Enduro Racer is Sega's attempt at porting the arcade game with the same name. Apparently they didn't manage, though, as the Master System version is totally different and plays more like an isometric version of Excitebike! The game is mildly entertaining for a few minutes, but the lack of any real features makes it one to avoid, unless of course you hold some nostalgia for it.
Yet another one game week! On WiiWare today you can grab Strong Bad Episode 5: 8-Bit Is Enough and Big Kahuna Party.

I hate Nintendo of America. gives double middle-fingers
I'm literally about an inch away from abandoning the Virtual Console for good. Since the VC's current mission consists solely of pissing off fans week after week, I don't feel like being a victim much longer. They know damned well how to make fans happy - they've been selling videogames for almost 30 YEARS. They're just being jerks. And they deserve to suffer, not us.
Bad! I hope we don't get this for Christmas in Europe. Stay away, crappy game!
...ouch! o_o
At least you got Strong Bad episode 5...
This sucks hard.
............................................................................... im speechless
Another 1 game week except this week is a worse update than last week. I doubt people are going to get excited this update.
Well at least it is a racing game. Too bad that it is not a very good one, and that we only got one game this week.
Tony's Christmas List
Dear Santa,
This year for Christmas I would like:
1. Castlevania 3 on the Virtual Console
2. Castlevania 3 on the Virtual Console
3. Castlevania 3 on the Virtual Console
4. Castlevania 3 on the Virtual Console
5. Maybe some new socks or something
PS- My Christmas wish is that Nintendo would quit being so medicore.
@ Tony
I know the perfect way to get Castlevania 3 - tell Nintendo that you DON'T want it. That way, it's guaranteed to appear, considering Nintendo's pathetic relationship with its fans lately!
I wouldn't hold my breath on the "Nintendo would quit being so mediocre" wish, because impossible wishes are the most painful of all.
yeah seriously. what's up with the lack of castlevania 3 in north america.
I've spent well over a couple hundred bells on the VC, most of which for games that I've already had at some point. To be smacked in the face like this for what now, four weeks in a row? Ridiculous.
Now I use a healthy combo of HDMI from my laptop to my Tv, Glovepie, my Wiimote and Classic Controller, and various roms and emulators to get my nostalgic needs.
I understand the need to "space things out" for marketing reasons or whatever, but this is getting stupid.
I sure hope Nintendo never brings that horrible, awful, terrible game Castlevania 3 to the Virtual Console. I hate the game with a thousands degrees of hate. (fingers crossed that this works Dead Battery)
At least I hope Mercs and Clayfighter show up this month. I would not mind playing them again.
Us europeans are holding Castlevania III hostage untill we at least get Secret of Mana or Mario Golf 64.
Eww... Is it me or my Christmas stocking smells like somebody crapped in it?
Only one week left before Christmas, and I doubt things will suddenly change for the best. I don't think we should expect anything better for next week.
For all it's worth, I'm beginning to think I might as well just forget VC for the next 6 months, so maybe when I get back, I may have 2-3 great games to get...
Total disappointment, but is it really a surprise?
Once again, I don't think I'll step in and say the week was good despite the VC release because this time it really isn't. Unless you like SBCG4AP, you might be screwed for this week. Bummer.
Although I'm not betting anything, I predict we may get Castlevania 3 and Phantasy Star IV and Europe will get Mario Golf 64 and Secret of Mana...or at least hopefully.
I can just imagine the moron who checks Nintendo of America's email...
"Let's see... 408,920 requests for Castlevania 3, and zero for Enduro Racer... aw yeah, I think we know what to release!"
Awful update for you guys,
the vc seems to be getting worse treatment by the week they better improve the service over christmas as a lot of people are not impressed.
You know what...at least there are good games. It's not like there's a total lack of good games, it's just some games aren't on there yet.
I understand the need to "space things out" for marketing reasons or whatever, but this is getting stupid.
I believe that part of the reason they space things out is because they NEED to space things out.
Since March, Ive been under the impression that Nintendo just doesnt have the same amount of games in their queue anymore as they have in the past. Which is part of the reason why they HAVE to release 1 or 2 games now. If it were 3 we'd probably have a few gap weeks of nothing. Its basically a measure to both allow for more time to get games from other companies and prevent the Nothing Week.
Contender for worst VC week ever (I'm not counting the WiiWare yet as Strongbad 5 should have nothing fundementally wrong and the other title all we have is a blurb and 4 minute screenshots)
@ deadbattery - I gave up on it months ago. I have my own VC Release every Monday. I break out my classic systems and a cartridge. I haven't purchased a VC game in ages;that's how I'm voting on Nintendo's complete contempt for the VC gamer. They don't get my money anymore. For that matter, the Wiiware releases have been by and large complete to moderate crap. Add to that the complete lack of any Wii software releases of substance from Nintendo and you can see that they are no longer interested in games, just in taking our money. Which is fine, if you're offering good or great games in exchange for said money.
So fire up your classic systems and vote! Let Nintendo know they still have to answer to the consumer. Am I delusional enough to think they'll notice or care? Yeah, right. This is the company that refused to admit their mistakes with the N64 and the Cube. It just feels good to walk the walk, while talking the talk. I figure, if you're going to complain, do it with your actions... and your money.
Wow...I had a feeling Nintendo was going to screw us when I heard Strongbad was coming out today. Thanks a lot, Jackasses! When Mega Man 3 or Metal Slug 2 were the single game, you could say that at least those had a wide audience. Not this fossil, though.
Another great choice Nintendo. I tell you, the guy who picks the VC games every week should be promoted! I mean come on, there is an awful game that could be given to us like say Castlevania 3, but instead he gives a real gem like Enduro Racer instead! (sarcasam). Nintendo is run by a bunch of idiots.
I got sick of waiting for them to come out with games I want, so instead I bought a NES and just buy whatever games I want from my local game shop...
The s#!t really hit the fan today. The last VC game I bought was Secret of Mana a long while back soooo...it'll probly stay that way too.
I don't even know what to say to this. It's just WRONG, Nintendo! Maybe they are holding on to better releases for next week sinse that'll be our Christmas update, but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised to see another single mediocre game update yet again. It's getting old, and considering we've only been offered Animal Crossing and Wii Music from Nintendo this season, you'd think they'd offer up a bit of variety in their downloadable software to pick up the slack. This is officially the WORST holiday season for Nintendo that I can remember, and I've been playing for nearly 20 years now.
Vc owners finally get another racing game release on the vc. I have to say there are better racing games out there that haven't be released yet on the vc.
I own Enduro Racer for the sms. It is not one of the better games for the system.
Wow. When I saw this, I thought "Eh? Maybe this is one of those great games I never played, like River City Ransom or Sin and Punishment!"
Of course not!
This is exactly why I just went out and bought a Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and top loader NES. My wife and friends said, "Why do you need to buy these systems again when you can play all those games on the VC?" This is why, because of bullshi* like Enduro Racer. Now I can finally play Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, Tutles in Time and Super Punchout as God intended. Screw you VC, I'm going old school for real!
hands europeans Mario Golf 64 and Secret of Mana CASTLEVANIA III PLEASE!!!
not surprise , its nintendo of f****** america >_> sorry for swearing , nintendo is just getting more and more annoying.
Fair trade, Saki. And we'll also throw in Phantasy Star IV too.
I gotta hand it to them .. their marketing scheme worked... I bought the Wii for the nostalgia feeling of the old games I was promised to be able to download. Got a few gems, spent a couple hundred on VC games.
