Hi Kid_A, I undertand and sorry if you don´t enjoy Soccer Up. For enjoy with Soccer Up is very important to play with a friend. About the Change your player, is not correct your oppinion, the user decide that player to controller, you have that to move the player that you want to control to the ball. For the Sprint, with a ball in your possesion, you can to push the buttons 1 and 2 together for the autopass. Please, try again and you see that is different gameplay but is very fun.

The CPU don´t uses the Aftertouch, Only the human player in Proffessional Mode, is very recommended to use the proffesional mode, is more complexed but is the better and more funny.
2) is it true that pressing A near the ball controlled by opponent is useful to steal it?ù
I don´t think.
3)some advice to score easier?
Dribble the goalkeeper, also is very recommended to used the more power in the shots with the botton 1 or B(Nunchuk) the goalkeeper can´t catch the ball in short distances.

@Kid_A I can see manually changing your player helping on defense, but you shouldn't need it on offense. I much prefer control automatically switching to the player with the ball in my sports games and was mad when that option wasn't included in the new NBA Jam. Just trust your teammate AI to be competant enough to get some players open for passes when you need them to be. You shouldn't need to set up chess-like strategies and formations in sports games like a real professional coach. Just try to avoid the opposing players while dribbling down the field, and look for open teammates with better field position. Combined with the sprint and auto-pass abilities revealed by Mr. Moruno (although you really shouldn't need to spint much, anyway), you'll probably do better.

By the way, Mr. Moruno, are there any plans to release a demo of this game?

Am I the only one who is having trouble scoring in this game? Five games now and I have yet to score! Every time that I get the ball, I can't get very far before a defender swoops in and takes it away, and if I pass, it is always picked off. Also, how do you avoid fouls. Every time I tackle it's a foul.

Oh, and I actually play decent defense, as I can hold them to 1-2 goals a game.

My recommendation is to use the Training at the beginning, also to play with a family and friend. ABout the demo, in this momment aren´t plans for release a demo, but more later is a possible option.

Thanks for the advice, Julio. What I meant by not being able to "manually switch players" was that on defense, the game automatically switches me to whatever player it thinks is closest to the ball. This makes it really tough to form a defensive strategy, because many times just when I'm about to steal the ball from an attacker, the game automatically switches me to another player 20 feet away and my play is ruined. Any defensive strategies for me?

If you've ever played anyone who really knows how to play, say, Fifa, the truth is that often you do need some chess-like strategies and formations to win the game. I'm not one of those guys whose that good, but I have played people like that. And the AI, as some have mentioned, is ridiculously difficult in this game. I wish it were as simple as "just [trying] to avoid the opposing players while dribbling down the field, and [looking] for open teammates with better field position," but the opposing players are inexplicably always a little faster, and have the unfair advantage of knowing all the little quirks to play this particular soccer game. This is my strategy, but running into the ball to steal it or slide-tackling practically never work. Often my player just passes right through the ball. There are also glitches in the game. Once the opponent kicked the ball at the keeper, my keeper caught it, and then glitched out and threw the ball in the net! Madness.

1)A good defensive tactic is to interrupt passages between adversaries, try to place yourself between them and simply steal the ball. Another good strategy is not chase an opponent out of your position, if your player is too far from his role stop him and the game will "activate" another player in a better position
2)When you release the button, you can give the ball a spin.If you press in the opposite direction of the shot the ball goes up, if you press on left or right of the direction of the shot you can do curve balls (banana shots XD). Combination of both the movements are possibile. Take note that you can decide the strenght of the pass or shot with the time you keep pressed the button. You need practice to be very sensible and precise.
3) The player with the ball is slower than the opponent (it's a classic design choice and prevents "superman" tactics), but you have three options available: press A+B to make a sprint (you can do this repeatedly), try to dribble or simply pass (need practice). The best strategy is to keep passing the ball and to take advantage of the sides of the field, use aftertouch for deep passing and cross in the box. Another strategy is quick counter attacks, shooting the ball deep from the defence.

p.s. sorry for my bad English, I hope my words are understandable.

UPDATE:I won my first world cup,fantastic! And I discovered an important thing about aftertouch: to shoot more powerful shots you have to charge B and then release B and the analog controller. In this way it's easier to score. Practice is very important, now I can do effective tactics and I assure you it's very satisfactory!

Sounds like I need to change up my tactics... a lot. I was getting so frustrated I started employing a "dump and chase" strategy where I dump the ball into the other end with a hard shot and hope my forwards can reach it before the defenders do.

I have yet to win a single match against cpu, but i unlocked the professional mode and mii team editor.
The difficulty is great, as is the learning curve and. Normally I hate football games, but this one's a pretty good 90ies classic styler.

Quick updated tips.
BASICS:
1) Learn how to use aftertouch.
Right after you shoot or pass, you can change the direction of the ball with the stick (Es. facing up, down for "lob", right or left for "banana shoot"), combination are possible.
2) Learn to dose the strenght of shoot or pass.
You can decide the strenght of shoot or pass,pressing the button longer. You can do aftertouch anyway.
3) Use tip 1 and 2 to pass effectively.
You can use aftertouch also for passing, so you can do "impossible" tricks to reach your players. It's important to dose the strenght of the pass because a strong passage is more difficult to control for a near player.
4) Use the sprint (A+B or 1+2).
With sprint you can avoid the slowdown of your player when control the ball. Don't rely always on this, it's useful to gain an advantage to shoot or pass not to do cavalcades.

DEFENCE:
1)Use sliding wisely.
You can't slide-spam in this game, use sliding for emergencies or when you are sure to hit only the ball. If you hit the ball and not the opponent it's not foul
2) Look at the ball.
To steal the ball to the opponent it's important to look at the ball. It's the only rule. Take advantage of bad controls by the opponent and steal it.
3) Obstruction is king
You can steal the ball also using wisely obstruction. Look at opponent and try to anticipate its passing shots or stand before him for rebounds.

OFFENCE:
1) Pass effectively and use choral game
Don't try to long pass from the defenders every time, use short and precise passages to reach the opponent penalty box. Use often the sides of the field.
2) Use aftershot shots to confuse the opponent.
If you use curve balls,the goalkeeper rejection will be curve balls. You can tap in these rejections.
3) Dribble the goalkeeper.
Be smart and use the movements of the goalkeeper to your advantage, dribble or pass to a free player
4) Learn how to shoot under the crossbar.
This is the best way of scoring effectively in this game.Charge shot and release both button and stick, you'll obtain a powerful shot under the crossbar.

These are the tips, remember that practice make perfect.

p.s. if you played old soccer games these tips are almost useless XD
