The Wii just froze completely while playing Core. I was on level one and in Nether during a transition. The game froze and the remote would not respond. Since it was in Nether there was of course no sound. No idea if it's a bug in the game or the Wii, but my Wii has frozen a handful of times before, so no telling.
Aboot how many tries did it take you to beat level one? This is getting ridiculous. I must be on my tenth try by now and still have hardly gotten halfway through maybe three times. Really losing patience for it. The more I play the more I think I will only ever see level two by using two-player mode.

Hang in there! With practice, great things will happen Try to stare directly at the plus in the center of the screen, and "zone out". Your peripheral vision will help you!
It took me...maybe 6 tries? 5? Somewhere in there. You'll get it. The boss kicked my bananas the first time, but since then he's been a piece of cake. (I still love the concept for that boss. I can't say that enough.)
Just got to the boss. Lost on the second wave. It was neat I guess.
The level isn't so bad except for the parts where there are pairs of pink pixels that flood the screen. It seems impossible; I can't figure out how to clear those parts. I luckily got to the first such section in Mega and just barely survived it still, and the second time I bombed it while in Nether.
I'm going to give it a rest for the day at least, maybe just reserve the game for two-player mode. I've played off and on for most of the day, and I'm just not feeling it. Maybe tomorrow when my eyes are rested.
I love Core thus far and if I had to pick either Beat or Core for being the more enjoyable experience, I've gotta' go with Core at the moment. Nothing against Beat (which is still the same awesome, pong-style rhythm game it's always been) but the absolutely head-exploding complexity of Core's toughest moments really raise the bar on this game to a level above even the original game for me. It's tough, rewarding, enthralling, and all-together terrific.
Just finished the first level...awesome boss! I look forward to figuring out all the patterns as I did with BEAT. The "SUPER" mode is visually stunning and a great addition - hopefully I can soon start spending a little more time in that mode
Focusing on the cross while letting your peripheral vision pick up the patterns is a great tip and really immerses you into the game (much like BEAT did).
Has anyone tried the two player mode yet? How does it work? I assume you both can just shoot beams out of the same core in whatever direction you like. I also assume that must make the game MUCH easier...at the obvious expense of your multiplier.
I haven't tried it yet, but that is indeed how it works. It was shown in a Nintendo Channel video. Planning to try it this week. Everyone I've shown Beat to has loved it, so it shouldn't be hard finding someone to play Core with.
Finally got to play it after a long day, today. Great stuff, guys! I have little nitpicks that can probably be answered, but otherwise it is a good experience as the first.
I noticed that the background in the title screen doesn't seem to change like the first game (though I only beat level 1 thus far, so maybe that'll change?). I'd suggest Trash80 to be an artist for one game, but that artist's music might be a little too dancey for Bit.Trip. I found that the difficulty in level one is a little harder (enough to make me lose once) than in Beat, but I find that the pattern of the game is easier to recognize than in Beat. That actually makes it easier, in the long run, and therefore more accessible. Also, the Two-Player mode will certainly help in case it gets TOO crazy. The bomb is a great addition to the game, too (perhaps it can recharge if you are in Super Mode long enough or something, in future games?).
UNFORTUNATELY, the game crashed on me in Level 2 during a transition. From another person in the thread's mention, I fear the game might be a little crash-buggy at the moment.
So far, love it as always. It's so interesting to see that Gaijin Games has come into creation and released such good games in a short period of time (though they are short games, too ). At this rate, Bit.Trip will be done by the end of 2010, and they'll have SIX games on their belt. Talk about a great resume builder. I can only imagine what you guys at GG could do with more time and budget. I won't say platformer or Rez clone, but.... Mmmmm ^^;
I thought I'd read that Core was supposed to be easier, but I think the consensus so far in this thread that it's harder. I could be mistaken. But I for one definitely find it harder.
Awesome, level 2! I think my eyes were just hurting yesterday. There are still two or three parts of level 1 that I don't understand at all, but I just kept pressing 2 and random directions and somehow survived. Word.
...so I ended up losing some sleep last night because every time I closed my eyes I saw blocky pixels sweeping through the darkness, which is also what happened when I first started playing Beat.
Based on that, I can say that Core is growing on me much more than I would have thought. My issues listed in my first post still remain (barring the "MISS!" one which was thankfully cleared up), but I'm having a very easy time overlooking them now.
Will it also only be 500 points and have zero localisation like BEAT was on the Japanese WiiWare service?
Unfortunately, I don't know the specifics of pricing. As far as localization, it's pretty much handled just like BEAT, with one cool little exception, which I'll leave as a surprise.
