Boogerman is a rather average game in terms of gameplay - Just run and jump your way through the stages. What really sets it apart from other platformers however is the theme - Your character, Boogerman, is pretty much the filthiest hero ever, as his arsenal includes farts and belches! Of course your enemies aren't exactly the cleanest bunch either - To beat them you'll have to traverse areas such as the Flatulent Swamps and the Pus Palace, go through sewers by actually going down toilets, and more. This unique theme actually makes the game quite enjoyable, although it's not in the same league as Earthworm Jim.
On WiiWare this week you can grab two new games - Boingz and Sudoku Challenge.

If I was an American, I'd complain. Seems like three average games this week.
Meh! I am sure most people are annoyed by the lack of Castlevania III. Shame it's also another 1 game week again. Almost as lame as waiting for Secret of Mana.
Lame!
I know one thing I am not Thankful for on this Thanksgiving week, and that would our terrible one game VC week again.
They could have at least given us Castlevania 3
Edit: this makes the Space Invaders wii-kly update look really good right now
What? Why do we always get the random games?
Who would have thought that Chinese Democracy would come out before Castlevania III? Chinese Democracy is very good, actually, for those curious.
still no starfox or kirby dreamland 3 amazing
I knew we weren't going to get Castlvania III. For all of you guys who said NOA was waiting for Castleania Judgement to come out before they released Castlevania III, guess what? You were wrong! Nintendo has just told everyone in North America to eat boogers!
Average and uninspiring rather than "bad", I'd say.
Raise your hand if you're excited about this week... NOW!
I'm guessing you didn't raise your hand.
I hope the f***tards responsible for the Virtual Console releases choke on their turkey just a little bit. Five easy words: SINGLE. GAME. WEEKS. F***ING. SUCK. I really can't stress it enough. If they've decided to dedicate a week to crap, WHY NOT attach a second crap game (Super Pitfall?) just to get it out of the way? So maybe next week can be less disappointing? Oh well. Go ahead, Nintendo, lose fans and alienate people.
Castlevania 3 would be an acceptable 1 game week. However they could release something cool like Mercs or Metal Slug 2 to round the week. Nintendo you have not chosen wisely.
Anyway its hard to cope with the lameness of this week
Booo!
What a lame month November is turning out to be!
And I can safely say this week is literaly $hit!
@LinktotheFuture : Yeah I think I'm going to get it. Never been a huge GnR fan, but this looks like something interesting... Huge release with 15 years in the making. Last thing something like that happened, it was NIN's The Fragile in 1999, 7 years in the making, and I still feel I haven't heard it all, even after all those years and listens...
Its not that Boogerman is a bad game, its just that its one game. Maybe Nintendo don't treat VC games and WiiWare games differently (although its always two WiiWare games every week) but we on VC-R enjoy our VC games and to have them to come out at the slowest pace possible is mind-numbing. Americans are expecting Castlevania III and Phantasy Star IV and rightfully so because they were released recently in Europe. People would rather have a second game regardless of what it is or its content. Even a lowly one star game released alongside Boogerman would be better than just Boogerman - those one star games have to come out sometime. If you don't like platformers you're screwed this week.
Boogerman shouldn't be the only game all complainers are whining about.
The Sega Genesis version of Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers got esrb rated for the Wii last Friday. That means we could be getting the Genesis or the Megadrive version of Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers soon on the vc.

"but do some of the people complaining on here really have the sort of cash that they can afford to buy all the games that get released every week, such that they feel really disappointed when they simply don't want all or any of them?"
Yes, some of us do! I currently have 157 VC games and 26 WiiWare games. I go through Wii Points like crazy. I probably buy a card every week or two. I do get disappointed some weeks when there isn't anything that I want to download. I wish they at least give us one solid game per week.
#16: Didn't know that. On the one hand, different versions of the same game could be a good thing - if you were a gamer in the early nineties then you were either a Genesis/MegaDrive fan or a SNES fan. And although we have access to each others games now on VC, it is nice to play the actual version we played when we were younger. There are differences between the same games on both systems. But still, it is Super Street Fighter II again and even if you grew up playing it on Sega, you still have to admit that the SNES version looks a lot better. I wonder if we'll see SNES Fatal Fury at some point... probably not.
Hmmmm will Clayfighter and Earthworm Jim 2 make it out before 2008 is over with? I think one of them is going to get January'd.
Great choice Nintendo. Another week of pure sh*t! (raises middle finger).
How could you idiots not give us Castlevania 3!
Then again, your Secret of Mana makes up for pretty much all EU-exclusive classics.
Go and play Secret of Mana some more, it will make you feel happy
Maybe because they take offense at being called idiots...
Well, they are idiots. Come on! A classic game like Castlevania 3 being passed over week after week for nothing but pure garbage (except for Mega Man 3.)
Ugh, Boogerman (only) AND no Space Invaders Get Even. Also no CVIII. So much for my Monday morning Wii DLC tradition.
Not that there's been much DLC I've been thrilled about lately, anyway.
