Good that nintendo finally choose to go all the way with demos. It almost seems like there is something to hide when then are no demos. With demos people feel more confident about purchasing games.

The demo for thruspace confirmed that it wasn't my type of game. Seemed more like an extra game mode from tetris party than something that should be its own full game.

The Jett rocket demo confirmed that it was a good game I need to get. Nothing terribly original but didn't feel like a clone of mario galaxy either. Felt like a solid 3d platformer influenced but other good 3d platformers. Seemed easy but hopefully later levels are more challenging.

For me it seems like demos are great because you get a general "feel' of the actual gameplay that you can't get with videos. Usually it takes just a couple minutes to see if a game is something you'd want unless its something slower like an rpg.

After playing ThruSpace a few more times, I've decided against it because the controls just aren't intuitive enough. I kept moving the shape the wrong way. Also, it's a bad sign when you have to spend so much time learning the game through tutorials. I know some people like complex gameplay, but I am a child of the 80s arcades and don't remember having to be taught how to play my games back then--at least not in a way that wasn't naturally a part of the game. Besides, the complexity in this case is not the gameplay so much as the controls.

Bit.Trip FATE is growing on me. It wasn't what I expected the first time I played it, but after playing it again I am starting to like it a lot more.

Still loving Jett Rocket. Really need to get around to buying it, I'm just debating about putting anything new on the Wii until after holiday travel. Might be better to focus on handhelds right now.

Cave Story looks cool, but it seems more like a summer game. It looks too involved for the school year, when I'm always prepping lessons, grading papers, and doing whatever else the administrators come up with that has nothing to do with teaching.

I kinda disagree with you. Of course you need an open mind to go into a new game. But going into a game and expecting it to impress you is a very bad thing. It can only let you down. Bit. Trip Runner, And Yet It Moves and even Sonic 4 did that for me (just looking at WiiWare). The hype was enormous and I really looked forward to it. And after I got it, I just felt disappointed. Bit. Trip Fate did the same thing, but thankfully we got the demo that saved me money.

Well, I have to say that I really liked the demo. I liked it a lot. I liked it so much that I bought the Full Version.

I'm still not sure if I understand all the hype, and it being so populair just for being a game with a retro look, but I like the controls, the gameplay, the upgrade system and the story. So I hope the full version can make a believer out of me. But it's a lot better then And Yet It Moves, a game I really regret buying (all because of the positive hype and reviews). Cave Story actually wanted me to play more at the end of the demo.

So job well done, Nicalis. You got my money.

I certainly don't love it "just for being a game with a retro look," and I don't think it got "so populair" [sic] because of that. I can see why you might think that before playing through the entire thing, though. Regardless, I'm glad you're enjoying it and you bought it.

I'm not talking about Cave Story specific. But there seems to be a trend going that when a game have a retro look, it's populair and people hype it up way to much. Cave Story, Bit. Trip, Super Meat Boy, La Mulana, just to name a few. When the games are great, I'm the last one to complain and so far I love Cave Story. But I don't understand hyping it up just because of the retro look.

BTW, why does the main character in Cave Story wear yellow all of the sudden. In the screens he has a red hat.

Got two new demo's in Europe. Dive and Art of Balance. Too bad I have both of them. Would love to see a demo of an Art Style game.

I have both of them too. Personally I'd like to see demos of And Yet It Moves and Crystal Defenders R1/R2.

I didn't like AYITM, but sinces there is an American demo, I expect to see that one hitting Europe soon too. I would love a Crystal Defenders R1/R2 demo too.

Bader's Demo update - Max and the Magic Marker - hugely charming, but maybe a touch easy. Would have been ideal for Badger Jr about 3 years ago.
Dive - Very relaxing and pleasant, beautifully presented, lovely sound, but maybe just a touch TOO slow. A 'maybe'.
Cave Story - Excellent, reminiscent of C64 platformer/exploration games(Underwurld in particular comes to mind), will be getting this come payday.
Art of Balance - Utterly compulsive - was disappointed when this came to a close - will probably be getting this come payday too.

Now that there's a demo out for DIVE: THE MEDES ISLANDS SECRET, has the game received an update now?
I like it, I like how you unlock more and more parts of each map and try to find all treasures. I would download it, if it is fixed.

My demo reviews: I already have MAX & THE MAGIC MARKER and ART OF BALANCE. Two very good games.

CAVE STORY
Definately want it now. I've beaten the demo two times. On EASY with new graphics and new sounds, and on HARD with retro graphics and retro sounds. I could play this on and on, but I know hours of level grind are a waste of time since the demo can't save.

DIVE: THE MEDES ISLANDS SECRET
Endless Ocean 2 is priority, but after that I'd like to dive into Dive too. It's good. I've also beaten the demo twice. I tried to perfect the first stage, but I don't think it's possible. You need to have enough money for the last diving suit to find all treasures. I don't think it's possible to earn so much money in just the first stage.

We got a Hydroventure demo. But I didn't like it. So it saved me money again. The demo of Bit Trip Fate also returned.

Well, then Don't go in expecting anything. Just try to enjoy it anyway you can. A lofty task I know, and It doesn't work all the time, but it does keep the experience from being all that displeasurable. It didn't keep me from hating And Yet it Moves, though, but oh well. Like Max And The Magic Maker, it just wasn't my kind of game.