Now the games have sucked or been of no personal interest week after week, month after month. I've stopped having any hopes for the VC releases. Instead, I try to purchase the more expensive Wii games, so I have something to play on the system I was hoping would always be my little prize. I do, however, feel my loyalty to Nintendo slowly ebbing away.
Ha. I'm going to the old homestead for the holidays. I'm totally bringing my SNES back with me. It'll get more play than my wii!
Damn, was really hoping for M.U.S.H.A. today. You know, I figured this was a C64 game, never expected it to come to NA, otherwise I would've seen this coming.
There's still one more week until Christmas, and another before New Years, so there's still hope.
Even the commodre 64 version is better, it doesn't use the isometric view, uses a more traditionnal hang-on-like view from the rear. they should have put that one instead of the master system one.
I'm still glad I imported my Wii. (I live in UK but got it from Canada)
We may not have got a great game today but we have Secret of mana and Europe don't so that's good enough for me =p
I don't mind getting an obscure Master system game just pair it with something better like Life Force or Castlevania 3. I knew these one game weeks would end up being the norm one day.
I expect Nintendo will give us a lump of coal in our virtual stockings next week
wow....... thats all.
I can never understand the need to "space things out for marketing reasons" after all variety is the spice of life and releasing everything at once onto a huge library would be best for everyone, im no marketing genious but i know what i'd prefer and they would still make their money.
People will download titles if there available and that way your catering for everybody's tastes. I'd love to see the download figures for the likes of enduro racer to see if this strategy paid off because to me they seem to be just pissing off loyal fans who love V.C week after week by releasing crap titles one at a time.
I can never understand the need to "space things out for marketing reasons"
I think this means that they don't want to use up too many VC games too quickly right now in case they run out. Better one game a week than having to go without VC games completely for a few weeks, right? Maybe not to us because it makes no difference - we just get the games quicker but it will matter to Nintendo. Despite being a pretty crappy game and a lowly Master System game to boot, it will still be downloaded by people who don't know better with points to waste. Can't see them particularly enjoying it but with no refunds, Nintendo wins.
I just beat Castlevania 3 again last night on the actual NES console. So glad that i bought one.
I don't know about us, but I could totally see Europe getting "Coalminer" for C64 next week...
Seriously, this VC week SUCKS! It's so bad, nobody's even bothered to notice how we've got another SMS game already.
My vote is that nobody wants to support the VC anymore. They all released all their crap, and when it didn't sell, they "logically" decided that the VC doesn't sell, and never bothered to release their good stuff. How long has it been since Hudson dropped off the map for VC?
Well, I didn't expect much, but they still somehow managed to do worse than i expected...It almost feels like they should be complimented for excellent backstabbing...
The ONLY saving grace for the week as a whole is SBCG4AP. Wow, a good WiiWare game; SHOCKER! If next week's VC release sucks, I may not be able to contain my anger...I may turn into THIS: http://hulkcollection.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/hulk-stuff-6-091.jpg
That's right; Stuffedhulkgamer1. STUFFEDHULK MAD!!!!!
Well, Look on the bright side, This Months Strong Bad Episode is out, And Its more then likely that nintendo will suprise us on christmas week. Or give us another 1 game.
I wonder how long it will be until America gets one VC game every two weeks... alternating between WiiWare and VC games like Europe does. Hopefully never.
I say down with WiiWARE, it is because of that crap that ninty is only giving us one game, because they think that if they add 2 wiicrap games that they will have 3 games total showing up in the wiiware channel. They think that we want wiiware as much as vc games. And because of that they are limiting the number of games released to the channel each week, why you ask? prolly because they know people are filling thier channel space/hard drive with this crap and are happy to take thier money.
I would rather have 1 vc game then 10 wiiware games released...and sadly that is about what I am getting because of wiiware. Once wiiware really takes off they will probably just quit giving us VC games altogether.
DOWN WITH WIIWARE....GIVE US THE RETRO GAMES WE WANT...NES, SNES, N64...this is why I bought my wii, to play retro games all on one unit, not some 3rd party shovelware crap that is thrown at us each month.
Just my 2 cents...now let me get down off this high horse...lol And if you like wiiware...to bad...go buy a real game and leave the vc to the retro games
Looking at things in The US, I'm starting to feel glad NOE release VC and WiiWare games in separate weeks. Honestly, It's appalling for America at the moment. I REALLY hope NOA starts giving you guys good stuff again
@bass
I see your point but if you had them all to choose from you wouldn't care about no games every week because you'd have them at your disposal there and then.
I know this will never happen but it would be nice to have a set up like i tunes or something.
I know. But I was also saying Nintendo would think it bad for them doing it that way because then games like Enduro Racer wouldn't sell if several known good games were released the same week whereas now because there's a drought, Enduro Racer will still be downloaded. I think even if you do get some good weeks, there will be complaints when you get no VC games at all despite it working out at one game a week like it is now.
Hey Bass great idea. We'll give you guys in Europe Mario Golf and Secret of Mana if you guys give us Castlevania 3 and Phantasy Star 4. Not that Nintendo would ever do that, I expect a big lump of coal next week for Christmas.
coal if we're lucky, Mike
I know what your saying bass its pretty bad at the moment with one game weeks and all the complaints that follow.
It would be nice to see a few more snes games I can't believe there's nearly double the amount of mega drive titles on v.c compared to snes.
We're probably getting castlevania next week. If not I'm don't know what I'll think at that point until it happens.
Getting so close to x-mas there still doing this one vc game a week which is totally garbage. They should really start tring to make the wii shop costomers happy.
The reason Nintendo uproots piles of dog crap like this all the time, is because they're lazy. The argument that they don't have enough games to release from third parties is far from good enough, when the still have a huge stack of first party games (staring at Majora's Mask) to release. They also have Mother and Earthbound to release, Kirby's Fun Pak (Super Star for you Americans), and I think Dreamland 3.
Having the right to distribute II, III and IV, they should have the right to plain ol' Phantasy Star too, amirite?
And looking at that loooooong list of games under "Coming Soon" this site has, I'd imagine Ninty aren't short on games they have to release, it's just whether they can be bothered to upload them and write a short feature about them.
Maybe Nintendo should spend their time solving this trouble, rather than blocking homebrew, which actually has it's uses. Maybe a popular storage solution could be introduced, or they could work on their new games more, perhaps release more.
In short: Get to work Nintendo!
when the still have a huge stack of first party games
Thats also a case of Nintendo not wanting to run out of their own tricks too soon.
"I expect a big lump of coal next week for Christmas"
It's called Super Pitfall. Nintendo loves us so much right now I bet thats what we get.
benHULK getting ANGRY...lol
ok..ok I haven't downloaded since Earthworm Jim and that's only two months. I've gone longer, actually before August I didn't download anything since December of last year. Next week is my birthday week (its on the 21st) so I'm hoping to hell we get something on the 22nd. The way it looks though it just might be cake and a swift kick in the balls from the VC as my present.
@Tony: No it's Superman 64 and Super Pitfall next week. Then again thats two games, so actually just Superman 64.
The only good thing about Enduro Racer being released today is that it'll never happen again. Thank God it's the last Strong Bad game. Maybe now we can actually see some decent titles come out for WiiWare now that there's not going to be a Strong Bad every 2-3 weeks. Why don't they just give us all the Mega Man sequels like they're doing with Strong Bad? And we seriously need more N64 games put on the VC. That system has such an awesome catalogue of games. It's a shame that there's only a handful available.
@Bendover83
Great I have the urge to fly through endless amounts of rings with a time limit. And yes only 1 of those 2 releases are good enough for a Wii-kly update.
thats it.....TIME TO RAID NINTENDO'S OFFICES!
