Nintendo has started 2008 with a bang by outselling nearest rival Sony by 3-to-1. After a storming year in 2007, with both the Wii and DS topping their respective markets, the veteran videogame company started the new year in the same fashion, effortlessly dominating the competition and basically making lots of lovely money in the process.

Japanese magazine Enterbrain reports that the Nintendo shifted 479,931 Wii consoles in the four weeks up to January 27th, compared to 165,719 units of the PS3.

These figures are impressive, but bear in mind these numbers are reflective of the market BEFORE Smash Bros Brawl was available. The game is already one of the hits of 2008 and is likely to create even more demand for Nintendo’s successful home console.
