Announced earlier this year, Nintendo decided the DS needed a little bit of a revamp. The re-designed DS, dubbed DS Lite is smaller, lighter and brighter than its older brother. After a strong Japanese launch, US retailers have continued the trend last week with the North American launch.

"Just two days after Nintendo DS Lite went on sale in the United States on June 11, the new lighter, brighter portable system sold more than 136,500 units, with many retail outlets reporting sellouts."

According to Nintendo the DS Lite is outpacing the launch of the GBA: SP by more than 12%. Games sales have also been inflated by the DS Lite launch with Brain Age sales tripling and New Super Mario Bros sales doubling.

Don't forget the DS Lite launches in the UK this Friday, June 23rd.
