Wi-Fi Wii Details Accidentally Leaked?

Posted by Thomas Bowskill

Thats what the current rumor is, thanks to a number of people who stumbled onto a "hidden" page of Nintendo's Wii website.

This page contained some interesting news regarding online play and a couple of the games.

The biggest news surrounded the two games that were mentioned to have online play. They were Super Smash Brothers Brawl (referred to as Super Smash Brothers Dojo) and Tony Hawks Downhill Jam. This would be a dream come true for many Nintendo fans, we must realize though that nothing is confirmed by Nintendo so don't go getting your hopes up just yet

Key points mentioned about Wii Wi-Fi:

  • Its free - We already knew that one
  • Friend Codes will be used - There was nothing on whether these are unique to each game or system
  • A Wireless Router will be required - This seems dubious, but possible. Looks like a Nintendo will have to make more wireless adapters.

I must stress that none of this has been confirmed and it may not be genuine. Even if this page is indeed true, it is yet to be officially live on the Nintendo server, so we cannot rule out the possibility of details changing.

If this does turn out to be true, Nintendo will be in a very good position to tackle the might that is Xbox Live.

[Update]
Well I have actually managed to find a link that worked and have viewed this page with my own eyes. The link is not on Nintendo's site, so its credibility is reduced drastically. But apparently the reason for this is that a Nintendo employee decided to store it in another location, again this is still an unconfirmed rumor. It does look like it could be True, but there is still the chance of it being a very good hoax.

Masterless, we already knew it was going to be Wi-Fi, it'll work the same as the DS does. Whats the problem? Wireless Access Points don't cost alot ;)

The more I look at this, the more I wonder how reliable this could be.

I do hate it when there is no concrete proof, that site is just a subdomain, right?

Well, it does appear as if the site was live on wii.nintendo.com for a while, so someone must have uploaded a copy or soemthing.
