NPD Sales Results for March 2009 - Software/Hardware

Posted by Stuart Reddick

With plenty of blockbuster hits released in March, which games managed to come out on top?

Hardware Sales

Nintendo Wii - 601K
Nintendo DS - 563K
Xbox 360 - 330K
PlayStation 3 - 218K
PSP - 168K
PlayStation 2 - 112K

Software Sales

Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360) - 938K
Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo DS) 805K
Halo Wars (Xbox 360) - 639K
Resident Evil 5 (Playstation 3) - 585K
Wii Fit (Nintendo Wii) - 541K
MLB ‘09: The Show (Playstation 3) - 305K
Killzone 2 ((Playstation 3) - 296K
Wii Play (Nintendo Wii) - 281K
Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo Wii) - 278K
MLB 2K9 (Xbox 360) - 205K

Just by taking a quick glance at the software sales, it isn't difficult to tell that March was a huge month for blockbuster hits: Pokemon Platinum, Resident Evil 4, Halo Wars, etc. Even with those hits though, evergreen titles such as Wii Fit, Wii Play, and Mario Kart Wii managed to stick around for another month.

On the hardware side of things, everything seems to be down from last year paritally because of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was released last March, and Easter also fell in March last year. With that being said, next month may see hardware numbers up due to the launch of the Nintendo DSi and the Easter season.
