The title for the most part sums up the question at hand. The Eshop prices are grossly overpriced for some of the games currently, for example i can pick up AC3 for $20 while its still full price in the Eshop.

So when do you think when if ever they will come in line.

When digital download becomes the main way people purchase games. Right now people barely purchase retail games on the eShop so their isn't as big of a benefit to changing eShop prices as much as retail.

Well thats a bit of a conundrum as part of the reason people dont purchase digital is due to the high prices, thus the only time its beneficial is fresh release.

Prices are the same or cheaper on eshop, so I don't quite understand what you are complaining about?

They are not , only when games are initially released are they. Eshop prices do not keep up with discounting .

Good example would be i just snagged AC3 for $20 on amazon a few days ago - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00897Z218/ref=twister_B0050...
Eshop has it listed at $40

Ninja Gaiden 3? $30 on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Ninja-Gaiden-Razors-nintendo-wii-u/dp/B...
Ninja Gaiden 3 on the E shop? $60

Here is the biggest discrepancy
Madden 13 on Amazon - $17
http://www.amazon.com/Madden-NFL-13-nintendo-wii-u/dp/B008UR2...
Madden 13 on EShop? $60

Check the Eshop weekly or monthly there will often be some special discount. Nintendo is constantly having promotion and discount. (AC3 had 30% discount and the price was officially drop $39.99 from the original $59.99). Older game such as AC3 will probably have further price drop once the new AC are release on the system.

There often some wicked deals like Super Metroid or F-zero which I picked up for only 30 cent...

You can't really compare eshop price to retail, some retailer will have clearance and sales just to get rid of inventory.

Perhaps its because i am used to Steam but i do kinda expect the same sales and deals.

20% of some games' sales were on the eShop. I don't consider that "barely"

Amazon =/= all retailers. Nintendo is not competing directly with Amazon anyway, so there's no need to lower the prices on the eShop.

Except Steam has a lot of competition on PC gaming, which leads to those sales and deals. Nintendo, however, does not. Companies just don't hand you deals and sales out of simple generosity folks :O

In Norway they are cheaper or same as retail price, I am taking RE : Revelations as an example which is 399 NOK (about £39.9) on eshop and 599 NOK on retail!
I know you may not understand NOK but I hope you understand that it is cheaper on eshop

First off, I'm pretty sure the AC3 price already got cut by $20, and is now $40. And by "I can buy AC3 for $20", you must mean other console versions or must be real lucky guy. I cannot find a retail Wii U AC3 for under $40.

EDIT: And if you mean Amazon, well then. Screw you Amazon users, I hope you enjoy waiting a few days for your game :P

They just did in Europe. Retail first-party Wii U games are 50 € instead of the old 60 €.

I usually get my games on Amazon exactly the day they launch, and even before launch date with overnight shipping. Were you saying Amazon isn't suited for day one?

It's not just Amazon. I bought AC3 for $20 at Best Buy, and Gamestop had it for the same price that week. No such sale occurred on the eshop. Tekken is also $20 at Best Buy, Gamestop, and Amazon, but $55 on the eshop.
