I was just about to post a thread on this. I really like Core, and I find it significantly easier than Beat, to such an extent that I've got Discovery near-perfect, Exploration I could do with some effort, and Control I'm rarely below Mega, and spend a lot of time in Super. Growth from Beat, on the other hand, is nails! D:

so i just uploaded it for Oddy, and i'm pretty sure no one else cares, but in case anyone else is having problems beating Exploration and just wants to skip to playing Control, i've uploaded my current savefile here. enjoy (or not, haha). :3

@SoulSilver IV: actually, quite a while ago Adam and I were both playing for days trying to get past Exploration together, and it was such a hurdle that we made an agreement that whichever of us was to get past it first would upload their savefile to the internet so that the other could download it and play Control too. He was the first of us to get past it, and after having beaten Control for the first time, I went back to Exploration and nailed it on the first shot. It's not that anyone downloading the savefile won't beat Exploration eventually, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to move on for a while if you get too frustrated... better that than giving up on the game entirely and never getting to Control, which is IMO one of the best song/level combos in the series.

Don't worry bro, I'm only messing with you. I feel that EXPLORATION is the hardest level to complete in CORE, espcially where the boss can take you from SUPER into NETHER with just a single miss, not to mention the fact that it's probably got the most novel set of beat patterns in the game. CONTROL on the other hand is, as you mentioned, an absolute joy to play thanks to the beat patterns and amazing music. I don't know, I guess I just wanted to tease the fact that some people needed to find ways around EXPLORATION, which was a little mean, but oh well.

Last night I got two almost instant game-overs in Control. I am so awesome.

You're probably better than BEAT than I am. That must be some consolation.

I didn't really like Core. I think it's the worst game in the whole series. Not saying it's bad, but it's just not my cup of tea. I couldn't beat the first level, so maybe that's one of the reasons I don't like that game very much. On Beat and Void I was able to reach the third level - but not beat it - and Runner was the only game in the series I managed to win (not with all the gold pickups, though). I didn't give Fate much attention, I should be playing it more often...

I loved CORE. I felt it was much more tactile than BEAT or VOID were. Yeah, BEAT is fun and so is VOID, but CORE was much more digital in input, so I felt that mistakes were more mine than anyone else's.

What specifically made me feel that CORE > BEAT to me was CORE Level 3's music and BEAT's Level 2 "bump."

Of course, we're talking about darn good games all around. So far, the series is RUNNER > CORE > BEAT > VOID = FATE for me.

SoulSilverIV

Ah, CORE has to be my favourite entry in the series by far. Ironically, it was the one I avoided for longest because I thought it was the worst (before buying) and the hardest, whereas the complete opposites are now true.

RUNNER is probably the best game in the series in terms of overall design, and is my second favourite behind CORE. So...

CORE > RUNNER > VOID = BEAT = FATE

I personally think CORE is second-worst after VOID.

Woh woh woh. You make it sound like they're bad. All the Bit. Trip games are awesome. Certain people just enjoy more that others.

Check out my classy comics.

@Starcross64: so we can't use negative terminology to describe our least-favorite Bit.Trip titles, not even when describing them in ranked order? geez, i'd better go back then and edit out all the times i've called Void a huge disappointment and/or the worst in the series IMO. guess i can't say didn't like it, either, god forbid someone actually pays attention to what games I do and don't like and only buys the ones i've personally enjoyed. D:

be sure to get back to me when you've got a completely inoffensive way for me to describe Void as the worst in the series, plz :3
No, i'm not a fan of Void. Yes, I am completely unrepentant. :3

What are you talking about?

Also, like TBD points out, it is in fact possible to dislike a BIT.TRIP game, as foreign as that may sound to some of us fans. No series, not even this one, is completely immortal.

@Oddy: in fact, that's the best part about the series -- everyone's got games they love and games they loathe out of it. there's something for everyone. :3
also... honestly, i agree that it wasn't that great -- it's no SMW or SMB3, that's for damn sure

I once "killed" all bits in the second level of Core, but I used the bomb and therefore there´s no "perfect" next to my score! Ahhrgh. Have tried multiple times but always slip up at some "never before missed bit". As I´m thinking about it... I will have another go now.

Is it only I who see the similarity between Core and Guitar Hero? The only difference is that the tones/bits doesn´t come at you in a straight line.