At least its another N64 game. Better than not getting any N64 games month after month....after month.
@64. Bendover83:
Yes, but it's probably (ie, most certainly) the worst N64 game released.
Shocker!!!
Hey... I'm getting a thought...
*enters trance-like state*
Its coming to me... I'm thinking that maybe we should fill our lives with other things than sitting around waiting for desirable Virtual Console games to appear on the shop and that they'll come when they're ready and also all this complaining gets us nowhere. Go outside, live your life fully, be happy and fulfilled. That is the true calling!
*leaves my trance-like state*
Hey, did I say something? I don't remember... meh, probably nothing. So do you think America will get Castlevania III next week or some crappy game?
I think one virtual console game is going to be the norm from now on.
@ gishagos
Probably not. I'm pretty sure Wizards & Warriors is a Rare game.
This sucks. I wonder when Nintendo will put more N64 games on VC? Also, isn't there still one more Virtual CONSOLE to be released? It'd be sweet if it was the Gameboy/GBA.
I think Castlevania III next week.
I'm actually glad for these 1 game weeks, it gives me less to download and more to look forward to. I can't afford nor finish all the games that come out that I enjoy as it is. At least I know that I have another week without making a purchase on VC to play the rest of the games in my catalogue like Megaman and Secret of Mana.
Besides, there actually ARE people out there who enjoyed this game. There ARE actually Urban Champion fans out there remember.
Why is Nintendo pulling this crap with us Americans but yet the Europeans are getting 2-3 games a week. I was bad enough over the summer when they got 4-5 games a week.
@Tragickingdom. Actually getting rid of WiiWare will do nothing. You'll just have 1 game weeks and 2 games weeks just like the time before Wiiware in early 2008...but people don't remember that...
The biggest contributor to the slowdown in releases is simple. Megadrive, TurboGrafx 16. Those systems are pretty spent in terms of what is immediatly available to come out. It is going to be harder to get more games as it requires getting 3rd parties on baord but most 3rd parties are a massive legal paper trail to work out who owns what any more due to bankcrupies, mergers and the like...
One thing I will say is it is nice that the master system is pulling releases and I hope it keeps up as a few months ago I was saying they need more Master System games out.
Why is Nintendo pulling this crap with us Americans but yet the Europeans are getting 2-3 games a week. I was bad enough over the summer when they got 4-5 games a week.
We get two to three games an update. But we update once every two weeks. In a typical month we'll either be even or you'll have more games yet you complain...
I just got a Nintendo 64 as an early Christmas present from my girlfriend. I am going to a local pawn shop to get me some games to tide me over till Nintendo starts releasing some more good games (In my opinion) for the VC. I already have Turok 2 and Golden Eye.
Yay, the link is fixed! (didn't have to delete my comment though...)
Oh dear! This game was the first game i ever bought. Not very good if i remember. Yeah Nintendo really is putting the boot into America. I think the days of 4-5 games a week are long gone. Europe will endure the same hardship when it catches up with America. We are in for dire times my friends! And we need not complain because Nintendo will just not listen. Remember our summer of disscontent? This may well be our winter of epic disscontentment ! We are in for a cold cold winter! I wonder if a year from now the VC will have left folks minds forever?
shame on Nintendo This is a pathetic update
@Bass X0: I actually don't spend my entire life thinking about this stuff, believe it or not. I had a 2-hour intermission for playing Sonic Unleashed, for example. I get your point, though...we care too much about this, we know it full well, and yet we do nothing about it.
@gishagos: No, Harvest Moon is Natsume. By which I mean to say, bowser meant Rare ltd., formerly known as Rareware.
Oh no. One game. Christmas is ruined! We're all doomed! We can't buy any Wii games or other VC games! We must have new games and good games every Monday or we'll whine and complain!
...
...
People seriously. Is VC such a big deal to you? Just get an emulator and rom if you want the game sooo, sooo bad...
Yeah, not the same thing as a TV I know, but just deal with it. There's lots of games I want but I'm not gonna whine and complain about them here.
Move on people, it's just video games.
Not the end of the world.
kthxbye.
Why is this happening. This is a total nightmare. I am thinking about abandoning the VC. Honestly. I have an Xbox 360 and although I don't particularly like Live Arcade, they've really boosted their library. They just released Banjo-Kazooie. I mean the VC hasn't even released Banjo yet and it was on the N64. Speaking of which, are they ever going to release the classics on that system? I thought NOA was just abandoning the N64 but it looks like they've abandoned the idea of the Virtual Console in general. There are so many possible games yet they continue to blow my mind away and release terrible games like Space Harrier, Boogerman, and now this. This is pathetic. I'm done.
Really, people? You complain about getting subpar games, then you clamor for Wizards and effin Warriors?
Sure stuff like Boogerman aren't exactly amazing, but it mops the floor with the entire W&W series any day.
#81: Banj-Kazooie is a Rare game and I'm sure you know that Rare is sleeping with Microsoft now and not Nintendo. So we won't get Banjo-Kazooie on VC. They (either Rare or Nintendo, I'm not sure who did the port) even edited out Banjo and Conker for the DS release of Diddy Kong Racing just because they didn't want to put those characters on to a Nintendo machine anymore.
I know it isn't related to the VC update as such but it gives Americans* something to look up to. Club Nintendo has just hit your region and it seems to be more of a replica of the Japanese scheme (down to the same goods) rather than a diabolical mess like Europe...
*-USA and Canada only. Apparently the rest of the continent (Mexico) doesn't exist...
Nintendo has one chance to redeem themselves, and that will be their christmas day (ish) releases. Hold off on the anger until then. If at that stage they don't do anything for the fans, go throw your shoes at them and be declared a national hero
Post 85: "If at that stage they don't do anything for the fans, go throw your shoes at them and be declared a national hero"
Good. I've got some heavy hiking boots set aside for the cause.
Wow. No wonder I've given up on VC after SMRPG came out. Here's to game No.300 hopefully not sucking at least when we get it in like Q3 2009...
@Starwolf-Last time I checked, we don't actually have C.N. It's been promised, but nothing showing...
It was showing for about 15-20 minutes enough for these screenshots to be grabbed:
http://gonintendo.com/?p=66410
Guess they weren't ready but at least you know what to expect...
They better give MULTIPLE gems during the week of christmas... One great game simply won't cut it after the shady treatment weve been getting...
...........i have nothing to say, i gave up after last week.
Well. This sucks. This is one of the many reasons why I'm abandoning my previous promise to keep the Wii as my sole current-gen console. Too many 3rd party devs don't pay attention to it, I have most of the good VC games, and quality disc based software has been slimmer than ever for Nintendo this year. I've been riding on Brawl all year, and it's been too hard. I'm getting Banjo Kazooie, and I'm going to have a great holiday celebrating with decent software! Sorry Nintendo, you've screwed me over long enough; I'll be glad to support any great games you do release every 5 months, but I have to have something in the downtime, and MS is my ticket to that.
You have to wonder what Nintendo is spending its unprecedented profits on right about now. I'd like to think that maybe it's R&D for their next console, but maybe it's their own private army? In which case, raiding Nintendo is ill-advised . . .
My condolences to people holding out for something in particular and not getting it, only to see the drip-drops get even smaller and more inexplicable (to cause wonder what to base one's hopes on).
I downloaded Enduro Racer and it is pretty much like Excitebike, except you have other vehicles you have to race against, I can't really say anything else about it, strange this is the 2nd week of the VC getting a Sega Master System game, least Master System people get some love...
