Nintendo yesterday announced the forthcoming Tetris title for Nintendo DS. Those funny shaped blocks are back in true DS style boasting lots of new features that are only possible with Nintendo DS hardware.

The basis of the block based puzzle game will remain the same. However, six new gameplay modes have been added, each being based on a popular Nintendo series such as Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda and Metroid. The touch screen will also add a new level of interactivity, say Nintendo.

Wireless play against friends will also be possible, such as head-to-head matches between 2 players and massive 10 player battles. Gamers also have the option to login with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to play online in two or four player battles. Similar to Mario Kart DS, Tetris DS includes a point-based rating system based on players' battle results. "Opponents can see one another's ratings, which indicate their skill levels", claims Nintendo.

This ever popular puzzle game will launch on March 20th.
