Topic: Adventure Island: The Beginning or New Adventure Island?

I simply can't decide if I should try AI:TB. I've been debating for such a long time now as there's been such a big mix of some positive comments and some comments telling me to stay clear. Now I notice NAI, something that I hadn't noticed up until now. I'm wondering which one I should go for, or even if I should go for both if they're both very different. I just don't know what to do. Thoughts from anyone who's played both would be appreciated. I'm looking more towards replay value and AI:TB seems to have that but if the gameplay falls flat then it won't matter...

New Adventure Island, definitely. It's one of my top VC games. The Wiiware one is OK but not anything special. There's just so much charm in the TG-16 one. It's tough as old boots though.

I'd buy New Adventure Island. I haven't played either, but from what I've seen NAI is better.

@SonicKnuckles- Haven't played the new one yet. Though may get it. I really like the Beginning one. Looks to me that NAI mgha some diffences though. One I Read that uusing your weapen causes your life bar to go down, that doesn't seem to happen in AITB(not that I noticed anyway. Also Looked to me me in the picture that there was a rabbit in NAI, I don't remember that being in the other one.

Knucklesonic8- There is no tiger boss tht I've found either (we've finished the game but we still need to get all the melons. Have yet to unlock the extra mode (which was surprising). Can only save one player in the ma8n game so far. We put Wendy's name there. I was able to use MY name on the bonus games and can upload scores online.

Does aiming for scores increase replay value significantly? Is it scores per level?

@KnucklesSonic8-Per level. Dont recall if they have an overall one. also. Topscores for bonus games.

Oh, per level? I assumed it was overall. Per level is good.

I guess I'm waiting for a comment that will get my sold on getting the WiiWare version as I simply can't decide. Some say it's not worth putting time into, and some say they've been playing it like crazy and that the negative feedback should be ignored, basically.

It's also worth noting I've never played an AI game before, and I have no intention of trying the original game.

I can see why you wouldn't want the original game. It's too plain and kinda boring. Adventure Island the beginning is pretty decent but nothing spectacular. The extra abilities you can purchase with melons found in stages adds some replay value. The music is pretty limited. only three different tunes in the entire game I think. Plus the boss of each area is basically the same thing over and over. I still haven't bought new adventure island yet but I hear it's the best one currently out on VC. I wish they would release the NES sequels at some point or maybe the super Adventure Island games.

@Link79- How is this game boring and the other not?

@KnucklesSonic-The boss is NOT the same thing over and over. The first two's bodies looked simular but were differant characters.

Well yeah, the first AI doesn't appeal to me at all but New Adventure Island does. It looks better made, if you know what I mean, plus it's only 600. AI:TB is 800 but it seems justifiable with the online leaderboards and whatnot. And since I'm into beating my own high-scores repeatedly, maybe AI:TB would be better.

So, LTG, what did you wanna say?

@KnucklesSonic- I'll send you AITB, if you like it you can gift me something back for that price sometime. If you DON'T like it, then you don't have to send me anything.

Wow, I wasn't expecting that! That's awfully nice of you. I think I just might take you up on that offer. But yeah, I'll be honest about it and I'll maybe write an opinion about it too. Just be prepared for if I don't like it but we'll see. Lol, next time you wanna do something like this, gift it to my Wii and surprise me.

What classifies it as me not liking it? What if I think it's only... "okay" or "so-so"? Like if I were to review it on a 10-Star Scale, how low would it have to be for me not to give something back?

Yes you can send it to Canada since I'm part of NA. It's very easy. Simply change your Country Settings to Canada and that's all!