Nintendo are really Stupid! i don't understand Why Nintendo Abandon the VC! Nintendo release really BS games! If Nintendo give at least a game like Mario paint, Mario party, Super Mario World 2! PLZ! PLZ! PLZ! i really hope for christmas!
I didn't say it, but I want wizards and warriors I and II . Mainly II because I could never defeat the final bosses.
ZOMG SWEET ENDURO RACER FOR THE SMS ... wait, wtf. This blows.
... no, but really I'm gonna try this game. Never. Never going to try this game... is what I meant to say.
I dont understand why Nintendo promote more Sega & TG-16 that NIntendo! WTF? it's a Nintendo system, Not a Genesis or TG-16...
:@
Anyone else noticed that we haven't gotten a SINGLE Nintendo-published game on VC since October 6th (in America; it was Mario Golf)? Seems to me they should still have a better catalog waiting than THAT! We should've at LEAST gotten Zoda's Revenge by now...
i want majoras mask..
98: Can't be bothered right now sorry, too late at night, but if you add up all the games released on Nintendo consoles and compare them to the numbers on Sega's consoles and the TG16, Nintendo would beat them both. This is hardly promoting Sega and TG16 above themselves.
And 100 posts in half a day of a crappy solo game week.
I don't mind Sega and TG-16 games. I don't even mind Commodore 64 games - OH WAIT. Look at my little flag. I don't have those.
Enduro Racer?! What's next? Maze Hunter 3-D?
I didn't mean to suggest that I have a problem with non-Nintendo games (though it's obvious that some people do...). I was just wondering why Nintendo can't even make one of these lousy one-games weeks THEIRS for a change. Or throw their game on top of some crap game. Why should NINTENDO care if the crap game doesn't sell, as long as their game does, right?
Have any of you actually tried...shock, horror...complaining to Nintendo about it?
complaining here won't solve the problem, in the time most have you have taken to complain here you could have emailed Nintendo themselves and they would have had 102 emails to deal with instead of 102 angry posts here. Just a thought...
I believe Nintendo still make money from Sega's games and other consoles that aren't their's simply by hosting it for them.
@Betagam7
<tips hat> Yes indeed. The squeaky wheel gets the oil!
That would be great. Nintendo's problem, as far as the gamers, is this: almost nobody is convinced they couldn't be doing better. Even business strategies change when the supplier is thusly informed about the feelings of the consumers.
It may be a drop in the bucket, but like Betagam7 said, if you have time to complain here . . .
...then we might not have the slightest idea how to contact someone in Nintendo who would actually listen or give a crap. So we complain here. If you want to give me a proven address of some Nintendo higher-up along with a promise that he'll actually care what I have to say and do something about it, THEN I'll complain to Nintendo. To say they aren't aware of our issues as it stands would be a lie, anyway. They know. They just don't give a crap.
@post71: That's what really gets me. Europe is getting six or nine a month now. NoA, what the hell!? I bought the Wii for the VC get your lazy butts in gear and give me more classics rather than crap every week!
@AlphaNerd01
Maze Hunter 3d can't be released on the vc. The Wii doesn't have any Sega Scope 3d glasses.
@Betagam7- I almost did once, but I ended up not sending my angry letter. Maybe I'll organize all of the angry posts here and send them off to Nintendo.
@Stuffgamer1- Hey, I saw that you got Sonic Unleashed and like it. I rented it, and I must say that I also enjoy it. I got the Wii version, and it's lots of fun. I plan on trying the 360 version as well (after I get one on the 25th).
@ Clayfrd - I haven't touched my Wii (yeah, yeah) for a couple of months. I've been playing Xbox Live games for the most part. I even downloaded Banjo Kazooie... sort of Ironic, huh? I went from playing my Wii and VC games every day, to playing Call of Duty, Fable II, Burnout Paradise, and Xbox Live games like Castle Crashers, and Banjo Kazooie! And guess what. There's always new, and (gasp) quality releases and a robust home-brew community that is everything Wiiware should have been.
I'm not a Microsoft fan, but that doesn't mean I can't admit when they are doing things right. And I think Nintendo could learn a hell of a lot from their online community and it's success. Nintendo fought the internet and online gaming with all of their being and it shows. They can't hold a torch to Sony's bare-bones online community, much less compare even remotely in quality to Xbox Live. That's not even debatable in any way. It's a bold, glaring and painful fact. Nintendo is well behind the curve and now is losing ground in what should be their one foothold and strength. Plain and simple... The Wii has long stopped being my system of choice.
Oh, and I've sent 2 well planned, well written, and VERY respectful emails to Nintendo. Neither one was answer with so much as an automated response. Good luck with that, as they simply can't hear you over the sound of money being printed.
@ 7th lutz
... yeah, that was kind of the point. Sarcasm. Try playing a 3D game without 3D glasses. It'd almost be as bad as Enduro Racer.
waaaahhh....sniffle sniffle..... it's not fair.......it's just not fair...
I can't believe a post about a one game release beat a post about a 3 game release in terms of replies in less than a day.
Teh intrawebz is about da winging.
@Manicfatty- I too am getting Banjo Kazooie 1 and 3 for 360 (and 2 whenever it comes out). I'm getting 360 because Nintendo failed me, not because I failed Nintendo, but especially not because of Gears. I hate "core" gamer's whose only support for being "core" is because they've shed photo-realistic blood in their favorite FPS. Playing fully-fledged, quality content-filled games of any genre constitues being a core gamer, not just playing Halo. Oh, and I second your whole 2nd paragraph. I'm also going to spend a different brand of points this holiday season, Microsoft Points! For great games like Banjo, Ikaruga, Smash TV, and Bionic Commando. I still love Nintendo, but they haven' t been loving me back (that sounded all kinds of awful). Anyway, I'm no longer a fanboy, and it's Nintendo's fault. That money being printed will eventually diminish once all of the casuals own the "Wii Series" and are tired of their toy. Maybe we cores can eventually take back N, but until then, I'd rather play on a system with an atrocious hardware failure rate with good games than on a system with good hardware reliability, poor memory, and a gem every 5 months.
Oh, and about that letter. I've stopped sending them my money, so if enough people will do likewise, they might just hear me. Until then, I'll save my breath.
Club Nintendo NA is now up! I just earned my first 200 points. Not all products give points, here's the list of values, see site for list of games:
Wii Games (50 pts)
Wii Shop Channel games and Wii Channels (10 pts)
Nintendo DS Games (30 pts)
300-800 pts nets you stuff.
see nintendo.com for more and registration stuff
Okay, I'll just say what we could have got instead:
BS-X Mario Excite Bike [Japan - Satella View System] - Import: 900pts
Basically a graphically enhanced, multiplayer version of Excite bike with Mario characters, as a satellite download for the SNES. That's right: way back in the day, Japan had their own download service for SNES - VC/Wiiware is NOT a new concept; they did it in the 90s, hehehe...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellaview
"Us europeans are holding Castlevania III hostage untill we at least get Secret of Mana or Mario Golf 64."
Agreed. Although... I'd much rather prefer Secret of Mana to Castlevania III.
Aaaa...come on guys and girls. Do you realy think Nintendo is doing this just to piss you off? Nintendo is a multibillion company and has been in this buisness for decades. Do you realy think you know better? I believe that they have to space things out so the Wii will have a longer lifecycle. Granted..some of the games at late are delicious..and with delicious I mean crappy.
Next week should be awesome...I just know it! I can feel the Christmas spirit...or is it the radiation from the nuclear powerplant I am currently working at? Never can tell why I feel so giddy at times. Aaa....glowy..
Yeah, hopefully Christmas will be a better week.