These lame updates haven't really been bothering me but now I'm starting to get a little irked. No excuse not to have Castlevania III up by now, Nintendo. For shame!
I am so confused. Who placed the order for Boogerman? Why is this game even being released? Seriously, they are pretty much just f***ing with us They have to be!
Boogerman? Hop aboard the WTF express!
Marcel, I think its better you don't mention the games one region got that this region hasnt got yet in the VC updates, I dont think complaining about them should be encouraged.
Come on, people, are you forgetting that you get atleast one game EVERY SINGLE week? You take this system for granted getting angry when only one game comes out, or even when a good amount of games come out and you don't want any of them. Relax a little, don't sit and wait for your favorite game, just keep jacksturbatin or something else thats tons o' fun and it'll come before you know it.
Wait, this game got 4 stars? And people are complaining? Am I seeing this right now?
I think Boogerman's "gross-out" factor is probably why.
Honestly, I think Nintendo are idiots for just putting 1 game up. If they put Boogerman up with another game then maybe people would give it a chance, but everyone here gets really pissed off when we get only 1 game, that they won't even give Boogerman a chance because they are so pissed. I feel that way.
Anyway, I thought that the VC had turned a corner after all of the great releases in September and October, but sadly, it looks like it is reverting back to the sh*tty releases that we got during the summer, with our 1 game Neo Geo fighter weeks.
@djshep1973
"Perhaps some of the complainers should just play some of the other really good games that have come out recently, or get on with enjoying the vast array of games they probably already have instead of belly-aching that certain games they do want haven't already come out."
I probably wouldn't be belly aching as much about the VC if there were some actual Wii games out there for me to play. Nintendo thought that a glorified noise maker(Wii Music) and a fourth release of the same game(Animal Crossing: City Folk) would be enough to satisfy us for the fourth quarter. And don't even get me started on Wii third party support. I hope 2009 is a better year for the Wii than 2008.
Mike, if someone goes into auto-pilot angry mode because one game comes out to the point where they wont give the one game a chance, your saying Nintendo are idiots for that? Re-evaluate what you just said there, because its obvious the complainers are the idiots here.
I don't need to re-evaluate what I said. It makes sense. Nintendo are the idiots who keep giving us 1 game weeks. It's likely to piss people off so much that they won't even give a game like Boogerman a chance. I bet Boogerman would sell better if there was another game along with it.
GodsUncle, people have a right to complain. This is a video game blog basically and people complain on those. If you don't like people complaining each week than just ignore them.
Wait a minute though, if Castlevania 3 or Earthbound or what have you was the only VC release then people would be so pissed there wasnt anything else they wouldnt be interested?
It makes sense to you, because all you want to see is Super Mario World 2, Earthbound, etc every week releases, when it just doesn't work like that.
All we see when we look at you is "Mike" and a link avatar, if we were to sit here and watch all the moves you make in a day I guarantee wed have tons of reasons to call you an idiot. See where Im getting at here? Its easy for all of these oh-so-perfect citizens to sit here and call big bad Nintendo idiots, but do you even know how things actually work? Do you think Nintendo is trying to cater to the small audience at VC-Reviews? Nobodies an idiot just because they don't do what you so strongly think they should. Do you even realize that you're generalizing Nintendo as one big idiot when theres branches upon branches, and its not just one head that makes these decisions?
On the one hand, different versions of the same game could be a good thing - if you were a gamer in the early nineties then you were either a Genesis/MegaDrive fan or a SNES fan.
Linking this commetn to this week according to the end of the boogerman review the SNES version of the game has completely different level layouts and so an additional SNES version could actually be warrneted in that case...probably won't happen though
As for single game weeks. Nintendo needs to get more 3rd parties involved in VC...or better ultilise the ones they've got. When was the last time we got Neo-Geo or Master System games?
#35: Well no, those two are exceptionally desirable games. Its more these average solo releases like Boogerman which get people angry. There's a huge difference.
How can you complain about a 4-star game? The statement of reasons ("it is just one game") is pretty ridiculous considering the predication that a release of another 1-star game would be better...
@ Bass X0: 4 out of 5 stars is not average. And your comment also sounds like that only well-known games are good games...
Look on the bright side guys: At least it holiday-appropriate. Nintendo gave us a turkey for thanksgiving! XD
But seriously, this refusal to give us CVIII or PSIV is really starting to get on my nerves. >: (
@Ness. I'm not much of a fan of games where bodily substances are a key gameplay element.
I think four stars was generous. I wouldn't give some well known games as high a rating as they get here. They deserved it when originally released but not now.
Another one game week!? God F****g d**n it! Those stupid b*****s are just asking to be **** in the ***** with a giant **. Whew, at least I got that out. Except for Secret of Mana, it looks like our fellow gamers across the pond have been having somewhat better luck with the VC recently.
@post 38:
Far as I know it, the VC reviews are opinion, not fact. In fact, I'm pretty sure they actually reviewed it quite a bit better than the reception it got when it was originally released.
