Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that the Wii's first music creation tool will be releasing this Monday!
Think you can be the next big music star? Well now you've got all the tools right at your fingertips with Mix Superstar. Create, mix and record your own royalty-free musical masterpieces right on your Wii™ system. There are over 1,000 Dance, Hip Hop and Techno loops included across multiple instruments like Drum, Bass, Synth, Guitar and even voice tracks.

Mix Superstar is launching exclusively on WiiWare for only 500 Wii Points!

A lot of people have been emailing us with all sort of questions about how the music actually gets from a Wii to a computer. Well, it's really simple! All you do is create your music mix, export it and then you'll get an email and a unique code which you'll then enter at www.mixsuperstar.com. As soon as you submit it, you'll start downloading your latest hit! All music created is royalty free, so you can do anything you want with the track - even sell it!

If there are any other questions about the title, just post them here!

@SKTTR - We're hoping to have it launch in Europe before Xmas, but it may end up being in Jan. We'll definitely keep you posted when the NOE launch is official.

I'm really interested in this one. I love the fact that it can be send to a PC and then to your own mp3 player. What have me worried though, is what's already available for the 500 Points. You can buy additional loops according to the trailer. But how much of that is available for the 500 Points? And is it enough to make some nice music?

@Sneaker13 - There are over 1000 loops included on the initial download from genres like Hip Hop, Dance, Techno...etc. None of the additional loop packs available for download include any included samples, so you will not have duplicate loops. You'll have plenty of loops to make some excellent tracks. However, if you want to give your mix a certain flare additional loops will be available from the Loop Shop. Here are some of the tracks created from packs which will be available on Monday: http://mixsuperstar.com/loopshop.php

Very nice, some awesome tracks on it, and for only 500 Points. Any idea when it will hit Europe?

Yeah, those tracks were created by a couple guys here. They've had a really fun time creating all of the sample tracks for the loop packs. Also, the title comes with a few sample track pre-loaded so you can at least have a listen to what can be created. There is also a tutorial that we certainly recommend you watch to get the full use of the software, but really anyone can simply start dragging and dropping samples to start making some fun tracks. We are hoping for a release in Europe before Xmas, but it might end up sliding in after the new year. We'll keep NintendoLife posted when we get official word from NOE. Also, I should mention that it will release at the same time in Australia and New Zealand -- a few of our friends down under were asking earlier.

Yes, you'll be able to mix from over 1000 loops included with the software.
You can save your mix at any time to the system and return later to finish to add to it.
Your final mix can be downloaded from www.mixsuperstar.com in WAV format. It can then be encoded to the compressed format of your choice.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts on Monday!

Will this be coming to the EU?

Badger Jr would like some kind of simple music program to get into as he's not quite big enough to use GarageBand and this looks ideal(and affordable).

@DigitalLeisure: I'll be honest, I haven't exactly been a fan of any games you have put out in the past. I find they lack a certain polish and care and ultimately come across a little uninspired. That said, this title has definitely captured my interest. It seems as though this one was handled carefully with alot of attention to detail. This is especially apparent in the online features. My question to you is, compared to your other products on WiiWare, how do you think this compares as far as polish and production value goes. This is a big point for me since a game's level of polish ranks very highly for me.

@bboy2970 - First off, I appreciate the candidness of your comments. People are allowed their opinions on software and products in general. We produce and publish games for WiiWare that we believe will satisfy a wide audience of casual gamers. They are priced for that audience, designed for that audience and at the end of the day though we love making games it's a business and as I'm sure you know, there are a bunch of factors when creating a $5.00 product versus a $60.00 one.

That being said, when we set out to create Mix Superstar - a project that actually began in its infancy when WiiWare was launched - we set out on the notion that this would be a $15.00 product given what users would be able to get out of it. This project was developed on an enormous scale compared to that of any other WiiWare game we had created. In a simple Monday morning production meeting in late 2008 someone said "What if we could be make a music creation program for WiiWare?". It was generally thought to be way too ambitious given the well known limitations of the WiiWare 'bite-sized' game, but we began to make a go of it while working on other projects. Now fast forward to the launch yesterday, I think this product is certainly one of the most unique offerings WiiWare has to offer. Some may disagree, or say "this isn't a game" but when we presented the title for people to sit down and play, they were all having fun and smiling - and at the end of the day it's entertainment.

So, returning to your question - "How do you think this compares as far as polish and production value goes?" - I think this product hits it out of the park on what people might expect from a WiiWare title. Now, people will say I'm biased because I worked on it, but a very small development team created a full music creation title and are making it available for 5 bucks.

That five bucks gives you access to the following:

  • 1000+ loops from a variety of music genres including - Dance, Hip Hop and Techno
  • Microphone Recording from either your Logitech USB Mic (which comes with Rockband) or Wii Speak
  • Music collaboration - You and a friend can work on a mix together and even send samples over WiiConnect24.
  • Exporting a finished mix - Now this is the ultimate feature - Create a mix, then Export it to our Mix Superstar servers and actually download your creation! No additional charge!
  • Additional loops - We would have loved to include every loop created, but we are limited. So there are a whole slew of additional genres available for download -- plus we are adding more music as often as we can!
  • Royalty Free - Anything you create is yours. Burn it, sell it, distribute it -- What ever you want!

I would certainly give this product a try if you like making music, recording your voice, messing around with balance, levels...etc. You will not be disappointed.

If you have any other specific questions, I'd be happy to answer.

Best,

  • Paul
