Red Steel was one of the Wii’s first real disappointments – it promised so much, yet ultimately failed to deliver. However, the potential was there and that’s why we’ve been pretty keen to see the sequel.
Surprisingly, the version of Red Steel 2 that we’ll eventually be getting is one of two editions that Ubisoft has been working on; the other (developed by Ubisoft Montréal) was apparently cancelled in 2007 due to concerns about its overall quality. Ubisoft Paris are now working on the version that will be hitting shop shelves at some point soon.
Unseen64 has some artwork from the aborted game that shows that it was somewhat fantastical, with floating platforms and dream-like levels. It could have been pretty interesting, but I guess we’ll never know now.

Urgh I got Red Steel on launch and hated it, playing it was like walking around holding a gun with your arm selotaped to your head! It's just as well that they don't release a follow-up methinks.
soo, kinda NiGHTS: JOD like levels with a shooter aspect...
would have been a great game
I really need to open my launch copy of Red Steel sometime soon...
I got Red Steel on launch day and I didn't even play more than 20 minutes of it, but it wasn't a waste as my friend beat it. Although I am sadden by the sequel being canned, but if it's not good then I am all for it being canned.
Red Steel 2 hasn't been canned - there were two versions in development and one of them was cancelled. There'll still be another Red Steel, which is good as I quite liked the original, despite all its problems - cutscenes, zooming, swordplay, dodgy graphics etc.