I'm getting tempted to go buy some games for the old consoles again that I used to own. Donkey Kong 64 for example. Could be expensive but better than waiting.
Just wait till the Genesis version of Super Street Fighter 2 is a one game week
Pesonally I think we need some racers on the VC. Its been a while
For christ sake if you want to play those old games that bad, just homebrew them."
I don't have the homebrew channel, and even if I did I wouldn't know how to use it. I'm not that nerdy.
@Tony. I agree, preferrably on a system other than the N64 (though I really want Excitebike 64). For starters, we really need to get Super Mario Kart and Outrun over here.
Pass.
I know a lot of you think Boogerman is a bad game, but it's snot.
all the people dissing Nintendo need to remember, we got SMRPG, Mana, and Vectorman all in the last 3 months
#51: ever hear the phrase about resting on your laurels? To rely on one's past achievements instead of working to maintain or advance one's status or reputation.
"In fact, I'm pretty sure they actually reviewed it quite a bit better than the reception it got when it was orignally released."
Yep. Boogerman isn't a bad game, but it's really average and unspectacular. 4 Stars is extremely generous. I was expecting 3, and wouldn't be too surprised had it gotten 2.
I'm actually really glad this game came out I haven't played it since I rented it from Blockbuster when I was a little kid.... I'm not sure if I'm going to download this one or Earthworm Jim... but it'll be one of the two for sure.
I'd like to think Nintendo for thinking broadly about how the global financial crisis has hit the US. With the crap they've given us recently (MM3 notwithstanding), we've been able to save money that normally goes to VC games. Well done.
This is the month that was November on the Virtual Console
24: Boogerman
17: Forgotten Worlds & Space Invaders
10: Mega Man 3
03: Space Harrier
Mega Man 3 was clearly the best game this month in America on VC but even that was in a compilation. Five games isn't many at all and even the sole two game week was disappointing.
36. GodsUncle 24 Nov 2008, 15:35 GMT
Wow, yet again myself and other people state their opinion, and some holier than thou loser has to defend Nintendo because a few people complained about their crappy VC release. Releasing one game is a stupid marketing stratergy for the reasons I listened before.
P.S. if you followed me around for a day you would say I have a great job, family and friends. Probably stuff you don't have. Watch your insults dude!
4 stars... seriously. I think you should have to actually play every minute of the game in order to review it. If that had happened, there would have been no way it would have received 4 stars. It's just too vanilla. Unless you're maybe 10 or 11 and REALLY like fart jokes.
I sadly played through the whole thing when it came out... rented it over a weekend from Blockbuster (Hey, I payed to play it so I got my money's worth!).
For comparison: Earthworm Jim was a 4 star game... barely. A good and well crafted game with interesting level design, wonderful character designs, better that average graphics but with some fundament flaws that kept it from perfection. Which is what a 4 out of five is... a near miss with perfection. If control had been tighter, the whip weapon more effective, and the difficultly balanced throughout the game, EWJ would have been 5 star worthy. But Boogerman? It's only claim to fame is it's potty humor, which certainly doesn't warrant the addition of a star. Other than that, it's nothing more that a mildly amusing, pandering, average platform game.
A 3 star game at best. And I don't see how, after slugging one's way through the entire mediocre game, it could been given 4. I'm just sayin'.
ps. As a break down: The game-play and design are 2 of the stars. The fluid animation (which yes is very cartoon-like) is the additional star. As nice as the game moves, that takes a back seat to the very tired 'been there done that' game-play.
U know ocarina of time has been out for ten years. They should've put Majora's Mask out to celebrate that occasion, but nope. NOA probably can't do it because of the expansion thing. There's five Monday's in December, so hopefully only one of those weeks is one game.
Christmas is coming up. Nintendo needs to start rolling out so more good games. I think for December, Nintendo should have three games a week. A RPG, action/adventure, and a shooter (not some space shooter which the VC has too many of already) game could come out each week to have a variety for people to choose from.
But seriously, this refusal to give us CVIII or PSIV is really starting to get on my nerves. >: (
You'll find alternatives...I know I did with NOEs refusal to give us proper verisons of the games
U know ocarina of time has been out for ten years. They should've put Majora's Mask out to celebrate that occasion, but nope.
I don't agree they should have put out Majora's Mask but I do agree agree they should have done something. An e-mail altert and free Master Quest for anyone who already bought Ocarina of Time would have been nice but the latter won't happen due to infastructure issues.
@ Mike. I didn't insult at all. I said that you'd do things that other people would interpret as flaws, I was implying that about everybody, not just you. It'd be the same for me, theres things that I do that other people would consider flaws. But can't we just enjoy the positives instead of pointing out the negatives? Do you really care how much Nintendo sells and what marketing moves they make or do you just want something to complain about? Honestly the worst marketing move the people at Ninty could ever make is catering to this website, there is so much more out there outside of this website, do you ever think of that? Do you ever think of the MAJORITY of people that will be buying these games and enjoying them that don't even watch the releases overseas?
Hopefully we'll get castlevania 3 before 2009.
