I don't think I've seen this reported yet but it's interesting news. Browsing Neogaf I found a thread suggesting that Nintendo's Russian division was set to increase eShop prices as of February 12, 2015. Based on my own knowledge, Wind Waker HD was previously 2429 rubles (33.66 euro); now it's 4499 (62.35 euro).

This is likely due to the value of the ruble taking a dive this year after a steady decrease in years prior, and while this doesn't have any immediate ramifications for regions outside of Russia, the news suggests that Nintendo isn't afraid to hike up prices if the economy suffers. Another theory people have suggested is that prices were purposely raised after customers outside of Russia were switching regions to get cheaper games (and boy were they cheap) — it's likely a combination of factors, but the Russian economy has to have been the bigger story in all of this.

No, I think people switching regions seems like a much more plausible reason...this is the same reason keeps Region Locking around, remember?

Didn't Steam do something similar a while ago?

Steam and some other services banned users from outside of Russia using Russian steam keys, due to Russia's collapsed economy.
