That was hilarious. It reminds me a bit of Robotron for some reason, which is of course a good thing. I really dislike teasers that show no game play at all, but I guess this will be one to look out for.

Hmmm... I don't know... I mean, I don't like Robotron to begin with and besides, after playing Niki I don't trust Bplus anymore... The trust is gone...

Looks...interesting.

Well, it may just be a superficial resemblance (and the resemblance is slight, I think, anyway) since we don't know anything about how the game plays. The way there is this flat open grid with a little person minding his own business while a giant robot approaches behind made me think of how silly Robotron's concept was, having a little family wander around an empty screen, oblivious to evil robots around them.
I didn't like Niki at all either, but I'll give anything a chance if it looks promising, whether it ends up being Robotron-esque (please please please! ) or not.

Certainly has much more potential than Niki. Can't wait.

One point - I thought this was going to be a retail title - shouldn't this thread be moved to the "Wii" section, rather than WiiWare?

Oh and yes - the game does look funky and I also can't wait for more details.

Retail? Booooo. I like my cheap downloadable games.

From the Bplus Forums:

Vektor Tank is not in development for a specific platform. We are currently looking for a publisher to release the game on disc in stores. Maybe it will also see a release on WiiWare - this is not determinable right now.

I also hate Robotron. Looks like we're going to have to pick sides on this one.

First you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women.

Adam

Oh that's fine, judging by your avatar you're a robot, and if there's one thing Robotron fans know how to do, it's zapping robots.

Good god. Robotron is one of Eugene Jarvis's legendary works (the other being the sublime Defender). What makes both of these games stand out from the crowd is the unprecedented level of control over the environment put into the player's hands in each of them.

Brilliant game design with lovely raster visuals. I'd put them up there with the greatest works of art.

You guys thought it looked like Robotron, and sure enough, Bplus say that it was one of the games influences, along with Super Tank on the SNES. More first details here.

Hmmmm, Wiiloveit is a website and a poster at Nintendo Life forums?

Well, the extra screens are interesting; it's got a retro 3D feel like I, Robot I could get behind if the game is slick and interesting enough. I'm a bit sceptical about a retail release for this, though. A publisher is really going to have to be bowled over in this economy to think a retro 3D title will sell.

Much sour grapes over their WiiWare reception as well; move on guys and keep trying, don't complain about past failure (1500 points for a puzzle game? Deary me).

@Sean Aaron: to be fair, Plattchen did have a lot of replayability and was longer than most other WiiWare games, so 1500 points doesn't really seem too much to me - people paid 1500 for World of Goo, and that was a puzzle game.
Also: yeah, I have my own webbysite Granted, it's not as big as Nintendo Life ever will be, but I'm quite happy with it.

I have yet to find a game I'd be willing to spend 1500 points on in one go (well, Space Invaders Get Even if it had all the packs).

Do you really think Plattchen got unfairly treated? I'm expecting 6000 points thanks to the amazon pricing f-up a couple of weeks ago, so I'm wondering if that game deserves a chance...

@Sean Aaron: I do think it was unfairly treated (review), and reviewers clearly didn't give it a fair chance. It does all take a while to get used to, and the game can seem pretty damn hard at times, but the puzzling is great, and if you stick at it, you'll get a good bit of enjoyment out of it.

What I see in that B+ interview is that they're trying to guilt-trip people into buying their games. "We don't take the beaten path and you don't buy our games because of that! You kill innovation!" Sometimes the path is beaten because it avoids the crocodiles! When you throw an established game mechanic out the window you should first make sure you understand why it got introduced in the first place. E.g. air controls in jump&runs were added because controlling long jumps like you see in those games is a total piece of ass if you can't affect your trajectory enough after you hit the jump button, it's not just there because Shigeru Miyamoto has an irrational fear of realistic physics.

They also forget the difference between nominal content and effective content. Just because you can shove enough stuff into a game that it takes 100 hours to finish doesn't mean the player will perceive that as 100 hours of content, it can very well be 10 hours of content and 90 hours of padding to him. Only parts that do something interesting (usually new ideas) matter, the rest is just filler.

Raincoat whore!