Well, I did manage to get rid of the 300 points in my Wii Account by purchasing the Endless Mode for Mega Man 9. That's a positive. I've had that 300 points in there for over a year. I just want Castlevania 3 though. I love that game. Oh well, I'm going to play Endless Attack later, and then I'll play Majora's Mask on my Collector's Edition disk.
@post 65:
Part of the frustration comes from the fact that out of the past four weeks, three of them were one game weeks. That is pretty much piss-poor treatment of the VC.
I think that Nintendo would do well to create an interactive portal for all things VC. Maybe another channel for the Wii or an extension of the Nintendo channel. Offer up short vids and descriptions of several VC options in a tier system. Allow us to vote for the following Mondays releases. We would pick from a selection of several 'A' or 'B' list games, and then from a list of lesser know 'C' list titles that are perhaps very 'meh' for most but aren't terrible. That way Nintendo can unload suspect games and check them off of their list, and we would get more games that actually interest us as well as more choices, and multiple game weeks. And fewer flaming boards!
@Manicfatty
You just described what the Nintendo Channel should be
Anybody who complains is truely taking VC for granted, and lots of other things too I'm sure. I know people have "the right" to complain as someone put it, but its really not good for the soul. If you gave the games you already have a chance instead of getting numb to them and expecting new games there's alot of fun to be had.
fires up Super Mario Bros.
You guys in America, you get two WiiWare games a week, and you complain about the lack of VC games. You don't seem to realise that even if it's a one game week over there, you still get more than one game. If we get a one game week on this side of the ocean, it's only one game, 'cause NOE separates WW and VC weeks.
I understand that most people here prefer retro games to the stuff (ie, crap), that Nintendo uploads on WiiWare, but aren't I right in thinking that it gives you another game to play, if you don't like the first?
My other point is that they're probably saving the best games for December and the Christmas season, so people can send gifts, etc. They're probably just cleaning out some kind of pile of games right now. Most likely they have decent games like Majora's Mask, Earthbound, etc. ready to upload, they're just lagging everything out to keep people waiting, and half-excited.
Even if the other half is bored.
@Manicfatty: That idea is so brilliant, there's not a snowball's chance in hell it'll actually happen. Nintendo's track record for giving a fart what their customers want is just too poor.
@kevenz: I do NOT appreciate the way you just assume we're all lawbreakers who'll steal good stuff just because we're tired of waiting for real releases. I do not believe in the homebrew channel as a legitimate option for gaming, and I support Nintendo's efforts to shut it down (even if they seem to suck at that, too). So please leave us law-abiding citizens alone and go enjoy your pirating quietly.
As for Boogerman, I think it's a pretty good game. Probably should've been a 3-star like people have said, but I'll probably download it at some point. It's not good enough that I'll rush for a points card just for it, though, and I only have 600 points sitting on my Wii.
I'm getting tired of the arguments about whether we can or should complain about one-VC-game weeks. I don't like one-game weeks unless it's a quintuple-A game, so I would be miffed if we only got Castlevania III one week. See how much opinion affects things? I'd try my best to be happy for those that want that game, but I can't play any Castlevania made before Symphony of the Night. Now, if Earthbound was released, it could be the only game PERIOD (no WiiWare either), and I'd be insanely excited. There are too many variables to this situation, so it's easier to just complain about one-game weeks all the time. If Earthbound ever comes out, I'll probably post super-excitedly, but try to remember to leave a footnote of sympathy for people who didn't really want that game. I resent the totally selfish attitudes of some posters here, and do my best to think of others as well. But I'm not perfect either, so please don't cram this post down my throat if I act a little differently at some point.
@King Elemento - If the vast majority of Wiiware games weren't space-wasting utter crap, I'd probably be more likely to see your point of view. I'd actually PREFER separate dates for Wiiware and VC. I just hope you're right about Christmas, because the economy has hit hard and VC games are about as much as I'm willing to spend on gaming for a few months!!!
@Manicfatty:
I get your point, it is mostly space-wasting crap, I only have 2 WiiWare games (Ranch and Megaman), as opposed to 6 VC games, and actually waiting for some games to be put on the system.
As far as I'm concerned, Mondays should have WiiWare updates and Fridays have VC updates. As you said earlier, the Nintendo Channel should be more along the lines of a "What do you want uploaded" poll, than a Nintendo Youtube and a servey about games you've played. Right now, all it is to me is a place for a couple of DS demos.
thankfully i still have my NES and the good games for it, i just use the VC for import games now.
wow.... this is what we get.... a game about snot.
Heh, this game doesn't look like my thing but I've got some friends that like it. Might get it
I played this game when i was a kid i thought it was funny as hell. But ill have to think about downloadin it first.
Wow this sucks. I don't usually complain, but this is crap. I was delighted by MM3 a few weeks back, but I beat it in under 3 hours. I want CV3 damnit!!!!!
Haha what a mediocre game. This week didn't happened.
nothing for me this week.
