EA today announced that they have signed seven professional soccer stars to grace the cover of their popular sports game, when FIFA 07 is released later this year.
The cover will be determined by regions, so if you live in the UK you'll get a British star on the cover, if you live in Germany you'll get a German etc. But in addition to the local star, all the covers will be featured by the Brazilian star Ronaldinho. He plays club soccer for the Spanish club FC Barcelona and is a big fan of the series.
L.A. Galaxy striker Landon Donovan and Francisco Fonseca of SL Benfica will be featured alongside Ronaldinho on the cover in North America while Wayne Rooney of Manchester United will be on the cover in the United Kingdom, Lukas Podolski of Bayern Munich in Germany, David Villa of Valencia in Spain and Juninho Pernambucano of Olympique Lyonnais in France.
EA Sports told IGN the following:
"EA SPORTS works with the best players in the world to develop the most authentic soccer games and we are particularly proud of this year's line-up in FIFA 07," said Clive Downie, Vice-President of Marketing, EA Europe. "Every player who will grace the cover of FIFA 07 is renowned as one of the best at his position in the world, and we are offering a line-up which would be a match for any team past or present." (EA seems to forget that one of the players is American )
EA also announced that they are renewing their licensing deals with the FA Premier League and the Mexican 1st division for an additional four years.
FIFA 07 is scheduled for release on October 3.
