I can't blame them. I'm sure it will sell more on XBL than it will on WiiWare and as we have been saying seemingly all this weekend, WiiWare just really isn't a good platform for small developers that have lots of time and money tied up in their product. Until Nintendo does something, be it revise their payment structure, begin pushing their download service more, add demos, etc. don't be surprised if more of this type of things occur.
I am the one you despise. I am he who says what you really deep down know but are affraid to admit. I am the Anti-Fanboy, the crusader of truth in a world built on your lies.
"Bringing the game to XBLA will allow Team Meat to do more with Super Meat Boy than it can on WiiWare. The game is currently about half finished and is already around 35MB in size. Nintendo limits the size of WiiWare games to 42MB, so Team Meat will have much more breathing room on Microsoft's service. Among the new features planned for the XBLA version is online play. The developer would like each version of the game to have some exclusive content, such as exclusive characters."
This made me angry... BUT THE XBOXER DON'T GET THE BIT.TRIP-CHARACTER!! MUAHAHAHA
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."
Nintendo have F****d it up again, clearly the big N's arbitrary 42MB size restriction has caused team meat to pursue other platforms like XBLA where they can have free rein to do what they wish. I've been waiting for this since it was announced and now WiiWare will not only get their version later but with less features, man that bites.
Significant chance they've lost my sale. (Luckily, the thousands upon thousands of XBLA sales will more than make up for that.)
Seriously though, does anyone else find this sort of classless? I totally respect that it's a good business decision to go multiplatform... but as a Wii-only gamer who has been excited and patiently waiting for the game, who has been told repeatedly that it'll be exclusive and one of the best WiiWare titles around, I'm a little bit steamed now to hear we are getting an inferior version that will be released later. (At least give us our inferior version first, dammit!) To have the news break through third-party sources instead of directly from the dev team only rubs salt in the bloody wound.
Oh well. On a happier note, here's hoping it arrives on PSN before too long also. If this game really is as good as the hype, then the more people who can enjoy it the better.
I fully blame Nintendo. 42MB limit for a console game, even if DLC is just flat out stupid and outdated, not to mention their pathetic online system.
It should be AT LEAST 100MB, especially with the SD option now in place....42...No one you see WiiWare devs looking elsewhere...That and the lack of help from Nintendo on making the service itself known to Wii owners.
I'm anxious to see the different content in each version, if they do indeed put some exclusive stuff into each version. Since they're coming out in the same month, that's not enough of a wait to bother me, really.
who has been told repeatedly that it'll be exclusive
Actually, it was planned to be released on the PC as well since the beginning. Didn't Nintendo request them to release it on WiiWare, anyway?
Two comments on this:
First, when I said exclusive I was talking about consoles. Of course you are right about a PC version planned from the beginning.
Second, although I did see articles about SMB being exclusive to WiiWare on several site, I can't ever recall the dev team clear stating that. (On the other hand, they never corrected those articles either.) Maybe I'm overreacting... although it's still disappointing to be first in line and then receive scraps.
there is very little incentive for developers to develop for WiiWare and not other platforms, the size limit is very small, the user base is small and judging from the levels of support in terms of dev support and marketing Nintendo isn't really committed to the service. when you take all that into account you're gong to develop for XBLA and PSN and then perhaps port something over if possible. Its a shame because there are some gems on the service, I wonder could there be more if things Nintendo did things little differently.
(In response to topic title) Not really, I'll probably pass on it, actually. I don't like the looks of the gameplay, and it stole Super Mario Bros.' acronym which fuels my anger!