I think we've had enough trainwreck weeks.
Then they release a good game before somebody trainwrecks them.
(I'm going to say Earthworm Jim (October 27) was the last good one (sorry, Mega Man 3. I already bought you in MMAC.)
Castlevania 3 and Killer Instinct Gold should come out on the 22nd. That would be a good VC release day.
@Clayfrd
Your comment has a lot of sence, I totally agree with you, now I want a 360 , actually I've been wanting one for awhile, but I don't have the money, to be honest even if Nintendo had already started to deliver good things I wouldn't be able to purchase most of them .
I'm still hoping for something good on VC for Christmas, so that everyone in here get some joy, and nice comments about the games themselves and totally off topic chats comeback .
Anyone have a site that tracks the number of VC downloads per week?
I'd really like to see the numbers on this game, compared to all the other possibilities/past weeks.
Here's the thing. The Wii shouldn't have a longer lifespan BECAUSE of the virtual console. The Virtual console is supposed to extend the lifespan of old games into the Wii's actual period of growth. The fact is, when the main wii games stop delivering, the VC console will be just as dead, unless it's ported over to the next gen system.
It seems like they're doing this one release schedule so they can keep releasing games for the next thirty years, over countless next gen systems. And by the time they'd finish with the back library for the systems now on their service, we'll all be payin' money to download the latest Gamecube Classic re-releases on the 12th generation, like Astrix and Mega Man Network Transmission.
Ok - I think we need to dispel the myth that Nintendo is somehow going to run out of good games, or games period. That's just silly, to put it kindly. Let's assume that no one remembers Nintendo's Sega Genesis VC bombshell right before the Wii's release (Over 1000 Genesis games will eventually come to the VC). Let's pretend that rather than the multiple thousands of games that were released for these consoles (and I'm only counting North American releases for this), that instead each 8 and 16 bit system only had 200 games. And let's also pretend that the N64 and Neo Geo only had 100 games released for them. That makes 1200 games over 7 systems. Only a tiny fraction of what was actually released. But I'd say that this is a fair number to play with. After all, I know I'm going to hear about licensing and emulation difficulties and plenty of other reasons/excuses for a dirth of good games. So let's pretend then for the sake of argument that this number represent the only games that could actually be brought to the VC (out of thousands) due to these 'difficulties'.
Now lets assume that Nintendo wants the Wii to have a 6 year life span (based on the rumors of something happening in 2012). So... 52 weeks x 6 years = 312 weeks. Now divide the games by 312 weeks and it comes to roughly 3.85 games a week, but let's do the unthinkable and round this DOWN. That's still 3 games a week. So the numbers are stacked heavily in their favor in this little exercise.
And yet it still leaves us wondering... 'where the hell are the games?!?' One game crap weeks? Most weeks have been 1 or 2 game weeks, so once again... 'where are the rest?' Even if they did nothing but 2 game weeks for the rest of the Wii' life, they'd still have games left over.
I'm just sayin'
.............. another .....popular .......release.
(Besides, I think I already OWN Paperboy .......and in my version I at least get to throw newspapers at stuff while I'm stuck rolling down the same road repeated over and over)
Even if Nintendo is running a (potentially) valid profit making strategy like spreading games out over time just so they'll have something to peddle, the reality is that such a concept does almost nothing for me (and many other consumers who have the simple desire to be provided enjoyable games).
So extremely ignoring the interests and motivations of the customers is the height of idiocy. Longetivity is a fine thing, but starving to death so you'll conserve food for 2 years from now seems like the most superficial of strategic concepts.
With support and development like that, the Wii won't last longer that way. It'll just wither on the vine due to jaded and disappointed peoples' word of mouth. Meanwhile, people will start steering toward consoles that put the better games out sooner (like Contra, TRON, Double Dragon, Bionic Commando, Banjo Kazooie, Track and Field, etc...... this is me actually considering an xbox 360 after reading tis evening what they already have out there).
Marginal current VC support will probably impact Wii owners enthusiasm in general too, affecting sales of those $50 games. Truely a really smart move in every respect by Nintendo. I mean who needs positive word of mouth, content Wii owners, and buyer enthusiasm, when you have release rights to the inconceivably impressive Enduro Racer burning a whole in you company's pocket?! Inconceivable!
Especially when N can load up on one day of good game releases on a singular holiday and make everyone just totally forget and forgive a month of marginals trickling out. And that's the best case scenario at this point.
Who can argue with planning like that?
My ramping up disappointment with Nintendo's development and handling of it's solid initial concepts is probably most politely summed up by saying that Nintendo is handling the VC about as POORLY as possible (only zero releases could be worse development model for the VC........ talk about aiming low).
Anyone know a good place to pick up a Jasper model Xbox 360?!
Look at it like this...
Go browse the lists of games that have been released in Europe that have yet to be released in America. Very few at all. Some have been released in Europe over a year ago so its unlikely for whatever reason unknown to any of us that America will get such games any time soon.
Also go look at the "Coming Soon" list. Some games on there have been there for over a year too so its unlikely those will be coming any time soon either (unless they were saving the likes of Earthbound for Christmas but I doubt it; Phantasy Star IV will probably be your christmas present). If you take away all the "extremely desirable games" on that last and also those that have been there so long they probably won't come at all then there's very few games.
Basically, you won't get two games every week if they're likely to run out if they did.
I see a lot of people complaining that only one game was released.
What if that one game was the one you wanted?
Is one game still such a bad thing? I've gotten to the point that, if only one game comes out, I don't visit the website. Quit whining. I'll probably get flamed for this but, the way I look at it is, there are still many games on the VC that I haven't downloaded yet that I would like to. There are still several games on the VC that I have downloaded that I haven't beaten yet. There are many games (good and bad) that I, in my financial state, could probably never play unless it were for the VC (Gate of Thunder, Y's I and II are two that pop into my head). There are many games on the VC that I remember from back in the day wanting to play but never got to. One game comes out? So what. It isn't game X? So what. I've still got plenty of things to play.
As soon as Castlevania 3 comes out on the VC, you'll all start whining and complaining that some other game isn't out yet. It'll never end.
Hopefully there will be something decent out for christmas to keep everyone happy.
It would be great to wake up on christmas morning to find a message on your wii for a 500 point download as a gift, I mean it wouldn't cost all that much and would be a nice personal touch from Nintendo to show the fans they really do care.
@ 26
thats what i was sayin last week we arent getting any good titles 4 wii until after the holidays the least they can do is give us the classics but they're not even doing that so with that said nintendo really dropped the balll this hoilday season and they're still sellin a ridculous amount of wii and ds so i guess if your getting a wii this hoilday season ppl think they're gettin a great system they are sadly mistaken sorry jus goin on a rant now noa blows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ Eltigro
thats probably nintendos plan for every1 to download games that been out there 4 a while that havent gotten the love that nintendo had hoped
Yes, one game per week IS such a bad thing. Nintendo has the potential to release at least two, and they simply choose not to. Why they choose to keep the number of Virtual Console games as low as possible week after week, I honestly can't comprehend. They're not only irritating their fans, but limiting their own personal profit gain. It's stunning how counterintuitive and just plain idiotic they are.
It should be interesting on here if the christmas release is another bad offering, i mean if they don't sort it for christmas they never will.
@ deadbattery
"as low as possible"?
There is a number less than 1. Zero. Remember those guys from Europe saying that they only get a VC game every OTHER week? It could happen to the US, too.
I don't think Nintendo is hurting for money. Why are they only releasing one game? Who knows. At least they are releasing one.
Alot of gaming and strategy experts here. Pretty impressive actually..