(Fires up Chrono Trigger DS)
I totally forgot that's coming out tomorrow. (I'm on east coast) Oh well. My non wii shop channel spending days are over until after christmas. I stop buying retail games on the week of thanksgiving to give my parents something to get me so I can save some money.
Ugh! Well, we had to get it someday. I just wish it didn't have to be today.
Come on, where are Phantasy Star IV and Castlevania III?!? Is NOA just trying to f*** with us?
What about the Final fight seuels like 2 or 3
Heck I would have enen accepted Shadow Dancer
But a gross game for the week of Thanksgiving, gee what are they smoking back there.
LAME! its f**cking retarded honestly why are game selected ramdom here?
What are terrible week for a terrible game?
Whee...
Was this game necessary? Why can't Nintendo release the games we want not the games nobody wants. Hopefully next week we will get Castlevania III or Phantasy Star IV.
I´m waiting for Phantasy Star IV, but I haven´t played some of the EXCELLENT recent releases like shinning force 2, secret of mana. I think that we are having some slow weeks before we get real good stuff again.
looks at Japan Curse your good VC Selection!
Never played Boogerman but I'll stick with Earthworm Jim.
I'm also getting majorly dissapointed and still angry, fed up, you know I love to complain because there's NO CASTLEVANIA 3!!!
So here's hoping it comes out next week with Space Invaders Get Even on WiiWare December 1st (announced at WiiWare World now)!!
December better hold up and bring WAY BETTER VC games, and no 1 VC game a week CRAP!!!
@ Most-Excellent
Testify Brother! Preach on
I love how spoiled everyone is now. Just one, or two weeks of 'sup-par' releases and everyone is whining their arse's off like crazy since we had two, or even three, VERY GOOD MONTHS.
Get over it people, not every week had to be a (censored) golden egg.
I was going to pass on this week anyway, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix comes out wednesday for XBLA so my paycheck will go towards that.
BOOGERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Jolted85: Your paycheck will go "towards" one 10 or 15 dollar game (not sure which)? You need a bigger paycheck... Joking, of course. I hope.
Also, I'm jealous now. Bendover83 got Chrono Trigger DS early somehow, and I'm still waiting for it to come in at Gamestop...
What a boring one game week. This better not give a hint to what the rest of the months will be like.
A lame week, not my kind of game; as I mention before, I'm gessing we'll have to get used to one game weeks.
There's a big list of games that need to be released. This is not one of them.
.. You people are SO jaded nowadays. Here's the thing: Nintendo releases, people buy, wait a week, another game, etc. So it's sub-par, SO WHAT!? I'm waiting my butt off for more Kirby, and you don't see me b****ing saying, "where is it?" and "this sucks!" Really, you people can't wait a FEW weeks for a game you might like. News flash: it isn't all about _YOU, it about NINTENDO making fat stacks of cash! And Europe don't you get freaking craploads of ONE KIND EVERY TWO WEEKS. "I want it now!" and "America's so spoiled!" let's begin shall me, the average wiiware games for Europe is roughly 4 per month AT THE LEAST. America has 4 per month AT THE LEAST. Look, you just get everything in different concentrations, GOD FORBID it looks like someone's getting pampered from getting some quality once in a while. BIG WHOOP! Look, I'm not excusing Nintendo(in all regions) for their mishaps and bad habits they're seeming to game. But you all are getting jaded and immature OVER GAMES THAT ARE DISTRIBUTED ON A REGULAR BASIS. No, let's just have 1 Wiiware or virtual console games that is in your eyes quality, SCREWING those who might not like it bi-monthly so it will please all your freaking worries because they're only releasing games that YOU like! Frog out...
But for every game not on that list, the more likely a game actually on the list the following week. Undesirable games still have to be released at some point
@FroguinZX's comment #98:
PREACH ON!!!
And LOOK, now I'm comment #100, man that's a bunch!!
I wholeheartedly apologise to anyone who did not deserve that rant, and I appreciate that you quietly wait for what Nintendo releases every week, and to those who at least don't complain. glares at NA & EU
Why can't Nintendo release the games we want not the games nobody wants.
Ugh...I HATE comments like these because of the silly generalization that NOBODY wants the games.
Hmm, I have a question: last year, when we got three VC games each week, were those of you who are mad now frustrated back then? Many of you are probably answering you wish we got three VC games a week, and I understand that; I just want to point out once again we still usually get a total of three games each week. Sometimes we only get one VC game and we just have to deal with it. It sucks, but oh well, we're still getting three games.
As for me, in the absence of games that appealed to me this week, I finally bought SMRPG so I'll be set for awhile.
And finally, c'mon people, there's absolutely no need to use cuss words. It makes it look like your keyboard is ****ed up--ahem--I mean messed up.
Not a good week, but someone will enjoy it.
What's with the 1 gmae, or 2 poor game releases. Megaman 3 is the only REALLY good game lately.
Wiiware isn't much better this week either....
Well, at least you guys get VC updtaes every week.
Boogerman...I remember that game. It was very fun. But I dunno if I would like to spend on it nowadayas.
