Were you thinking of getting this game, but it fell out of your dominant mind, being so shrouded in the abundance of dope games available to you?
This is where I come in, with a Recommendation:
Buy this game!
I just bought this today; I am hooked. The presentation is beautiful. The visuals are really smooth and colorful, the gameplay is topnotch. It feels very well put-together. I haven't played the original Game Boy game that this game is based off of, but I can surmise that this game does it justice. This is one of those "This is WiiWare done right" moments. Thank you Konami for a beautiful game. I feel blessed to have this downloaded to my Wii Console for eternity.
It is an absolutely divine game--one of the best of the old-style CVs imo (CV3, then this, then Drac X) and probably the (legitimately) hardest in the series.
If you want it to control like old-school CV, change control to "Classic". If you want old-school continue-based challenge, set the lives to 3 instead of 9. If you want old school brutal challenge/quarter-health damage on later levels, set it to Hard Mode.
Personally, I only played it on Hard Mode, Classic Control....took FOREVER to beat (I wanna say 4 straight hours of play--most of it continuing repeatedly on levels 3 and 5) but was very worth it. I can do it on 3 lives now--with hard level paths (yes--I'm tooting my own horn a bit ) Add to that the FM-synth soundtrack (glorious) and you have easily the best game on the Wiiware service.

Agreed with everything you (and Swerd) said. This is of the few gems on Wiiware. I especially love that they used music tracks that didn't already have a billion and one remixes (other than Vampire Killer).
I loved this game (and the other Rebirth titles) from start to finish. I love the music as well. I listen to it on You Tube all of the time. Probably in my top 3 of favorite Wii Ware games. My only complaint is they left out the 1st level music Battle of the Holy from the Gameboy game. Konami created the track for the game but it did not make the cut. You can find it on the internet and it sounds great.
@the shpy - Hard Mode, Classic Control. The way it was meant to be played---arguably harder than CV3 (not counting the 'Aquarius' level on the second playthrough....bats at the end make it almost impossible). Enjoy levels 3 and 5 They don't even resemble themselves on normal (Blood Skeletons are way faster and respawn in half the time) as all the level layouts, damage values, and monster AI is changed.
@Tony - I must agree....Battle of the Holy is a great track, the remix is great, and it's from the original game for crying out loud! Still--I'd say, for that to be my biggest criticism, that it's a great game

@Swerd I did play through on Hard, and only used the classic control, as i'm old school. I wouldn't say it's the easiest CV at all, but not near as bad as some of the rougher parts of CV3 (and yeah, the blood skeletons are annoyingly fast).
Great game and I love that the difficulty is very scalable. I've seen some people complain about the rebirth titles being short and easier than the original games but you can easily change the settings to make it much harder and something you'd have to play for many hours to beat.
Yeah, this game is really good. Also, you guys know that you can save/load, right? I think you hold right on the main menu screen until a level select pops up. :3
