https://twitter.com/Emi1yRogers/status/409904914471469058 as confirmed by Emily Rogers the big update that ties our eshop accounts together, gives 3DS users NNID's (tho still unsure what happens to friend-codes since there won't be friend requests like on wii u... yet), and Miiverse will go live tonight after 9pm pst or 12am est!
After this though what do users here on Nintendolife want to come in future updates, I have a few ideas of my own to share below:
Wii U:
1. Actual accounts that are not "tied" to our systems
2. a join game option
3. cross-game chat -lets face it, it should be there-
4. added multi-tasking (the 3DS can do it with 128MB of RAM and the Wii U has 1GB dedicated to the OS, we should have alot of multi-tasking freedom imo)
3DS
1. Same as #1 above
2. Friend Requests and Messaging, if possible cross-chat to.
there are other things that I want like improved VC releases on both platforms as well as a few nit-picks but what about you? What do you all want to see in future updates?
An account system tied to the cloud and better interaction with other Wii U players will do it for me. The multi-tasking on Wii U sounds pretty on paper but I think they would have to do a lot of testing with it before it's ever implemented (I think we need to wait for the Wii U's successor before we see something like that imo).

alot of testing yes, waiting till the next console to be able to pull off simple multitasking I don't think so seeing as the Wii U's OS isn't that complex to be honest. I'm not asking for PS4/XBONE levels of multitasking. For one it would be nice when someone is Wii U chat calling you, to not have to leave your game, wait for the menu to load, then launch Wii U chat, and get their only to find out your friend has logged out. Then again thats where cross-chat comes to play, now THAT can be done!
Cross-buy for Virtual Console on 3DS and Wii U. Sony has set a precedent for this kind of stuff. I should be able to buy Earthbound off of the Wii U and then download it onto my 3DS.
Oh, I guess they still need more time to figure out SNES emulation on the 3DS. I mean, it's only been like three years.
There should definitely be a cross-buy feature. And, I'm wondering if that's what they're waiting for when it comes to releasing Super Mario Bros. 3. They announced that the game would be coming to both Wii U and 3DS, which is odd that they would even announce that in a Nintendo Direct and is also odd that they're taking to long to do so. I'm thinking that perhaps some sort of future cross-buy implementation may be the cause for that wait and would also explain why SMB3 on VC is a big deal.
I don't think Nintendo has ever said that SNES games would be coming to the 3DS, but considering the fact that the input is perfect for SNES games, it would seem like a waste not to. Plus, SNES games would probably look better on a handheld than on a giant HD television.
I think everything you guys are saying will happen. Maybe not the cloud thing, but pausing your game to take a Wii U Chat call seems VERY plausible, if you ask me.
Same with the shared purchase stuff. Simultaneous VC releases look to be hinting at it, too. Even indie games like Shovel Knight or Edge look like they'd be able to be shared between systems, as long as you have each system.
I wouldn't count this stuff out. Wii U and 3DS are in entirely different territory than the Wii and DS were.