Oh well. I hope next week we see bette relases.
Let me be the first person in the universe to say I'm acctually pleased an obscure (and funny) title like Boogerman is on VC. I'm rather disapointed it's not the SNES version though, wich had better graphics, and sound. (In my opinion, at least.)
Also if you think the game sounds disgusting, there are much more vulgar games out there, that are acctually widelly praised. (Such as Duke Nukem, and Conkor's Bad Fur Day.) So compared to stuff nowadays, Boogerman isn't really that edgey.
Though, I will say it does seem to get annoying when we onley get one VC game a week, when there's so many popular or overlooked-yet-good games (like Plok) out there that have yet to reach the VC.
Yeah, I agree completely with the people complaining about the complainers.
There's only so many games that are available to be released, if Nintendo were to release all of the good ones one after another that would leave a LONG period of dead space where we'd get nothing but crappy games one after another. Trust me, Nintendo has a much greater chance of selling their sub-par games by releasing them in between the releases of the above average ones(DKC) and the stellar ones(SMRPG/Manna
@Beau Skunk: "Plok"
Yes.
[Phooooooooooooooooothbthbthbtt!]
What BB Sting said.
@105 your concetration bi-weekly is better than ours. It evens out. But for another main topic at hand with subpar releases I can't exactly excuse Nintendo for it but I can certainly understand for a reason stated above, now as for WiiWare, it is certainly getting disappointing now. I know Nintendo can't have spectacular releases every week, but this is getting just sad. I personally believe they shouldn't theme their Wii-kly updates. Because if you go to press.nintendo.com you can tell before the initial announcement of the games at hand, match a certain theme. This week was single player theme. I'm not going to dog them but we all know they should make a few revisions instead of these themes that alienate people.
I am giving up on Castlevania III for now, last night I downloaded World of Goo and Bomberman Blast and I am enjoying them both. Maybe when Castlevania III is announced on the Japanese VC list we can expect it here sometime soon.
Maybe I should clarify my ranting. I am not unhappy they put a obscure game on the VC. (although I am not interested in it) I am unhappy that NOA did not pair it with another great game. Boogerman is like Sky Kid, it does not stand well as a single VC game release.
I guess we should know by the end of the week what NOJ has in store for us next
This game looks so lame.. What's fun about farts?
@kevenz: I do NOT appreciate the way you just assume we're all lawbreakers who'll steal good stuff just because we're tired of waiting for real releases. I do not believe in the homebrew channel as a legitimate option for gaming, and I support Nintendo's efforts to shut it down (even if they seem to suck at that, too). So please leave us law-abiding citizens alone and go enjoy your pirating quietly.
Can you spot the illegal in this? I own the Sonic games on the Megadrive. I own them on the gamecube Sonic Mega Collection. I play them via emulator on the homebrew channel as Sonic Mega Collection has retarded unlocking conditions...(though I would just grab a save off the internet if I hadn't gone the homebrew route)
I effectively own the games not once but twice. Sure to make it legally perfect i'd have needed to dump the Megadrive ROMs but in the real world nobody cares about that...
As for not beliving the homebrew channel is legitimate. You're telling me import Gamecube and Wii games are illegitimate?
@#98. Looks like somebody forgot to take their meds today.
I guess I can live for another crappy week. I just got MM9 a few weeks ago, which is keeping me plenty busy, and I still have ways to go in SMRPG and Secret of Mana. I also have Orbient and some other recent purchases I still need to get through too.
@Starwolf_UK: Yeah, I guess I am. If your system isn't supposed to play those games, and you modify it so it will, that's illegitimate, by definition. I'm sick of region coding in the first place, but still...
Regarding the Sonic games, the copyrights are renewed every time the game is released so TECHNICALLY, you're still breaking the law. And stealing the game, regardless of how many different versions you have, is still stealing. Regardless of how you try to justify it, Nintendo would still prosecute in the same way, as they can prove damages. The only ROM's I use are for games that were NEVER released here, like Mother 3. And like I've said before, I don't mind using ROM's as a test for a game you're iffy about, but you have to be prepared to buy it if you like it, and delete the ROM.
Really, I'm not trying to impose my own ideas of righteousness on you TOO much. I just want people to be aware of what they're REALLY doing, and I'm not afraid to voice my personal distaste for that kind of thing. If you want to keep using it, go ahead! Not like I could stop you if I wanted to. The post you quoted was really started by me being offended that he just ASSUMED I'd be willing to use homebrew. I'm not. So please, do not take offense, as this was not meant to be an attack on anybody but kevenz (for making that dumb, insulting assumption).
I effectively own the games not once but twice.
So you can walk into a store and grab as many copies as you want of that same game and walk out withou paying for them just because you own the game already? because you're doing the online equivalent.
No because if you went into the store and grabbed the game company and the store itself are both losing money where as if you download it for free nobody is losing any money at all
and why did this come out? because it's cold season here in America? I had a cold just last week
if you download it for free the publisher is losing money in the form of license revenues. They don't lose inventory costs, but it's still a loss.
