It's kind of difficult, but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying it. Some parts can be really annoying if you don't know how to dash, or if you haven't purchased one of the special abilities.
I liked it. The lives system is stupid though since you lose a life every time you die but get them refilled if you run out, they only matter on boss levels. The lives should have been removed and it should just give you two lives once you make it to a boss.
It's decent, but not anywhere near New Adventure Island on TG16 or Adventure Island 2: Aliens in Paradise on GB. I think it might have been better to stick with a more 16-bit look to it, but that's just me.
I personally like the look. I don't know why others don't seem to. I like the way the first boss looks too. I really like the "2.5D look. @KnucklesSonic8- Think it's a decent game so far. I've only been playing the mini games today, because this apparently only saves one game(that's my main problem with this), from what I can see so far, and my fiance and I are playing together under her save.
@Corbie- so you don't like this as much as those other two. Why?
I really think it's fine I don't see a problem with it other that I can't save two games and I can't always keep the speed that I want on the skateboard bonus game. Also on that part I'd hit sonething when I thought I should have cleared it. Oh. His walk seems like a glide, too. I didn't have a problem with it and I'd have to play again to see how his run was. I think he slids a little when you try to stop suddenly from a run. I didn't really seem to have any problems contolling him. I think this game is terrific and I like the graphics too, especially the bosses. I really don't see why people are being so hard on this, unless the just want it old school. I read somewhere that someone wanted this to be 8 bit (if I remember right, i think im right, but could be mistaken.) I'm glad they didn't do that. I don't know why they'd want that except maybe nostalgia. If it's nostalgia, the could just get one of the older games.
Any way, I hope you get this, I'd like to see how you feel about it. I think you would like it. I couldn't possibly imagine you regretting buying this. I think it's one of the better Wiiware titles.
-Do you already like any of the adventure islands? One thing that is different from one the first ones (NES?) is that you can buy better abilitys. I liked that, though I think some people don't. Of course if you want it to be harder, just don't buy the "upgrades".
I downloaded both AI and BB+ last week, and I must say that if I wasn't such an AI fan to begin with, I may not have enjoyed it much. I can see why people think it feels unpolished, not only with the animations in the game, but I know that I was a bit peeved that I can't see the Master Higgins Feats (I know it shows you how many you have, but I don't think you can see which ones you have done.) Anyways, if you are a fan of the series, I think it isn't a huge let down, but part of me wishes I would of downloaded New Adventure Island.
So you don't think the controls are a little... sloppy or loose, LTG? I'm asking because some of the motions used in the game seemed to be a bit of an off-set. Like when he's running and he kinda slides a bit and is about to fall off because of it. Or when he's walking, then starts running, then drops speed again. That's what I meant by fluidity.
I keep hesitating to get it. Although, the Wi-Fi Rankings and the Achievements keep trying to appeal to me.
I don't think so. The controls seem fine to me. I had a time when I was too close to an edge, when I landed after a jump, and fell off. From what I can tell anytime I got killed or hurt it was not from bad or sloppy controls. He does slide at the end of a run, but not bad. It's intentional. Let's say this, I run through a bit of the levels (Your life meter constantly goes down, so you need to eat and git.) and move fast on some of the jumping levels and if I get hurt hurt or miss a jump, I believe it's because I messed up. There is a level where I think I can get a golden melon by hanging off a ledge, but I haven't taken the risk yet, so I don't know if the controls would suck there.
edit- I did have trouble keeping a constant fast speed, I believe, when I was trying to do a faster time on the skateboard minigame. You controlled the speed and direction by tilting the wiimote. Be easier if they had used a button for the speed. I do like controlling it by tilting, but it's tough for me to constantly keep the speed I want. Have to concentrate on how I'm holding the remote.
i never liked the adventure island series at all. i hated the whole concept of "eating fruit in order to survive" gameplay. but still it's a platformer and i was hungry and couldnt wait so i bought it. was it worth it? even if you hated the series, the anwser would be hell yes. what made me like it so much is the upgrades. it really does make this game feel different from the other titles before it. but finally the best part, the old school challenge. wow this game can be a challenge. if your like me, this game will challenge your reason to live. i wanted to actually throw my controller!!! can you believe it? i haven't had that sensation since umm, the NES.the more you play it the better you get and when you do finally get to the end of a level (after the 100th time of falling into a bottomless pit)its very rewarding. this a one decent platformer thats all you really need to know. it's worth 8 bucks thats for sure. just remember to collect gold melons and buy upgrades unless you like old school games with brutal challenges that only a mother could love.
