Topic: Should Nintendo do something like a PS Plus system?

Nintendo has a fairly barebones marketplace on the Wii U meaning a smaller pool of games to map deals onto.
Let's assume there are occasional discounts on the eShop, and likewise occasional discounts on Playstation for non-subscribers.
Then we can look at how the PS+ program might offer a benefit that is distinct. Also I'm not sure how your one year of abysmal experiences has greater merit than the average PS customer who seems to really like the program.

I'm glad you feel the service has value as a built in cost to using the PS4, but I'm not convinced that it offers more value than the same service on PS3. If anything it further confuses the argument by adding a new variable, which is the online fee.

You are what you eat from your head to your feet.

SCRAPPER392

I just think that they could have offered better services for that subscription.

Sony subscriptions:
Music Unlimited
Video Unlimited
AT&T cellular service for PS Vita
PS+
PS Now

They aren't able to offer one subscription that allows access to all their services. There's little to no chance that their investment in offering services can be compensated.

Ya, and you don't get to keep the PS+ games, but you can keep the Xbox Live Gold games.

Even if Xbox Live gives you less games, it's ultimately still a better deal, because you get to keep them.

How many people like having certain features of their console locked behind a subscription? Wii U offers online multiplayer, access to video streaming apps, and discounts on many of their digital games without a subscription. What would be the plus of forcing people to pay for those things? Nintendo would make more money... Wow a company not looking to take every cent you have, how evil they must be (sarcasm)

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

No its not because a lot of the games offered went for $5-$10 and were both old games and most people owned them by the time they were offered example Halo 3, Crackdown, AC2 and Fable 3 the rest of the games are pretty bad, if you like mediocrity then I suppose those deals are great.

I don't own a PS4 but I'm pretty sure you don't need PS+ to access video streaming services like Netflix and Hulu plus etc you only need it for online.
Edit: Also Sony have sales that do not require PS+ so I'm not understanding your last point.

Think of this way, after you finish your physical copy games then you can trade it in for new game right? Well I hate to tell you but Playstation Plus offer better deal than trading down games. I'm just saying.

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

Nintendo doesn't have enough games on the Wii U to do a service like PS+ or Games for Gold. its the sad truth but these services are built upon the back on how much you want to give it too the the third party publishers and the Wii Us first party content would be dry in a few months.

I don't have experience with Sony either but all that applies to Micosoft's subscription. I can see the benefits behind PS+ but the fact is that I don't want to miss out on any system features because I don't pay a subscription. I payed for Xbox Live for over 9 years and Microsoft kept adding apps I, as a gamer, wasn't interested in. Why should I be paying for ESPN when I don't want it? So any subscription service I am against

It depends on what you call mediocre. That's opinion, and you can't judge off of that. You still can't keep PS+ games, which means they aren't free.

You don't have to pay for discounts. They inevitably happen, which is a flaw in how that subscription works.

You think PS+ is great. I don't. Who gives a damn? If you love it so much, then go buy a PS4, and stop expecting Nintendo to follow suit with an arguably questionable service.

Agree, and selling first-party games at a heavy discount, well that would leave Nintendo high and "dry" (to borrow the analogy).

@SCAR392 I'm sorry why do I need to buy a PS4 and also I only commentated that I would be interested in Nintendo doing a similar service as PS+ not that I was "expecting Nintendo to follow suit" and if PS+ is questionable then so is Netflix and even buying games off the E-shop seeing as if your console breaks you might not be able to play your games again something that isn't a problem with PS+.

We're talking about subscriptions, not account systems.

I don't even care about Netflix. PS Now is basically what you're asking for, to rent games, so there you go.

I'm saying that if you think PS+ is the model subscription based service, then it would presumably be enough to not expect it from anywhere else.

So you want a subscription service on Wii U. That's fine, but PS+ arguably isn't the ideal subscription model that Nintendo should striving for, so no, they shouldn't have a subscription service like PS+.

That doesn't rule out a subscription service, but it does rule out that the said subscription service should be similar to PS+.

I don't know a single person who has paid for PS+ on PS3 and regret it... Even ask Microsoft fanboys if they wouldn't prefer to get the games offered in PS+ even if they couldn't keep them without a subscription, some would defend microsoft model out of fanboyism but most would accept they'll take a 40 dollar game for one year over a 4 dollar one permanently...... PS4 may be a different story as I said... but yah PS+ as it is on PS3 and Vita is the ideal subscription model... Nintendo does not have enough games for the system to work (3DS have lots of games but still less than PS3 and even Sony has trouble coming up with games for the Vita which does have more games than Wii U) but if they could offer something like PS+ I don't see how could anyone complain.......

People who want a guarantee they'll still own their own games. AKA the people complaining about the lack of a unified account for Nintendo.

I actually think PS+ is awesome for what it was but don't act like even this is some flawless thing for everyone ever.