I am all about obscure games being released. I don't think I'll download this one but it does give me some more hope that other obscure titles I want may get released....
been feeling a bit snotty this weekend just gone myself
C'mon. Are you really surprised that NOA picked this one and flicked it at us? (Sorry; couldn't resist)
@stinssd: Nobody here SHOULD be surprised this game came out, as it was announced a while back right alongside Earthworm Jim. People are just still upset that it's the ONLY VC game we got.
@HeikeKagero: Yeah, what Sharecrow said. The only way nobody's losing money off your download is if the game isn't even available on VC yet, nor is there any version of it available new at retail (so no downloading a Chrono Trigger ROM, the DS game's coming out/is out now). So in such cases, I can't blame people for downloading ROM's of games that'll NEVER be re-released (in all likelihood, anyway), such as any licensed game (Tiny Toons, Disney, whatever) or a super-obscure game that hasn't shown up on the VC radar yet.
I know I'm probably confusing some people by trying to introduce these gray areas into the rules, but it's really rather simple if you think about it. If there's any reasonable way that Nintendo can make any amount of money off of your purchase of a game, retail or download, and you download it elsewhere for free, it hurts them and is illegal.
I hope my posts on this subject may have clarified a thing or two for some people who may have wanted to know.
Stuffgamer1
I should've rephrased that statement I made, my check is much bigger than that, I wouldn't keep the job if it wasn't.
@Jolted85: Oh, to be sure. Like I said, it was just a small joke at your expense because your wording was so bad.
Waaah all we got was Boogerman, this suuuuucks. Nintendo gives us a bunch of good games in September and October, and now we get this, I hate Nintedo 4eva Im srs guys.
This game is probably better than SMRPG, which almost everyone wanted but since Boogeman isn't named Mario, I will cry while proceeding to consider downloading it just to see how it is, and test my hunch that it is better than SMRPG
Well people that downloaded ROMS most of the time wouldn't have bought it anyway.
This is a fun game by the way.
@HeikeKagero: That's not a very good attitude. Like I said, I've downloaded the occasional ROM, but only when there was no good way to get the game legit! I know I'm not the only person in the world like that...
This game is probably better than SMRPG, which almost everyone wanted but since Boogeman isn't named Mario, I will cry while proceeding to consider downloading it just to see how it is, and test my hunch that it is better than SMRPG
Its not. They did. It would still be a poor Mario platform game even if they changed the graphics completely to a traditional Mario style and left none of Boogerman's attitude but still kept the gameplay the same. And where did his hunch originate from? Can't just be pulled out of thin air.
Virtual Console games are not new games. Many people here have played the games already and therefore know which games are good, average or bad. Games' reputations are accurate.
Yeah, I noticed this on the "coming soon" list as a really odd duck. I'm sure Earthworm Jim's humor aged better than this.
I'm kind of surprised so many people want Conker's Bad Fur Day--a game I'm not sure I'm proud to say I played all the way through (and again, dated, juvenile humor). Should I lighten up a little?
Europe needs three games to match the US tomorrow for VC releases throughout November. But even with the two games we already got this month, I think we still done better. Phantasy Star IV alone is better than Spacer Invaders, Forgotten Worlds and Boogerman. And Conker is a good playable game despite the crude humor, Boogerman isn't.
Well I don't support downloading of ROMS, I was just stating what usually happens.
and this game is really not even bad at all. All the people bashing it probably never even played it.
I'd love to read a probing interview with the guys who decide the VC games.
I'm most definitely NOT proud that I played all the way through Conker, and I believe that Boogerman is FAR more playable overall. And HeikeKagero's right. Boogerman is a good game. Don't be put off by its gross setting and humor. Of course Boogerman would make a poor Mario platformer! The gameplay wasn't designed to be the same! When have you ever seen Mario swing across vines, for example (not counting baby DK in Yoshi's Island DS)? Doesn't really happen. Sure, the toilets are a gross pipe rip-off, but everything else about the game, with the snot meter and play style is different! Unique, and quite fun imo.
When have you ever seen Mario swing across vines,
Donkey Kong '94
I thought Conker was one of the better Nintendo 64 games. It was more linear than most platformers of the day.
ESRB update:
Nobunaga'a Ambition
Uncharted Waters: New Horizons
@Bass X0: Touche. I should've remembered that, as it's one of my favorite Gameboy games. Guess I didn't think of it because I don't think of it as a platformer, but more like an action-puzzle game (in fact, my first impressions of Toki Tori reminded me of it, though there are noteworthy differences, of course).
Nice ESRB notice, I guess. An NES strategy game with a PS2 sequel (quite a gap there...) that I know next to nothing about, and a SNES game I have but don't really like. And both from Koei, I see. That same research to confirm publisher also revealed that Nobunaga is actually a long-running series in Japan that we've only gotten a very small number of in America. Kinda like Goemon, but doesn't interest me as much. Still, good eye. Weird you check it, seeing as the ESRB doesn't even rate for your region. Hardly seems any point expecting releases just because the other guys get them anymore...
