Topic: i took a risk and download ben 10

i am surprised its a fun 2d game, the 3d character spirits on the 2d background looks odd at times
the game starts with bens alien power is getting problems so he can only change into 2 guys at the start every time you beat a level a guy alien is unlocked , a plant guy and a brain guy, each one has own moves, plant guy can make plant pillars and the brain guy fire electricity bolts to turn on power, and there's sub powers by shaking the wii mote, the plant guy can heal, the brain guy doesn't have a sub power, the game has slight puzzles turning on computers to raise and lower platforms and finding keycards to open doors the combat is simple there's a melee attack and a range attack, the range attack drains the special bar meter
i feel that the game should be a 8$ game but so far i am only on level 1-2

Hmm, good to hear it's good. My friend likes Ben 10, and I'm also a fan. Does it have co-op?

@Xkhaoz no its a solo game with the story of bens friends go missing so he rushes out to find them
but it does have a nice amount of voice overs from aliens and ben in combat, every alien says his name and a witty comment after killing a enemy i don't watch the show so i wouldn't know if its the same voices as the show.

i unlocked a giant dinoman that left big boxes and makes short work of enemies with his power
some hovering cold guy that can freeze enemies and lightly hover in the air also he double jumps, so far no boss fights so i am not sure if there is any bosses in the game

What gameplay modes are there? Also does the game have cutscenes or hust static pictures with talking.

From what i've read, the game is sparse when it comes to story and doesn't cater well to newcomers. It also features time attack and survival modes. The difficulty ranges from ridiculously easy to insanely difficult.

the story is very light theres text clips before and end of levels but i guess it only work well with fans of the show, i barely know any of the characters and names they give
there is 3 modes story, time, survival modes along with 3 unlockable difficulties, along with the 3 starter difficulty picks, normal isan't that easy or that hard i died a few times from traps and once at the first boss
i am pleased with the game its much better then i expected

can you cotrol who you turn into at will.

Just saw the game on XBLA i guess i'll demo and post my impression. (don't think it matter's what version as the method of control is the only thing different.

yes you can control who you change into and most levels and bosses can only be beaten by changing into more then one alien

This is good to hear after I read how IGN slammed the X360 version. I like the show, so the "confusing story to those who don't watch the show" arguement doesn't apply, and most of IGN's other complaints don't seem like big problems to me.

However, I was worried over what they said about the gameplay. They said, "Ben is awkward to control, regardless of which form he takes. The physics lack a sensation of weight and the character's feeling of momentum is off. When you factor in the less-than-perfect jumping mechanics, you'll begin to see why Rise of Hex isn't enjoyable to play. It's not technically broken, but I certainly wasn't having a ball beating levels."

Egg miester and shinji_70, do you see any truth in these gameplay complaints?

Yeah the gameplay is pretty slow. I don't like the ladders where you can't climb the latter all the way. you climb to a certian point then jump. the menus and cutscene's leave alot to be desired.

Good to hear about Time Attack. I thought it would be just a simple story, beat the game, that's it.

I thought this would be terrible since its based on some kids show I've never seen but doesn't look too bad. Its from konami too.

Isn't this game also released as a Wii and PS2 retail game? It's called Ben 10: Alien Force, right?

@Bulbasaurus Rex truthfully said ben isn't that hard to control every alien is different with its attacks and specials, i am enjoying the game for the most part, maybe the xbox version isn't as good as the wii, but depending who on ign reviewed it they maybe insanely bad gamers or something i don't trust ign anymore for reviews

I downloaded it yesterday and I'm having a blast!

I've played the first two levels (just unlocked Humungasaur), and it's pretty good, but I do have some minor complaints. First, IGN is correct that the platforming isn't as good as it could be. Second, the melee attack is weirdly mapped to the C button and can't be changed. Something that important for combat needs to be mapped to either Z or B with the alien non-combat primary special abilty mapped to C. Third, the constant Omnitrix energy regeneration mixed with Swampfire's Regenerate ability, which is available from the beginning, makes the game too easy. You almost never have to worry about the robots killing you (only instant deaths), and the refill pickups are almost meaningless.

By the way, I wish there was a way to play as Gwen. It would be so awesome to play with her powers (plus she's hot)! There is some sort of unlockable bonus mode involving Grandpa Max, so maybe we can eventually play as him at least.

I'm stuck on the 4th level. I've got a couple of blocks that I can move with Humungasaur to hopefully give Big Chill enough height to get over to the ledge with the green keycard, but it won't let me double-stack the boxes, and one box isn't enough to get to the ledge even with Big Chill's double jump ability. How do I get up there?
