Hey NLife! I'm looking for some core/hardcore games to download to my Wii(WiiWare and Virtual Console). Any recommendations?

Castlevannia and FF2 TA should fit that bill.

I don't understand the question. What is a core game again?

Something challenging, adventurous, rather dark themed?
Try Robox, Anima: Ark of Sinners, World of Goo, LIT, or Rage of the Gladiator.

Something deep you can lose hours into?
FFCC My Life as a King, Military Madness Nectaris.

Blood and alien splatter inclusive online (that every real CORE!!!!1 game needs)?
TORIBASH: Violence Perfected and Onslaught!

Retro Racing and Laser Light Speed Sci-Fi Boosting?
RUSH RUSH RALLY RACING, Art Style light trax and FAST Racing League.

Do you want more core?

thank you for saying that, Guy Whose Name Lacks Vowels

I've been trying to not get angry at someone using the term "core games" unironically

I would say the Bit.Trip games, Lilt Line, Art Style light trax, Contra Rebirth, and Rage of the Gladiator are about as hard-core as you're going to get on WiiWare.

Yes, the pigeon-holing of all games into either "core" or "casual" categories is yet another one of the many idiotic things that Microsoft has brought to the VG industry this generation. I shake my head everytime I have to fill out a Club Nintendo survey and it asks whether I thought the game was more core or casual. (Then I answer by flipping a coin.) I don't care if a game is more "core" or "casual", I just care that it's fun to play!

Mega Man 10 is an awesome hardcore WiiWare game. Cave Story, AYIM, and World of Goo are great hardcore games too, except you could find those 3 games for a lot less on your PC.

For the Virtual Console you could check out The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Monster World IV, Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, and Strider.

...in my pants.

700pts WiiWare:

Ant Nation
Astro Bugz Revenge (NA ONLY)
Big Kahuna Party (NA ONLY)
Carnival King (NA ONLY)
Cocoto Fishing Master
Cocoto Platform Jumper
ColorZ
Chronos Twins DX (EU ONLY)
Fantasy Slots (NA ONLY)
Gyrostarr (NA ONLY)
Pearl Harbor Trilogy
Pop
Space Trek (NA ONLY)
Target Toss Pro: Bags (NA ONLY)
Target Toss Pro: Lawn Darts (NA ONLY)
The Mystery of Whiterock Castle
Trenches Generals
VIP Casino Blackjack (NA ONLY)
Violin Paradise
101-in-1 Explosive Megamix
5 Arcade Gems

The Turbografx imports are 700pts as well, or you could get a 500pts WiiWare game with Pay&Play DLC.
Even better, get one of the many good games for 500 or 600pts. Makes more sense.

From the games listed above I can only recommend Ant Nation. Rated it 7/10.
It wasn't all that great though, and got repetitive but the idea was unique enough, with 100 levels and thousand of ants to level up individually and tons of achievements to have me spent 15 hours on it, and that was quite good value for the price (I'd buy a sequel that adds to the experience).
Chronos Twins DX is good if you're into difficult action platformers.
Pop was extremely repetitive and boring to me, but it's very polished for what it is (the soundtrack is pretty good).
Trenches Generals' controls felt broken and with only 15 campaign missions it's very short as well. It was interesting, but felt unfinished.
And The Mystery of Whiterock Castle has surprising flaws for a "spot the stuff" game. It could have been pretty good, but ultimately there are better, cheaper ones on WiiWare.
Haven't played the rest...

I think Carnival King is supposed to be half-decent, but it's short. You'd probably be better off with one of the 600-point Art Style games though.

Tell them that its stupid in the survey comments. Must be a European question. I don't remember being asked that in NA recently

I think it's the question they ask you in the eShop ratings: they always ask if the games are for everyone/gamers and whether the play is casual/intense, which almost always feels like they're asking the same question twice. I think I only gave opposite answers once, and it was for a game that was pretty much middle of the spectrum anyway.

@Xilef, I'd also recommend escape VeKtor, but you'd be better off just waiting for all 4 chapters to reach the eShop. If you download the original WiiWare version, you'll never be able to complete the entire series or unlock the additional content.

Here's a list of all my favorite WiiWare games I've downloaded. I left a few of the WiiWare games I've downloaded off the list, because I just don't feel comfortable recommending them to anyone.

In alphabetical order:
1) Art of Balance
2) And Yet It Moves
3) Aya - Cubes of Light
4) Blaster Master: Overdrive
5) Bobby Carrot Forever & DLC
6) FAST - Racing League
7) Fluidity
8) Max & The Magic Marker
9) Moto Heroz
10) Toki Tori
11) TV Show King 2
12) World of Goo
