, CD R2, and SS Chess for making it in the top 20! I need to get some points for BB+.

Oh, and I doubt NL will ever run out of pics for WoG. With so many levels and options, I doubt it'll ever be an issue (although Corbie's TV is sweet.)

In the hottest WiiWare update of the year, two games did extremely well: Adventure Island: The Beginning was at #10 and Bubble Bobble Plus! broke into the "Big Three"' sitting at #3, after My Aquarium sat there for so long! Now the question is: Can the game go up any further?

The biggest dropper this week was Crystal Defenders R1 which fell 12 spots.

@Crazed, it's the Wii component of the roll your own Wario Ware DS game; it appears to allow you to play Wario Ware games you've created on the DS version after uploading them from your DSi and it's also implied you'll be able to download other mini-games direct from Nintendo.

I'm also impressed with how long it's stayed at number one; I'm more impressed that Pole's Big Adventure is still in the top 5 (I think Ms. Yamaguchi's recent videos are helping keep that alive).

Crunc said:

Does anyone know if Bit.Trip.Beat has been updated to fix the saving bug? Do they ever update games? I really want that game, but not the broken US version.

Sean_Aaron said:

Yes games do get updated; I think only Commander Video (or someone who has the game and has redownloaded it) can confirm if the NA version of Bit.Trip BEAT has received the same fix as the PAL and JPN systems have.

XGen said:

Thanks so much to everyone who's played or is still playing Defend Your Castle! We owe it all to you!

Also, Defend Your Castle was released on iPhone & iPod Touch about a month ago so be sure to check that out if it interests you! It's currently on-sale for 50%-off at only 99 cents! We've made some nice additions to the game there, so even if you're well-versed in the WiiWare version, you'll find some pleasant surprises! /shameless_plug

XGen How pleased are you with the sales of DYC on Wiiware? Any plans for a DSi ware version?