There is a possible explanation for these lackluster VC weeks: christmas. Right now is the pre-christmas shopping spree, so people are supposed to spend their money on full prized games and consoles. VC-games don't make good presents. Cards with points do, but they only come into play after they have been received, e.g. after christmas. And sales figures show that a lot of people will be getting a Wii for christmas. Now consider from a marketing point of view: If you release good games now, they will be lost (to the new Wii-owners) in the large catalogue of other games already out now, overshadowed by games like Ocarina of Time, Super Mario RPG, etc. Therefore, the best way to impress all those new Wii owners (and thus potential VC customers) is to release good games AFTER christmas. So I wouldn't look to the next update for great games, rather the one after it.
Just a theory, but one that doesn't require exaggerated "Nintendo hates us" or "Nintendo wants do abandon VC" conspiracy theories.
as much as I think Nintendo`s being stupid right now, I will never get Microslop crap.
Wesbert...you are on the money there! Totally agree with you! Nice to see that someone gets it.
I'm not hating on Nintendo, I'm just being paitent, Its just the video game market at work, Basicly, They release the less wanted stuff for a little while untill, WHAMO! They release a completely unexpected gem for us to enjoy. Almost every console has done this atleast once.
Manicfatty,
Regarding the emails you sent, you have to appreciate that nintendo probably gets more emails than Ringo Starr and we all saw his opinions on how difficult it was to cope .)
I wouldn't advocate an email, I'd advocate a physical written letter. I've had some lengthy and honest responses from companies like THQ and Nintendo before when I've used this method to complain because they are usually treat seriously wheras emails can just be deleted and filed under "not received"
While I havn't always liked the answers I've received at least I've at least received credible attempts at justification and therefore been able to publically share them with the rest of the net and embarrass them further
"What if that one game was the one you wanted?"
But its still Enduro Racer! A two star game!
Well, they've already dropped the ball on Club Nintendo. After telling me that I can transfer my old My Nintendo account over (which I did), they couldn't even be bothered to give me points for the games I've already purchased! They're registered, all right, but I got nothing for doing so.
Also, the site is running questionably well. It keeps signing me out at random...
@ Eltigro - No flames. It's your opinion. I don't really agree with all that you've said, but oh well. Like I said... it's your opinion! I hope that it is appreciated.
@ Betagam7 - Point taken and it is actually something that I'm aware of... I just got a bit lazy... so easy to cut and paste into an email I've gotten many vouchers for free product when I took the time to send snail mail when something was irking me. Free... my favorite 4 letter word!
@Wesbert - Nintendo can promote the hell out of ALL of the older VC releases via the Nintendo channel and messages. In fact, they could be doing special promos and discounts for the holidays... especially with how hard times are right now. Do they have to? No. But I don't think the whole 'Why should we?' mentality is going over very well. I've already started to hear people wondering why there were no holiday packages or discounts from Nintendo. And just because you're a success and are moving product doesn't mean you ignore the times you live in.
I DO understand the Wii points post holiday sales point that you made, I just think that it doesn't really make all that much sense in the larger picture. These games will sell any way. Everyone has their favorites they'll look for. New games will move now, and after the holiday as well. If Nintendo really wants to move certain titles they need to highlight them on the Nintendo channel. Even XBL has spotlight games. I'm just sayin'... and rushing a bit here...
(I'm going to write more later but I have to get to work... I'm not done yet )
Post 134:
"as much as I think Nintendo`s being stupid right now, I will never get Microslop crap."
The only thing you're doing with that attitude is hurting yourself. You're missing out on some great stuff.
Post 119:
"Castlevania 3 and Killer Instinct Gold should come out on the 22nd. That would be a good VC release day."
KI Gold sadly will never hit the VC. Microsoft won't allow it, I'm sure. (Can't really blame them, either)
@ Manicfatty: It's not just about the promotion of the VC games, it's also about the promotion of the VC service itself. If they released all the 'hot' games now, it would leave the less interesting ones for later, i.e. after christmas. Now imagine you got your Wii for christmas, hooked it up to the internet and browsed the VC-library. You'd go "Wow, all those great games! I can't wait for the next update!" And then the next update would reveal.... Enduro Racer (or something similar). What a letdown, and you'd conclude the VC was already past it's prime! If, however, they released the dull games now and the hot games afterwards, any VC-newbie would find the next update stock full of gorgeous classics (or whatever), then they'd be thrilled and even more inclined to buy more point cards.
Leaving only the VC veterans slightly annoyed, but as you said yourself: Those games will sell anyway. Including after christmas!
As for discounts: There's another school of thought about them, namely that they're unfair towards those who paid the initial, full prize. Is it fair to rip off loyal and devoted fans like that? (That argument can be heard frequently)
My point is, this is A marketing strategy. Not the only one, not necessarily the best one, but it's the one they apparently chose (And remember, there is no single 'correct' marketing strategy).
Provided, of course, I'm right. Which I might not be.
Thanks Manicfatty.
It's just that the constant crying over Game X gets tiresome. "Nintendo is crap until they give us Castlevania 3." Before that it was, "Nintendo is crap until they give us Game Z." Before that it was "Nintendo is crap until they give us Game Y..."
Sigh...
@ Manicfatty your logic is flawless
This is whats called a Virtual Console recession
Don't forget to take into account that Nintendo is already into development of their next console, and allegedly having committed to the idea of an HD Wii, it's probably safe to assume that the VC will remain intact and transfer over to Nintendo's next-gen. So, not only are they trying to stretch the appeal of the VC out over the life of the Wii, but they're inevitably going to have to hold back some must-have titles if the VC is going to keep releasing new titles into the next generation.
But, for real, this update is a serious slap in the face.
I'll stick it out with the Wii for the rest of its lifecycle, but if Nintendo thinks I'm going to buy HD Wii, they're crazy. I think I read a rumor somewhere that the next Wii will have greater emphasis on downloadable content. There should be greater emphasis on downloadable content now!
@The Fox- Your response to Nintendork is what I, a former Nintendo fanboy, finally came to realize a month or two ago when Banjo-Kazooie slapped me in the face and woke me from my slumber... and plenty of other games. Again, I'd rather play constantly released good games on a system that's doomed to Red Ring sooner or later than play one great game per semester (which means six months, not just half of a school term). Nintendo has failed to deliver, and I hate Sony, so that leaves me with SEGA! Wait, this is the 2000's, I guess that leaves me with Microsoft! I used to have the same mentality as Nintendork until I saw great game after great game pass me by. Hooray for capable systems! I really hope Nintendo figures it out next-gen. Ah, well. I'll keep my Wii around for the occasional VC release and games like MadWorld and Brawl.
Sometimes, I wonder if modern western culture has become about rewarding whoever winges first and loudest. This isn't supposed to be an attack on people here, although there is some winging. But from my experiences working in hospitality, people would winge about the most trivial things until they got free stuff. Also, at my current job in a laboratory, these two chicks hated each other so they started a massive winge fest that went through official channels and of course the person who winged first had the initial complaint and the other poor girl had to defend herself the whole time. I seriously think western culture needs a case of 'toughen the fµ©k up'.
@timp29 - Well... eh... I'm just pissed off !
@ timp29 - erm...ok. Now can someone tell me what a 'winge' is or how to go about 'winging'.
Also, why would doing... whatever that is make timp29 so very agitated?
Oh, and just a tip. If 'winging' ever breaks out between 2 women at the office again, may I suggest offering up a kiddy pool full of pudding for them to work things out in?
