DS To Feature In Stormbreaker Movie

Posted by Anthony Dickens

Nintendo's portable wonder to appear in upcoming teen spy thriller movie "Stormbreaker".

Nintendo has today announced its agreement with movie producers which will enable the DS to have an appearance as "the ultimate spy gadget" in the new "Stormbreaker" movie based on the first book in the popular Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz.

"After the murder of his uncle and guardian, the MI6 British spy agency recruits the reluctant 14-year-old Alex Rider to take over his uncle's mission. Like any good spy, during training he receives his key piece of gadgetry: a Hot Rod Red Nintendo DS. He also gets several game cards that transform his DS into an eavesdropping device, a wiretap detector or a smoke bomb."

Wait, hold on - wasn't the DS supposed to be for games and games only? Obviously the film execs missed that.

"The film stars Alex Pettyfer as Alex Rider, with Sarah Bolger, Robbie Coltrane, Stephen Fry, Damian Lewis, Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy, Sophie Okonedo, Missi Pyle, Andy Serkis, Alicia Silverstone, Ashley Walters and Mickey Rourke."

That's quite an impressive array of talent as far as Hollywood goes, however it looks like the movie didn't quite have enough budget for poor Alex to have a brand new DS Lite.

The movie is set for release in the UK on July 21st and Oct 6th in the USA, you can check out the trailer for the movie on the official site.
