As many of you know, there are several high-profile announced WiiWare games that we've been waiting to see for over a year with little news. I've looked through the devolepers websites for the latest updates on these games.

BurgerTime World Tour
Developer: Monkey Paw
Released in Europe and North America

Descent
Developer: Interplay
Their website's release schedule has recently been updated with a 2012 release date now listed for Descent. I recently e-mailed Interplay on the subject, and they responded saying it's still in development.
Update: While the title has never been cancelled, it's very unlikely to see the light of day at this point, and Interplay hasn't given updates on ANYTHING in over six months.

La-Mulana
Developer: Nicalis
The WiiWare version is cancelled unless they can find a new publisher!
The game was finally released in both North America and Europe after EnjoyUp Games took over publishing duties

Night Sky
Developer: Nicalis
The game is still prominantly featured on their website, but they've got a broken link for the game's blog.
It will be released on the 3DS e-Shop instead of WiiWare.

Protocol
Developer: Sabarasa
A trailer for the game was recently revealed with a message saying "Coming Soon." Sabarasa's website doesn't have any new information.
It will be released on a different as of yet unspecified platform instead of WiiWare.

Retro City Rampage
Developer: Vblank
On Christmas, their blog was updated to say that development on the game itself is "nearly done."
Update: The game will be submitted for approval near the end of February.
Update: Vblank has released an e-mail newsletter claiming the game will be released in May.
Update: The release date has been pushed back to summer.
Released in North America and Europe.

Rush Rush Rally Racing
Developer: RedSpotGames
Released in Europe
Update: Has an ESRB rating suggesting a Q2 2013 release in North America.

Stonekeep
Developer: Interplay
Released in North America
Update: As with Descent, we have heard nothing from Interplay as to a potential European release or if the company is even still alive.

Super Motherlode
Developer: XGen
The last update for the game on their website was on November 1, but there's no information on how close they are to completion.
Update: A teaser video was released on January 27.
Update: A demo of the game was shown off at a gaming event on March 22.
The WiiWare version is cancelled.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I was looking forward to that Burgertime game. I still might check it out if it comes to Wii but it doesn't look like the Xbox version was reviewed too favorably.

Indeed, it's probably best for people to play the original on the Gameboy on the 3DS Virtual Console.

Not only does the 3DS come with an SD card, but it also happens to come pre-installed with one, additional dimension.

I know NightSky was announced for the 3DS eShop, I haven't heard anything about the WiiWare version since 2009, which is disappointing. La Mulana and Retro City Rampage are taking forever to complete, though.

Stonekeep? Descent?! How come I've never heard of those before? I mean - I know the PC originals of old, of course I do, but I was never aware that they are being re-made for wiiware. Or are those simply some dirty ports of classc DOS games, in which case it's best to just get them on GOG?

I just wanted La-Mulana and Retro City Rampage. After that I'm done with Wiiware.
Seems these developers just don't care much to release them.

I have a feeling Retro City Rampage is exclusive to Xbox Live Arcade now. Whenever I see trailers, they never show the Wii logo at the end.

You can see with MDK it's not just ports. They take the time to optimize the game for Wii and Wii Remote. It's a port in the sense that it's the same game, but it's a clean transition to the format.

It's because they gave them timed exclusivity, but they developed the version for WiiWare (they actually began with it) and it says so prominently on the website.

I wonder if Last flight will ever come out. The last gameplay trailer may have looked crap but its been a while since then so if it is still coming, they've had a long time to improve it and it looks like it has the potential to be a pretty good game.

Looks like we can cross off Stonekeep from the list

and yeah, the developer will probably do anything to keep the game on Wiiware, since it's a blatant 8-bit nostalgiariffic game.

I thought Nightsky was dropped for WiiWare and instead, moved to 3DS...?

Whatever became of that Butterfly Garden game that was announced way back before WiiWare even launched?

Everyone knows NightSky has been available for a while on Steam, right?

Check out my classy comics.

That's not the original...it's a very different experience!

The game was released on the HD consoles in November. The website says a WiiWare release is still planned, but there are no recent updates available on it.

Coming to EU this week.

By the way, Vblank says they'll submit Retro City Rampage for approval in about 3 weeks from now.

Yeah, but not everyone has Steam or wants to play it on their computer. I can only speak for myself, but my computer would explode if I tried to run a game on it.
