La-Mulana was created by Nigoro.

Both have stylish retro 2D graphics, both are platformers in a huge open world with lots of action-adventure elements, and both are published by Nicalis. That's the only things they have in common.

But Nicalis is publishing it, so I assumed it must be a Cave Story remake.

Yea, I know what it is. Just reacting to the latest Nicalis-related news post on the main site. Glad to see Nigoro still hasn't given up on this.

Nicalis are a bunch of idiots so I automatically assume it is their fault. Because it probably is. Because they suck.

Only reason I'm interested in this game is that they just publishing it so they don't have a chance to mess up basic things like how to correctly use midi music in a video game in the year 2010. It's made by actual developers who make video games that are good, instead of having extreme difficulty porting an indy game made by one person.

According to what Nigoro said themselves (someone copied it on the previous page of this thread), it has nothing to do with Nicalis at all, actually.

Has everyone forgotten Within a Deep Forest. Nifflas (Nicalis) canned the sequel, but there's a beta online. The concepts seem really cool.

Within a Deep Forest is a free game that Nifflas completed years ago for PC download, before his association with Nicalis. That's not a beta. I wasn't aware they were planning to rerelease or update the game. I found the physics to be awful and didn't find anything to enjoy. His game Knytt is pretty great though.

NightSky is great, and makes me think Nifflas is a pretty awesome developer.