I suggested ky-jelly and bikinis and 'first chick to die loses' rules. But I got fired for sexual harassment
And manicfatty, you know exactly what I mean! If you can figure out what ALDAWGZ is saying, you can figure out whether its winge or whinge etc. Now we have (selective) spelling police
@Manicfatty. It's a snooty Australian way of saying "whining."
@Clayfrd. I used to hate Microsoft's guts too, but this generation has really changed the way I felt about them. When this generation was starting out, I was all for the Wii and the PS3 (sorry Clay, I've been a Sony fan for 10 years), but after they revealed the PS3's $600 price tag, and seeing all the amazing releases for the 360, both on the digital and retail front, and how most of the PS3 "exclusives" weren't exclusive anymore, my attention instantly shifted to Microsoft. I still refuse to buy a PS3 right now due to the small pile of good exclusives, but I might change my mind when GoW III comes out.
I'm supposed to get a 360 for Christmas, and given the lack of good Wii releases this holiday on all fronts, it can't come soon enough. Sorry Ninty, but AC: City Folk, as fun as it is, isn't enough to quell my holiday gaming needs. I still love my Wii, and will never sell it, but I'm definitely not gonna go through this generation on just it alone. Thankfully, 2009 is looking a lot better, as the Wii will supposedly be getting a bunch of awesome games like The Conduit, Madworld, Punch-Out, S&P 2, and Wii Sports Resort.
I REALLY hope they give us something decent this Christmas on VC. At LEAST Pengo.
@Betagam. We could write a letter (I've been meaning to write to them anyway about the lack of free trials), but I have a strong feeling that they won't listen to us. >_>
Plus, as pissed off as I am with the recent releases (especially this), I haven't reached that level of anger yet. There's still a bunch of games that came out in late Summer/early Fall (back when we were getting good games in reasonable quantities) that I had yet to DL. Once I get them and play them for awhile, THEN maybe I would consider that option.
@Mr. Cheez - My thoughts exactly (I too am getting a 360 come the 25th) minus the Wii Sports Resort thing. I think Wii Sports and Miis are largely responsible for Nintendo's problem.
@Mr Cheez- "GoW IIII " Just in case anyone wonders, that was a typo for God of War III not "God of War IIII" aka IV, which doesn't exist.
@Clayfrd. Don't blame the Miis. It's not their fault Nintendo keeps sticking them in a bunch of crappy tech demos like Wii Play and Wii Music.
Edit: @O_B. Thanks for catching that. I didn't even realize I did that. I'll fix it up in a jiffy.
@Mr. Cheez
I for one am looking forward to Wii Sports Resort. Aside from the Virtual console, Wii sports is the reason I bought a Wii. I still play Wii sports and I think its terrfic.
I quickly determined that timp29 must've meant "whining," but I'd never heard it said "winging" before. That's gotta be one of the weirdest locational linguistic differences I've ever heard...
@Tony: You, my friend, are a rarity among Wii owners, especially among those of us obsessed enough to frequent web sites like this. But seriously, I don't mind if you like Wii Sports, and I don't think it's right for people to bash it. It DID come with the system, after all...
@Stuffgamer. Like I said in my first post here, I want Wii Sports Resort too, cuz unlike SOME PEOPLE HERE, I actually liked Wii Sports. Plus, it comes with that cool Motionplus doohickey.
@Nintendork. You're only hurting yourself there, buddy.
@Mr. Cheez: Okay, so you want it, too. I didn't mean to say he's a rarity in wanting Wii Sports Resort, but in still playing Wii Sports. Don't get me wrong here, I liked Wii Sports. I played it rather a lot, and eventually, I got tired of it, as most people do. I'll reserve judgment on the Wiimotionplus until I've tried it, though...
Actually, I still pop in Wii Sports every once in a while, especially when friends are over. And I too am interested in Wii Sports Resort, especially that Diskus throwing game.
I just got a Nintendo 64. When I tried to find a expansion pack online, amazon also showed a Nintendo 64 RAM extender. What is the difference between the two, and which one is better.
Looks liek the same thing to me. The "N64 RAM Expander 4MB Memory Expansion" Amazon lists is third party, though, so it should be of lesser quality. Go for the Nintendo-produced one.
When I bought my used N64 at Gamestop years ago, it already had an expansion pack in it. I was glad not to have to worry about that (I didn't even really know what it was at the time, but the guy who sold it to me pointed out that it was there).
And I concede that Wii Sports seems to have higher replay value for a lot of people than I thought. You gotta expect my view to be skewed a bit when that was one of the only games I could play at a weekly even I used to attend called Friday Night Light (fun, safe gathering at my church to keep people off the streets), and my coworkers aren't very fond of it (or their Wii's in general, really...). I still haven't used the Wii Sports disc that came with my system even once, actually...
Heh, this thread's over 160 posts now. Easily surpassing the activity following the Boogerman debacle of last month.
I'm in the same camp with folks who see Wii Sports as a highlight of the Wii. Even now, as long as the Wii has been out, and even with the lack of depth in some of the Wii Sports games, IMHO Wii sports is one of the best, cleanest, funnest applications of the motion controls for the Wii to-date.
If they put out a Wiiware program that allowed online multiplayer of some of the Wii Sports games, I'd consider it worth my money (and Wii memory).
I too overplayed my Wii Sports (that's how it goes for a free pack in game when new games will cost $50) to the point of being tired of it for a while (getting Pro in Tennis, Bowling, and Baseball was pretty THE thing to accomplish, what with the limited depth in the games), but now I can and do put it back in as often as any other Wii game I own (well, at least once I get 100% on Lego Batman). And with other people it is always a fresh experience.
I'll be waiting to see if Wii Sports Resort will have the same tight responsiveness as Wii Sports had, but if it does it'll be one of those select nonVC Wii games I'll put down the money for.
And you know, I think I Winged once......... back in 1982. It was highly overrated.
Winged looks more like wing-ed than winge-d.
I am Spartacus!
But, seriously, I too proudly swing my Wiimote in the name of Wii Sports, I'm even tempted to hook up WiiPlay and another controller, any feedback on WiiPlay?
Looks like we have to Enduro another crappy week. Muwahahahahaahahahahahahaahagahghghhghglargbargle
@lockelocke:
WiiPlay is a mixed bag. It's got enough games in it, and they are generally of enough quality that I suspect most everyone will find at least 2 or 3 of the games to be to their liking.
The Shooting Range one was solid, though for being sort of a nod to various NES lightgun games, I really missed the snickering dog at the bottom of the screen for missed shots.
The Find Mii and Pose Mii were interesting for little bit, but got a bit boring. But I guess they are good for a quick pick-up-and-play.
Table Tennis (Ping Pong) was unfortunately more like a graphically enhanced Pong and seemed to lack any depth of controls.
Laser Hockey was a fun little air hockey game, though I'd swear the physics went a little off between the paddle and the puck here and there when the puck got up to high speeds.
The Fishing game was interesting, but suffers for lack of a true 3D virtual GUI. Controlling things can get frustrating.
And for my taste, Billiards (a well designed and reasonably complete [9-ball only] pool game), Charge! (a cleanly designd basic cow riding racer), and Tanks! (a game enjoyably similar to the tank game in the Atari 2600 Combat game....which is a high praise comparison from me) are the best of the set.
I'd say it's absolutely worth the mere 10 dollars on top of the usual $40 Wiimote cost. Just don't expect a complete work of art.
@whalleywhat - That was great.
@Captain_Konami - I agree with you almost entirely. I think the Laser Hockey is great, and my favorites are Billiards and Tanks. I rarely play the game, though, but it's an okay buy if you need an extra remote.
