In the lead-up to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma were keeping mum on whether or not Link's iconic green tunic would turn up in the game, opting instead to focus on Link's new look - a blue shirt dubbed the Champion's Tunic. Gone was the green cap and tunic the hero had become known for, or so we thought. Instead of including a single tunic the team opted instead for a whopping five of them, covering some of Link's various looks dating all the way back to the NES - and we've found out how to get them all.
It's important to mention that all of these green tunics offer the same bonus, which is a power-up to the Master Sword's beam attack, which has been revived in Breath of the Wild. If you have the Master Sword, try throwing it and you'll see what we mean. The green tunics all share the same stats as well, save for the exception of the final tunic unique to Breath of the Wild. The throwback tunics all max out at 20 defense apiece, putting them in line with some of the better gear in the game - though they're still outstripped by some of the best standard equipment, including Link's new Champion Tunic. Each of these, with one notable exception, are unlocked through repeated use of the associated amiibo, which we'll list out for you under each costume. There are additional green tunics that cannot yet be unlocked, but have been revealed through datamining. We've opted not to include those unti we've been able to independently verify the method to unlocking them, but we suspect they'll also be made available through the use of as-yet-unreleased amiibos.

Hero of the Wild Set
The Hero of the Wild set is unlike the others. To unlock it, you'll need to clear all 120 shrines, which is no small feat. For clearing them you get an additional 8 defense points on this set, which means each piece clocks in at 28 when fully upgraded, granting you a whopping 84 defense when fully equipped. In addition to that, the Hero of the Wild set retains the Master Sword beam upgrade seen on all the other tunics.

Hero of the wild!
Oh thank the goddesses BotW Link has his own green tunic! Though getting it is going to be a challenge.
So far I have the hat from 8-Bit Link, the tunic from Ocarina of Time and the Wind Waker trousers. I have enough to dress Link like a classic hero, at least! Nothing at all from my last amiibo scans
What makes little sense to me though, is with the emphasis on survival and stealthily sneaking up on enemies, why they gave him a bright blue shirt as his standard look?! Hardly camouflage is it? The green outfit would make a lot more sense than in any other game for pure practicalities. Blue would've been good in Wind Waker
I've scanned in the Wind Waker Link to look how it looks on him. But nah, my red-brownish outfit is still looking the best on ol Linky imo. But I'm aiming to complete the game anyway so I'll get the Hero of the Wild outfit down the line.

You're missing the Hero of the Sky set which is unlocked by the unreleased Skyward Sword Link amiibo. And while I'm here there's Fierce Diety set which is unlocked by the unreleased Majora's Mask Link amiibo.
So the only way to get it is with a amiibo? Thats a bummer. I don't have any amiibo because i dont see the point of collecting those things.
How do you get the Hero of the Wild outfit? Are they just in the shrines or are they all given to you once you beat the last one?
The only thing that happens when I scan an amiibo is that Link holds up the Slate. Am I missing something?
There's something cool about the Ocarina of Time outfit, and it's not even (quite) my favourite Zelda. I think it's the way the gauntlets balance it out.

Make sure amiibo is switched on in your settings. Select the amiibo option on the Slate's powers and press L as if you are using a Slate Rune Power. An aiming circle will appear on the ground and if you scan an amiibo, the rewards will fall from the sky around the aiming circle. (this is for Switch, not sure if it's the same for Wii U)

I wasn't aiming at the ground, so that was probably my problem. I was also on top of a tower, I wonder if that is also an issue.

You never know if the clothes have higher stats than your current in-game clothes, so I'm still not interested.
Edit: Changed my mind because I read that every amiibo clothing item has 20 defense, so I'll buy the Ocarina of Time - Link amiibo when it gets restocked!
Out of all those outfits, I like the coloring and hair of the hero cap and tunic the best. I'm glad I own the 8-Bit Link amiibo. Although I'm not sure I understand the black shorts. I don't recall Link wearing black in any games, especially not the 8-bit or 16-bit ones.