Edit: Even FURTHER research shows that we've gotten more of the series than I thought, and another comes on PS2 in January. Also, games with the title "Nobunaga's Ambition" have been released on NES, SNES, and Genesis. Which one is VC getting?
I'm jealous.
I really wish Nintendo would update Donkey Kong '94 for WiiWare like Two Tribes did for Toki Tori. Modern 2D graphics and extra content to the original.
And I don't know which version it is, its just what some guy on GameFAQs said.
don't know if it's been mentioned but the esrb has also rated the genesis/megadrive version of super street fighter II: The new challengers.
Cool....Nobunaga's Ambition!
I downloaded it and seriously I'd say SMRPG barely edges it out, I'd give this 6/10, and SMRPG 6.5/10, this has better gameplay though.
I guess we're probably getting whatever the latest English-released version of the game was. Koei usually just updates the graphics and adds a slew of new stuff to their older games instead of producing true sequels, and they gave us RotTK4 without having us sit through it's previous iterations first.
When have you ever seen Mario swing across vines, for example?
Donkey Kong '94
He also swung on vines in Mario vs. Donkey Kong and New Super Mario Bros.
Games with the title "Nobunaga's Ambition" have been released on NES, SNES, and Genesis. Which one is VC getting?
The SNES version.
Hooray! We get 2 new games ESRB rated! One I haven't heard of and the other I don't care about! Yaaay!
Well of course Mario vs. Donkey Kong. That was basically Donkey Kong '94 2, y'know? Though I played all the way through New Super Mario Bros., I don't remember the vines. That was two years ago, and my memory isn't that good. Why did people get so hung up on the vines, anyway? That was meant as a general example of how Boogerman is different. If you've played Boogerman, you know it doesn't play the same as a Mario game. THAT was the point.
How do you know it's the SNES version? Not to doubt you, but the ESRB site doesn't specify. As it goes, I don't care about either of these games. Not a big Koei fan.
@139. Viral
Why? You can have Boogerman, if we can have Castlevania 3.
I would assume that they are the SNES versions since Koei already released RotTK IV for SNES and probably want all the other titles they release to be the SNES version. Same thing with Interplay releasing there games on Genesis.
Anyway I will only say it one more time. This is a good game and it's actually fun. There are other titles that are out that are better but this is still good.
@Stuffhgamer. He swung on vines in a few of the world 4 levels, but that's besides the point. I knew what you were trying to get at.
As for the knowing that we're getting the SNES version of Nobunaga's Ambition, just go the "coming soon" page and click on NA. There will be a big ol' box with "Super Nintendo Entertainment System" written on it on the top of the page.
Mario swings on vines in Mario Party 3
Bah another hour before europe release
space invaders, metal slug 2 and forgotten worlds this week for us.
@Mr. Cheez: Well that begs the question "how did the guys who put that info on this site know?" To which I expect the answer is they assumed, just as a few people have posted here. They're probably right, I guess. I'd care more if we were talking about one of the classic Nintendo games they released the wrong version of (like Yoshi's Cookie and Wario's Woods). But...whatever.
as a kid, i loved this game! but nowadays it's probably really lame
I just wanted to quote somebody since you guys still haven't figured out how, for some reason.
No reason for them not to release some more quality games. They have really sunk in my eyes. Nintendo used to at least mean quality to me. Now they have just came up with a new plan. Make a cheap system, make a million cheap games and unfortunately, its working for them as they are just raking in the dough.
I also wanted to add that I haven't bought anything for the Wii or even so much as turned it on in several months.
Actually thinking of modding it or selling it on Ebay. Why pay or wait for crappy games when I can just download all 758 NES games in 10 seconds as well as almost every other game on a bunch of other systems.
"Well guess what, buying old games is quite nerdy too."
Not as nerdy as hacking.
Also, I don't think it's right to illegaly hack into a system's code. I prefer to get my games the honest way, even if it does take weeks upon weeks.
@ STEADY MOBBIN 22
I was holding out hope that Nintendo getting back on top would mean more taking chances, and games that didn't skimp on production values. I knew it was coming, but I'm not happy to hear about the "Wii 2" already.
When Wii 1 was put to market to use regular size CDs (finally) and offer not even MUSIC CD support, much less DVD support....... and short in so many other areas as well (such as hard drive capacity and output video resolution)......... I've been a bit slow in coming around to it but it's become clear to me that this was a rush job to keep up with the other two Joneses (same cause as that of the Red Ring of Death %'s on that OTHER system) and strictly a test ground for their motion sensing equipment and software, as well as a way to nab some dough off people while Big N buys time to put out a proper modern gen console.
And I fell for it right along with so many others.
Oh well......I'll hold tight to what great VC games I've gotten out of my Wii, and seriously question if I'll ride their ride again when Wii 2 comes out, and that quite soon ( and probably closer Xbox360 Pro an PS3 price ranges when N finally puts out a proper system).
Or as Snoopy would put it .........Bleaaaaaaaaah.