I wonder if the reason for fewer releases is all those people who say "I'm running out of space on my Wii!" and Nintendo knows that those people actually avoid downloading more games because of space limitations. I mean, if people just fill up their flash memory and then hold off on downloading new games because of that, well, that could be a considerable factor (I found out that this applies to a lot of people).
(I got my 2-gig SD card for $20 like a year ago.)
@Clayfrd: Yeah. Wii Play is kinda odd, it's great for short pick-up-and-play but poor for playing for any prolonged period of time. It's kind of the Vanilla Wafers of gameplay.
As far as discounts are concerned. I'm surprised it never got reported here or mentioned by anyone (that I've seen) that download tickets are coming out soon. IE: Purchase a game (for example, Punch-Out!! Wii, but the service will probably come out before then). It comes with a unique code, you enter it into the Wii Shop, and you can download Punch-Out!! or whatever, may happen when they re-release Metroid Prime 1 & 2, they may allow you to download Super Metroid for free.
And people may flame this post by saying "But I alredyz donl0adz the Retmoid Gamz!". This is just an example, they may mainly do it to new VC releases combined with new Wii games.
It's written in the latest news section of the Wii Shop channel if you want to check it out.
But regarding Enduro Racer, like I said, there's an audience for Urban Champion, so there's an audience for this game. I've been curious myself on all SMS games as I never owned one, I will avoid this after watching the video though. But some of us would have grown up on this game, and there's still over 250 games in the service you can choose from, I am certain there's something there for everyone!

You're right - clueless uninformed people who have more money than sense.
Agreed. Just put my Wii on ebay. 40 VC games, yet I haven't downloaded one in months. Nintendo. You have lost me.
@Bass X0: It's more of a matter of taste, and games we grew up with, which is the point of VC. And regarding people having more money than sense, it sounds like most of the people who frequent this website demanding an A+ title be delivered to them every week like they can afford to buy and play through that many games that fast.
@Steady Mobbin 22: How much is that Wii going for? I need a new US Wii. Why Nintendo have lost you because they only put one game up a week is beyond me. Live Arcade and PSN are lucky to put something decent up once a month aswell.
@chunky_droid - To your second point - Actually, not really true. Both Microsoft and to a lesser extent Sony have been rockin' the downloads these last few months. There are many good and/or great ORIGINAL games, as well as arcade remakes and originals and Xbox & PS1 originals. On top of this, there is an obscene amount of downloadable content for disc based games and both systems have a ridiculously better holiday line-up than the Wii. I'm just sayin'.
@Manicfatty, or Hurricane Helms
As your point states, "these last few months". Besides that, people are whining about the lack of decent VC games being released lately. There may not be as much good original content on WiiWare yet, but there is a hell of a lot more, and better, retro content on Wii Shop than anyone else has been releasing.
@chunky_droid - werd. but I still contend that M$ is making it happen and their home brew community is everything that wiiware should have been. I have over 60 games on my VC/SD card, so I hear ya. I just enjoy the XLA environment/content, and the fact that I have a 120Gb HDD. No swappin' crap!
Castlevania Chronicles just hit the PSN. Maybe it's trying to tell us something.
Yeah, Decent Storage Capacity For a System Designed to Download Games for the win. The Wii just has too many frickin Wiiknesses to also not put its best foot forward with the quality of its game release schedule.
.......A SanDisk card for a hard drive. Stupidest move ever.
@Zukovius
Yes, along with Rayman 2, which has been on the top of my PSOne wishlist since the start of the PSN service, since I always watched people play at the supermarket, and actually got a chance to play it at the hospital. Now I finally get to play it in the comfort of my own home, without having to wait in any lines or visit any smelly hospitals, just as I always wanted...or at least I would, if I weren't so busy with Castlevania Chronicles.
@Manicfatty, I'm fully aware that Nintendo is taking the bare-bones approach. And I hear you about the homebrew community and the environment/content. We'll just have to wait and see what they do with Wii 2. As long as the service is popular I don't see Nintendo changing a hell of a lot in the future though :/
@Zukuvius and Mickeymac: Yeah, they came out in the last week, the best games to come out before them are probably Wipeout and Crash Bandicoot. Other than that there's not a great deal of retro content, hardly even any old arcade games or old console games have come out on the service. It's content that they could easily snap up (save for Nintendo published games of course) but for some reason choose not to.
@chunky_droid
Actually, the original Wipeout sucked. The only good PSOne games on PSN are the later Crash Bandicoot games, Rayman 1 & 2, and both of the Catlevania games. And maybe R-Types, but that's just me, and I'd rather get the remake when that comes out.
Yeah, their selection could definitely be better.
I'll probably get Twisted Metal 2, Medieval, and maybe SOTN. I only got a 2gig memory stick(I don't have a PS3 yet) so I can't download a whole lot of PS1 games.
@Zukovius
They already have a remake of Medieval on PSP, so you could get that instead, if you want to save up space.
@Mickeymac: I based Wipeout being a good download on it's popularity alone, I hate ALL of the Wipeout games, with a humungous passion.
I can't wait until tomorrow's VC releases where we can continue to banter on about random @^*% again
Enduro Racer has to have near to the most posts in its VC week than any other week
Another thing I just remembered is that we haven't gotten the Commdore 64 over here yet. Maybe we never will. Maybe we will. Maybe Nintendo is going to surprise us tomorrow with it instead of Castlevania 3. My guess is no but if they do that instead of Castlevania the game or games better be good...I just check the amount of C64 games on our wishlist: 19! That's a lot of games taking up space in the usa's coming soon list for a system unreleased thus far. I can't wait to find out tomorrow morning!
While Castlevania 3 would be nice, all I want tomorrow is M.U.S.H.A., that alone would make my day.
Kevin don't get your hopes up too high, we're probably gonna get something crappy.
Good luck NA, lets see if Santa thinks you've all been good this year
I was looking over the list of potential catch-up games.......would Big N dare drop a single game week of Skate or Die on NA?
Heh, not quite as poor as Enduro Racer (personally I owned it, found it frustrating yet mildly charming.....but ALWAYS prefered my TandC Surf Design), but I suspect that might not be well received.
Personally, I'm now hoping for Clash at Demonhead from out of nowhere. I've tried hoping for CIII and PSIV and that hasn't worked. I don't dare hope for Pro Wrestling (which would make a really neat Christmas gift). So, I choose to look forward to a random favorite of mine like Clash at Demonhead.
Heres the pool I think theyll select from:
Castlevania 3, Clayfighter, Earthworm Jim 2, MUSHA, Nobunaga's Ambition, Phantasy Star 4, Super Street Fighter 2 Genesis, Wonder Boy in Monster Land
I suppose worst case scenerio at this stage is SSF2 Genesis and no other VC games. Really though, It looks like a pretty sweet lineup.
Yeah there ain't no tellin what will come out tomorrow. The only thing I'm lookin forward to right now is CV3. I got high hopes for it since Chronicles came out, but those hopes aren't up too high.
I would probably bet on 2 games out of Castlevania III, Earthworm Jim 2 and Wonder Boy in Monster Land.
Personally I want all three of those. But let's hear it for Super Sh... I mean Pitfall which will probably be the case!
We get neither of those three: Phantasy Star IV. At this rate we're prob gonna get Castlevania 3 next year.
Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! .........A one game week even on Christmas. If it were anything worse than PSIV, I'd have to Bah Humbug in this post. As it stands, Big N just gets a Whatever.
I'll curl up with Phantasy Star IV and pretend/imagine that there haven't been so few seriously good games for months at a time and that all is well. PSIV will buy me just enough good will to invent such a mindset.
